Top Secret’s Long-Nose GT-R

Stepping into the main display paddock during last weekend’s R’s Meeting at Fuji Speedway, there was one car that stood out more than even the trio of Nismo demo machines in front of it – a 2017 GT-R from Top Secret.

I was beginning to think that Kazuhiko ‘Smoky’ Nagata had ignored the face-lifted R35 that was released last April, but 2016 was a busy year for the legendary tuner and lover of burnouts.

One project in particular would have consumed a fair amount of time, and that’s the crazy VR38-swapped BNR32 Skyline GT-R he showed us at the Nismo Festival last December. It’s actually in the image above, behind the new orange R35.

But finally attention has been turned to the Tamura-san-directed GT-R, and as has always been the case with Top Secret’s san-go projects, the first order of business was the exterior where the car now wears a completely redesigned bumper and grille section.

Elegantly executed, this custom touch has visibly elongated the nose while drastically changing up the whole presence of the car. And like all recent demo machines from the Chiba-based tuner, the R35 sits on OZ Racing wheels, in this instance Superforgiatas from the OZ Atelier Forged line with special Top Secret detailing added.

I think we can consider this an initial step with a lot more to follow, because if there’s one thing we can say about Smoky, it’s that he never disappoints with his demo cars.

You can expect to see a further evolved version of this car at the Tokyo Auto Salon early next year, but Top Secret has definitely got a big job on its hands if it wants to go one-up on the VR38 R32 GT-R.

Trust Smoky!

So beautiful... doesn't even look out of proportion or anything!

4

I've got to be honest...that front bumper looks MILES better than the OEM version, and looks like it actually could have been an OEM piece. Not often you can say that about an aftermarket bumper.

That's actually a very good point. I fact while looking at it I was impressed by the fit and finish, could definitely be an OEM option. FRP/carbon production from tuners has come a long way from the days where stuff didn't fit, had panel gaps you could live in and was painted so poorly you could chip the paint by farting close to it

6

I love it, kinda reminds me of the Nissan Vision 2020 Gran Turismo Concept.

7

That color fits perfectly with the R35

8

I swear that's the color of the original concept 350z

Finally. I've always been of the opinion that the front end of the R35 was a weak aesthetic point for most model years. This looks great. No surprise that Smokey did it.

God please, Nissan do not take the triangle gash out of the headlights on the R36.

this is perfect!

12

Smokey appears a couple times in the above images.
Can you spot him?
Where's Smokey????

13

Kneeling in front of the bumper, pretty easy to spot :P

He was farting on the paint. Quality assurance.

Ignore the pic my bad

The front end and headlight lines really capture the top secret style. It's reminiscent of the top secret v12 supra' front end, i like that.

20

Love that burnt-orange paint!

21

Dino, can you, if there isn't already one, do a feature on that white BNR32 next to it!!! looks epic.. Cheers!

TheChickenwing100 .

there is one! its linked in the second paragraph

23

I wonder does the 3k bumper comes with the carbon bits and faux side grill/vent?

24

Seeing this post about Top Secret only made me think about the time when Smokey went to the UK and did a burnout on the freeway right before doing a near 200mph run in his Supra.

25

Does Smoky still owns the gold cba?or he sold it?definitely looking forward to seeing this at tas next year!

What if he reverse resto-modded and went for an RB series engine?
