When Charles asked for each us to select one famous AE86 and post about for 86 Day, it was a tough choice. After a little thought, I went with the somewhat fanboyish choice of Keiichi Tsuchiya's TRD-tuned Trueno. The car has been featured in countless Best Motoring and Hot Version videos, but one of my favorite clips is this one – where Dorikin battles Akira Iida who's behind the wheel of a lightly tuned EK9 CIvic Type R.

Enjoy this brilliant, naturally aspirated battle between Honda and Toyota.

Considering the power difference, it makes you wonder how light these AE86s are!

And Keiichi Tsuchiya is an excellent driver, much better in fact than most of the guest drivers on the videos. The Civic driver kept hitting the curbing very hard at the exit of the chicane of turns 2 and 3. He did it even worse on the second lap and actually lifted both rear tires off the ground. Add to it that the AE86 Corolla is pretty light to begin with and Keiichi's is even lighter and the much heavier EK9 had not chance.

classic.... I wish I coulda had a better view of the overtake

4

ive watched this video a thousand times and it never gets old!!!

5

it's not only down to weight...the civic is FWD, while 86 is RWD. it shows.

6

The Civic had more HP but the Corolla had a way wider and more powerful torque curve. This is a huge advantage coming out of tighter, lower-rev corners. Obviously Dori-dorikun is just a incredible driver to top it off!

7

is that a blacktop?

8

I just love the fact that they are both having so much fun out on the track.

9

I love this vid I just wish it would have been a EF9 civic OR EA civic racing the 86 in this vid now that would have been crazy.

Great vid,who wouldn't want to have that great a time in any car.
