I’m so glad I decided to go to the Hobby Garage in Kuki the other day. Had I not, I don’t think I would have ever understood what “custom” really means to RC car enthusiasts in Japan. If you thought what you saw in yesterday’s post was impressive, well all I can say is scroll [...]
In yesterday’s post I tried to give you guys a sense of the madness and sensory overload that was the 2013 M&L Party. Today I’d like to continue with some additional scenes and observations from this late night extravaganza on the Osaka harbor front. Because I had spent the entire day beforehand shooting at Osaka [...]
Moving swiftly along with the Battle Evome coverage from Sunday, I’ve put together a quick spotlight-o-rama of five vehicles that really stood out in the paddock. Now I know there are a lot of other cars you probably wanted to see, but I guess I will have to keep those for future events. To get [...]
For my last post on the Premium Day, I will be concentrating on some more tuner cars I came across on the paddock as well as checking out some of the entrants that participated in the Option Magazine organized Super Lap time attack session. I’m going to kick things off with this Yashio Factory candy green [...]
Much like Mike Garrett, I too recently spent a day in Japan that I wished would never end. For many of us, there is a tiny circuit just north of Tokyo which is more famous than any large GP circuit on the planet. This track is of course the birth place of time attack as [...]
It may be off season for the motorsport world, but the cold winter months in Japan certainly don’t mean there is a shortage of interesting events to head to. In fact you guys are actually quite lucky because Mike is still here in Japan and spent his day at the JCCA New Year meeting in [...]
As I touched on during yesterday’s post , being at an MSC event is an many ways like stepping into a time machine and traveling back to the era when drifting was defined by what happened on the streets and small circuits of Japan. A lot has changed since then, even here in Japan, but [...]
Everything is so fast paced at a Battle Evome meet, there is literally no time to waste. With only two hours of shooting time available, you will just about manage to hit every major trackside spot, provided you keep moving. So with a few more moments available before the drivers went out on track for [...]
Tsukuba Circuit. The modest race track located in the countryside of Ibaraki Perfecture outside of Tokyo is a place of legend. All across the world Tsukuba is known as the proving ground for Japan’s tuners and as the birthplace of Time Attack. Besides all of the history that’s been made at the track, Tsukuba has [...]
It was a tough choice, but seeing Sean, Mike and I had already spent two full days walking the halls of the Makuhari Messe, we decided to spread out the other Sunday and hit some other events to maximize our JDM coverage. So while Mike headed off to Yokohama to cover the Mania Cruise, Sean [...]
Satomi Nakawatase’s S14 is unlike any Silvia you have ever seen before. The car has evolved over the last couple of years from an interesting military themed project into something that words can literally not describe. The last time I saw it, Satomi had replaced the side glass with metal sheets and made a removable tank-like cover for the windscreen. What really makes this ichi-yon special however is that it’s driven and drifted on a regular basis, not just a bizarre creation to wow people at shows. To find out more hit play and watch this film put together by Luke Huxham…
To mix things up a little for our Tokyo Auto Salon coverage we thought we’d combine up a few of our spotlights together and bring you a spotlight-o-rama post from myself, Mike and Sean. We all chose two cars that stood out to us as we walked the halls of the Makuhari Messe for two [...]
After a somewhat disappointing event last year, spoiled by snow, rain and a track that didn’t want to dry, the Tsukuba Super Battle couldn’t have been blessed with better conditions today at Tsukuba. Freezing air and cloudless blue skies are always the perfect recipe for optimal time attack conditions, and the 78 cars in attendance [...]
It was an easy pick to go with this crazy military-themed S14 zenki from Hayashi Auto Service to start off this spotlight-o-rama from Slammed Society. This wild ride has really made the rounds on the interweb and was one of the most popular cars at the event. Aside from the slammed stance the car sports [...]
I’m going to move swiftly along with another look at some of the cars of Slammed Society Japan, and trust me there is so much to see I could post images from the show for the rest of October! While Japanese cars obviously make up the majority of the vehicles present, there are always some [...]
