I rely on my head for most things, with my heart taking care of everything else. It’s in there that I cherish the relationships I have. In my life I’ve always leant to the artistic side, and although that sounds like I’m trying to be mark myself out as a creative it actually means I’ve [...]

Big engines and big cars are kind of obvious huh? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good V8 and have owned more than a few. An Audi R8 with that V10 sat behind my head? All day, every day my friend. Yet if I’m honest I think my ego gets in the way sometimes. [...]

Go to the Nürburgring for a track day? As it’s one of the most challenging, dangerous, thrilling and addictive tracks in the world, how could I resist the opportunity? I think if I had passed up this chance, my Speedhunters status would have been unquestionably revoked. I would have hung up my car keys and retreated quietly to [...]

It’s a fact I’ve never really been a fan of drag racing. Hang on though and stick with me, because I am now – and I hope that you will be too after reading this. Drag racing is not something I’ve just discovered either: I’ve been regularly visiting dragstrips for over 15 years. From Santa [...]

It’s not often I get stopped in my tracks. I’ve been a lucky boy over the years and have seen a lot of different things around the globe. I’m not jaded or tired of it, no, but usually I can take in the details with relative calm. Not today though. What you see above is [...]

In your head will be the perfect workspace. It might be buried under a pile of magazine articles or lost in the middle of project plans that have yet to come to fruition, but it’s there. For some it will be clinically clean: tiled floors, tools aligned in unison waiting for usage. Others may crave [...]

1980s Week on Speedhunters has been a stark reminder about one of my own personal cars from that era. When I look at my 1989 Volvo 245 estate, I wonder what it could have been by now if I’d have realised that it was a proper project car and not just a bit of fun. [...]

I’m like a kid in a candy store at most any car show I go to, but Autosport is one of those general interest shows which has me pinging back and forth across the spider’s web of my automotive interest. Here are some of the cars which made me stop, drop and drool. First up [...]

Maybe it’s because I have a low boredom threshold, but I can’t seem to get enough of that good car stuff we all love. Which is why sometimes I don’t ‘get’ the car scene. It’s been an interesting nine months of coming to understand what a Speedhunter is. The other new guys have discussed it [...]

There are plenty of different ways I could do this, but as some of my fellow new Speedhunters have opened with a discussion about how amazing it is here, a point on which we all agree, I’ll move on. As part of my year end indulgences I’m going to discuss the breadth of car [...]

I believe the BAC Mono is what people call a game changer. It certainly is for me. Because what you’re looking at it is very much a road car. A wonderfully focused, exquisitely engineered and executed road car. For one person (at a time) to enjoy. Underneath that bespoke centre exit exhaust, mounted on one [...]

You know what really gets to me when people refer to the MX5/Miata/Eunos? That they’re just a bit of fun and they have a bad image, I say it through gritted teeth, but the word ‘hairdresser’ seems to come up a lot. These tired cliches may have been the general consensus 15yrs ago, but times [...]

Roughly ten years ago I had an accountant who called me in to his office and asked, did I know how much money I spent on cars each year? I told him yes (which was quite clearly a lie) and he informed me rather incredulously that I could run a brand new (E46 at the [...]

I felt like banging my head against a wall when I first saw Dean Meeson’s Lotus Esprit, that was at the Retro-Rides Gathering back in August. I’d known of it’s recent completion having seen the car on a forum thread, but as we all know the real world is so much better. So why was [...]

I’ve long been of the opinion that if I was pushed in to buying one standard car to use for everything, that it would be an Audi. An RS4 Avant to be precise, a car that is good in all weathers, I can carry most anything I need, tow something with it, do a track day and sleep in it. These are just some of things that I need my cars to be able to do for me. That’s no small admission given what I do for a job either, but yes, I think an Audi would fit the bill. I’ve never owned one though, limit myself to just one car? Are you insane?
