Following up on Dino’s excellent feature of the brand new Team RS-R V8 86, it was clear that the build and the story truly engaged you Speedhunters readers. Going over the comments, many of you seemed to really appreciate the ingenuity and the creativity demonstrated by RS-R, and to others the car is “just another [...]
When faced with the need to stand out, a true challenge in any forms of motorsports, it’s pretty safe to say that RS-R have taken the correct path. With a need to replace their successful, yet ageing JZA80 Supra, for this year’s Formula D Asia championship, they ended up doing things a little differently. It [...]
It’s been a while since we’ve posted some unmistakably JDM-type videos. We happen to come across this little production highlighting the recent time attack trial of the “Bandoh Carbon Junkie ADVAN 86″ which back in December competed in the Rev Speed Super Battle. With Manabu Orido behind the wheel, the lightweight ZN6 became the fastest 86 to lap Tsukuba with an impressive 59.728. But according to Orido it’s got a lot more potential. Anyway, take a look for yourselves and check out the car in detail as well as the on-board of the record lap…
Events like the Premium Day are where you can really get lost in the details. There is so much hot metal around that you can literally waste the whole day looking over your favorite cars without a care in the world for what is happening out on track. It’s very difficult to pull yourself away [...]
I am going to move along with the coverage from the Tsukuba Super Battle now with one final round up of pictures highlighting the day’s action. You will see some new cars that I haven’t touched on yet, as well as some we have seen already and that I couldn’t resist reposting more pix of, [...]
After a somewhat disappointing event last year, spoiled by snow, rain and a track that didn’t want to dry, the Tsukuba Super Battle couldn’t have been blessed with better conditions today at Tsukuba. Freezing air and cloudless blue skies are always the perfect recipe for optimal time attack conditions, and the 78 cars in attendance [...]
The Mustang crash at FD Pro Am in Las Vegas wasn’t the only scary drifting accident over the weekend. Over in Japan at Ebisu Circuit during D1GP round five, Manabu Orido put his V8-powered Toyota 86 into the tire wall in another big drifting crash. Now the crash itself isn’t near as frightening as the flipping Mustang, but what’s amazing is how close the car gets to the trackside cameraman. Mere inches it seems!
Thanks to quick reflexes no one was hurt, but certainly a scary moment indeed.
You’ve seen Manabu Orido’s D1 Toyota 86 in detail and even heard it rip around Mobara Circuit, so the only thing missing was a Desktop of the car in action.Enjoy! Feature on Orido’s 2UR-powered D1 86 Video behind the scenes of Orido’s 86 shakedown test Manabu Orido’s official website D1 2012 coverage on Speedhunters [...]
After seeing the video of Manabu Orido cranking his 2UR-powered D1 86 into life last week, I noticed that the D1-judge-turned-driver also announced he would be heading to Mobara for the car’s first shakedown test. As soon as I saw the post on his Facebook page I was on the phone in a second asking [...]
If you were following our Facebook page today you might have seen a few shots of a rather crazy new D1 machine. I met up with Manabu Orido and his crew today at Mobara Circuit to check out the shakedown of the 2UR-GSE-powered Toyota 86 which he will be driving in D1-GP this year. Takemura-san [...]

One of the prime movers in GT300 (and the reigning champions in the class), we haven't seen a whole lot in terms of results from Racing Project Bandoh drivers Manabu Orido and Tatsuya Kataoka of late, their only major points-haul coming at the opening round of the season when the pair took third. Typically the [...]
I don't think there is race series that Manabu "Max" Orido hasn't tried his hand at. The latest addition to his resume is driving a factory-backed Chevrolet Lacetti in the FIA World Touring Car Championship. In stock form the Daewoo-based Lacetti is not high on the the "desired" cars list and in fact it is [...]
