Stance Magic: Wekfest Japan 2024

Nagoya at the beginning of May can only mean one thing in the Speedhunting world – Wekfest Japan.

Since its introduction in Japan, Wekfest has best represented the latest styling trends in real-world Japanese car culture, with a heavy bias to stance.

The show has become the place for many car builders to debut their latest projects, and because of this, the assortment is always fresh.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_038

Sure, there are always previously-seen builds, but often these cars have been updated with new modifications or refined and perfected.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_090
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_006

But there is so much new stuff that it is almost overwhelming.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_037

Here’s a good example. Car Shop Glow showed off this ultra-wide Super GT race car for the street, complete with a highly modified engine and sequential transmission.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_115

As I always do with big shows, I’ve gone photo-heavy with my Wekfest Japan 2024 coverage. I had to though; there was just so much to see.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_118
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_121

That included a 25-car-strong showing from Moontech.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_082

They brought out the Live To Offend BMW E36 build along with…

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_083

…a GT3 R35 Nissan GT-R and this well-known BCNR33 Skyline GT-R sporting Air Lift Performance suspension and new RAYS Volk Racing 21Cs with bronze centers.

Not too far away, I found the Trust BNR34 Skyline GT-R on bronze-centered Volk Racing 21As.

It was JDM overload – in the best possible way.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_017
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_016

The best thing about Wekfest Japan is the variety.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_018

You have it all, VIP to kyusha, imports and SUVs, gems from the ’80s and ’90s, modified Hondas, ridiculously powerful GT-Rs, drift cars and more.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_019
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_020

Everything at Wekfest is brought together by stance – unless you are going off-roading.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_025
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_059

I have tried to bring some order to my coverage so you have a better understanding of the selections on display at the Port Messe Nagoya venue.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_067
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_068

Like the VW component.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_035
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_053
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_057

There was so much to see from the ’90s and early 2000s JDM golden era.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_050

There should be plenty to inspire you.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_069

Especially for the Honda fans.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_071
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_074

Saying the selection was vast would be an understatement.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_070

And on top of some older stuff…

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_065
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_058

…there was an overload of DC2s and EGs of every body type.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_062
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_075

I love how people continuously innovate and try to bring new looks that may not have been tried in Japan before.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_079

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_078

Most sub-cultures were represented, including a couple of killer VIP builds. Doesn’t this Crown Athlete remind you of a Bee Dragon build?

While brands like Liberty Walk strive to create the most visually aggressive cars…

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_094

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_095

…you have to love more simple takes, too. Custom-built BBS wheels are the go-to choice for many of the cars in this 964 lineup.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_126

But over at Madlane, there was something else attracting attention. Well, several things.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_097
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_100

First, their new white-on-white 964, which features Madlane’s own wheel design. While the interior has been half-stripped and treated to a seat upgrade, the exterior is OEM+ at its best. In this case, the ‘+’ refers to the RS front bumper intakes, the only alteration.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_096

Secondly, they had their drool-worthy Ferrari 512TR at the show. But it was Madlane’s other 911 build that brought the crowds in.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_111
wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_106

Riding on center-lock BBS race wheels, the exterior of this 930 Turbo flatnose is pretty untouched. It’s the interior that Madlane has gone to town on.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_103

Just eight Tommykaira M19s were ever built, so it was amazing to see two of them together.

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_005

TE37s on a Lancia Delta Integrale? Yes please!

wekfest24_dino_dalle_carbonare_113

The Low Brain E46 M3 was looking sharp on a set of TE37 Sagas.

I hope this gallery post has given you a good taste of what Wekfest Japan 2024 was all about. Let us know of any cars from the show that you’d like to see featured in the future.
