2012 Speedhunters Awards: <br /> Show Demo Car Of The Year

For the next voting category in the 2012 Speedhunters Awards, we have Show Demo Car of the Year. This category is for cars that wowed at big shows like SEMA and Tokyo Auto Salon as well as those machines owned and built by shops, brands or tuning companies to show the world what they are capable of. From wild supercars and revamped classics to traditional Japanese tuner cars, the choice won’t be easy

Take a look through the nominees and make your vote below.

LB Works Murcielago

Love it or hate it, the LB Works Murcielago was one of the most talked about cars at the 2012 SEMA Show and Sean’s subsequent full feature on it brought about a huge response.

Bee Dragon Crown Athlete

Bringing some wild VIP attitude to the list is the Bee Dragon Toyota Crown Athlete and its over the top styling.

Supermade Silvia

Rolling on its unique 15″ wheel and tire combination, the Supermade S15 makes for a fresh take on the ultra-popular Nissan S-chassis.

Supermade Aristo

Like the Silvia, Supermade also gave us a rather unique Toyota Aristo with a nice mix of both VIP and drift car elements.

The RTR Spec 3 Mustang

Seen at SEMA, the latest in the RTR line takes the modern Mustang and injects with it hint of retro style with its over fenders and HRE mesh wheels.

Rocket Bunny FR-S

The Rocket Bunny FR-S doesn’t need much introduction. It’s simply one of the most popular feature cars of the year and a symbol of Kei Miura’s global domination in 2012.

Pro Stock Racing R32 GT-R

For the classic JDM Time Attack machine, look no further than Pro Stock Racing’s R32 Skyline GT-R.

The Mach 40

What do you get when you mix a modern Ford GT with vintage Mach 1 Mustang? You get Eckert’s Rod and Custom’s Mach 40, another star from the 2012 SEMA Show.

Creations ‘n Chrome Fox Body Mustang

Another highlight from SEMA is the mental Fox Body Mustang project from Creations ‘n Chrome. It’s by far one of the most extreme versions of the popular Fox Mustang platform we’ve ever seen.

ForPly Plymouth

Rounding out the selection of SEMA cars, we have the ’64 Plymouth with the guts of a modern NASCAR known as “ForPly”.

Liberty Walk F40

If the LB Murcielago was a bit too much for you, perhaps the slightly more restrained Liberty Walk Ferrari F40 is more up your alley?

Creations ‘n Chrome Boy Racer Mustang

In addition to the Fox Body seen at SEMA, Creations ‘n Chrome also brings us the fittingly-maned Boy Racer Mustang with its aggressive style and supercharged powerplant.

BenSopra GT-R

With a rear wheel drive conversion and its trademark aero kit, the BenSopra GT-R will go down as another one of the unforgettable cars of 2012.

AVO BRZ

The combination of the Subaru BRZ and a bit of forced induction proves to work quite well, as demonstrated by AVO’s BRZ demo car.

ARMS S15 Silvia

Lastly, we have the ARMS S15 Silvia as another example of just what the venerable S-chassis can be capable of in terms of circuit performance.

I'm not hating, cause I think it's a great looking car, but why does the Rocket Bunny FRS get so many votes? It's a bodykit and wheels. The Mach 40 Mustang has so much engineering in it...

Basically, in case you haven't noticed, SH is a trend-follower site. An example is the Rocket Bunny kit (which is impressive, but got so much coverage because IT IS THE VERY FIRST bodykit for the FR-S). I'm not taking ANYTHING away from Miura san and what he created, but if many other Japanese shop came out with other body kits for the FR-S AT THE SAME TIME that Miura san released his, his kit wouldn't have been so hyped, garantee!
Speedhunters collects data from us and releases games for all you suckers. As simple as that.

was tough till i got to the pro-stock R32. The F40 would have been a good choice too but the weird way he did the ducting on the nose section bothered me (filled the stock ducts, left the ducting into the interior, then added a new duct and just left it? why? is it not warm very often in japan?)

people vote for what they like hype has nothing to do with it let's not over complicate a simple poll like this folks, it's not a competition so idk why people read into it sooo much.

Such a hard decision but it has to be the Pro Stock Racing R32 GT-R for me since i'm building something similar.

@DRIFTUA No, just no.

67

R32 GT-R mainly because that was the first car I ever loved.

68

I chose the Pro-Stock R32 because it was a car that stayed around in my heart when others came and went, but I believe the most influential car was of course the Rocket Bunny FR-S

69

Pro Stock R32 is the most influential cars which is why i am voting it. However, some of the other cars like BenSopra and Mach40 are also amazing to ride!!

70

R32 is my all time favorite especially when it heavily modiifed with stock appearance

71

@JDMized The car which was on display at Essen was a customer car. Not a company owned demo car.

72

@JDMized It's a Demo car.

73

@JDMized We are definitely interested in trends it's true. But we also a focused on history and cultural lineage, the goal being to understand how trends work, where they come from and where they are going. The popularity of the ZN6 if something which was easily predicted many years ago!

I think the cred of the TRA Kyoto 6666 brand which has been building for a while now, is also a big factory behind the popularity of his kit. It's not only that it's one of the first big visual mods for the ZN6 it's also the link back to the S Chassis builds previously and all that the "Rocket Bunny" name has come to mean in the past 2-3 years.

The design of the product itself is also great. It's a fresh vision for "body-kit" which steps away from 1990s lineage design.

75

@ToyotaPR I do quite like that Aristo though. Little less camber and it'd be right up my street.

76

Every time I see cars like these with -30 degree cambered wheels and tires that rub on the fenders sitting still, my faith in the future automotive community dies a little. When will these horrible-looking and horrible-performing fads end? You're taking motorsports-bred cars and ruining them. Anybody who picked the Crown or Aristo over these other proper performance cars ought to be shot on sight to stop them from bastardizing a perfectly good car.

The R32 is a fantastic car, but I prefer a little more exterior modification to go with the interior and guts.
The ARMS S15 is right up that alley, but the more I look at that motorsports-pedigree, the more I like it.
It's a racing car with a restomod skin, one of my favorite types of cars out there.

77

Now that I've voted...good Lord.
With everybody in the comments saying R32R32R32R32, I thought it would be dominating.
The F40 is cool, but I can't believe that FR-S is winning.
Horrible body kit, stock microscopic brakes, a massive wing and diffuser for a relatively weak stock motor car (I can't imagine how much that thing understeers at speed), and a ride height that you could scrape the car with while running over a road reflector.
A terrible car that redefines "rice".

78

*motorsports-pedigree Plymouth, sorry.

79

The TRA car is promotional device for the kit. The company uses modern tech and pushed aero development/manufacturing to levels that import tuning in JAPAN isn't totally used to yet (using CAD and CNC ) So i applaud that because japan's import tuning is still stuck in the late 90's early 2000's and what TRA is doing is revolutionary over there.....BUT to consider this car the demo car of the year.... that's just internet faboy-hypism. the car ISNT a total package....the CAR isnt anything but an FT86 clad in a costume....a nifty costume i gotta say, BUT a shops demo car needs to be a total package to win. its only got aesthetics.....this shows how the population thinks.....YES 1098810830123 cars used it because its the most aggressive kit available to the public out there....but guess who ISN'T on here. EVASIVE and im not even much of a fan of theirs but they build an original wide-body, put the car on the track, time attacked it and got base lines for their development of the program they seem to have really pushed the demo car to all angles........anyways this kinda stuff lets me down.

80

@RearSlip This is why we put a massive range of car onto the list... But it's up to the audience to decide what car they think should win.

81

How is an FR-S beating an F40 right now? It's a stock FR-S with a (really nice) body kit and wheels. Hardly the whole package.

82

the F40....SIMPLE!

83

@PerfectStance I'm going against what I would probably have voted for, and voted the FR-S this time around.

84

@vsMARTINO We might have to fight!

85

Where is the GT-9? Vote is Broken.

86

the poor f40 :( why would you ruin it like that !!!

87

si deberian dejarlos con su color y carroceria original

88

@Corey K you might need to start a vote campaign :)

89

I want them all!

90

The "Bee Dragon Crown Athlete" isn't in the vote list!

91

supermade silvia, cant fault a 15 that has 15" equips

92

supermade silvia!
cant fault a 15 with instant gentleman kit and 15" equips

93

I love love love that crimson BNR32. Really, my definite favourite of the cars here.
But as far as demo cars ago, I'm going to have to go for the BenSopra R35. Its a new company doing big things, and its been important for both them and the R35 aftermarket (aero) as a whole.

94

Does SH sell the data collected from these polls? Data collection is huge business nowadays so I wouldn't doubt it in the least. I think people should know though.

97

I can't believe that FR-S is taking it, it's nice but it's really just a car with some fancy aero and nothing else.
