What We’ve Been Watching

A new week of Speedhunting is about to kick off, but before that happens it’s time to take a quick look at some of the videos we’ve been watching over the past seven days.

And first up it’s some amazing racing action from the GRRC’s Weslake Cup…

Given the rarity and value of many classic race cars, it’s a given that some owner-drivers dial things back so as to lessen the chances of damaging or destroying their motorsport machinery of a bygone era. Of course, not everyone subscribes to this school of thought though, case in point – Austin Healey Sebring Sprite driver Richard Woolmer’s dogfight battle with Lenham Sprite GT driver James Colburn at the recent GRRC 75th Members Meeting.

Throughout Porsche’s long history, more than a few models have had a big impact on the performance motoring landscape of their era. Porsche: Decades of Disruption is a new documentary from the German automaker that takes a look at some of these special cars from the past, and also delves into what we might see in the future.

Late last month, Louis made a quick trip up to Willow Springs International Raceway to check out the 2017 running of Honeywell Garrett’s Boost Festival. With three tracks running in unison and drivers from all over the country on hand in their boost-fed automotive hardware, there was a lot going on – something reflected in this official highlights video.

Finally this week, it’s a very cool Speedhunters-themed collaborative video by Crowned and JvyPennant captured inside Need for Speed. Not only are their respective Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Nissan Skyline GT-R builds nicely done, but the cinematic-style clip itself is very impressive. Hit 2160p 4K for full effect!

That’s all for now, but as always, if you’ve watched a cool automotive-related video this week, don’t forget to share it with us in the comments section below.

That Weslake dogfight is the single most entertaining piece of racing I have seen in a long time.
This one race between two drivers had more excitement then the entire F1 season has to offer.
Beautiful, pure racing!

I've only just seen this, love the racing too! Rich Woolmer has plans to build a drift sprite with a rotary, which would be hilarious...of course I'm doing everything possible to encourage this silly idea!

It's a few years old, but this popped up in my YT recommends recently. It's a documentary on Japan's drift scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZjpFYlYdw8

That doc on Porsche is amazing and undoubtedly, so are Porsches, and by that I mean every single one they ever produced. HOWEVER, I still do feel like they kept throwing the terms "best ever" and "first ever" around a liiiittle too loosely, given there are brands such as Ferrari or Alfa Romeo around...maybe Porsche has a different significance in the USA than it does in Europe. Don't mean to take credit away from their great cars, but they were not the first and the best at everything, simple as that.
