Event>> Tuning Powers 2010 – Pt.3

It's time to conclude the coverage of the 2010 Tuning Powers, a show that despite its reduced size, still managed to pack so much tuning goodness into one place. Take the Impreza in the above opening shot, looks ordinary enough, but until you take a closer look you won't actually notice it's been widened both at the front and rear to replicate the lines of the limited edition coupe-only 22B!

This is a car from an era when Subaru still hadn't acted upon its masochistic tendencies when it comes to design and still created unique looking performance cars that to this day are very much revered. The interior has been kept simple with a Recaro driver's seat and a few Defi gauges and modules.

The Trust TD06-20G is the turbine of choice and is mated to a 2.2L stroked and bored EJ20 which at 1.3 bar of boost can crank out 400 HP at 6,000 rpm.

The rear widening, seamlessly integrated into the rear fenders and doors, only becomes evident when looked at from certain angles. A great looking, and subtly modified Scooby.

What on earth is this then?? Yep, it's drift kei-truck…

…modified to take advantage of its light rear end and tackle corners completely sideways. Not often you see full bucket seats in these things! There is usually an aged farmer inside, smoking a Mild Seven and driving along at 15 mph!

To make sure there is enough power to hang the tail out the little 660 cc K6A motor has been fitted with a bigger turbo and a side-mounted intercooler set-up!

Piping might be on the long side but notice the air intake that scoops air towards the cooler's core. With 100 HP on tap this is one high-performance kei-machine!

Side exit exhaust and Shadow Spoke wheels complete the look. Only in Japan!

I quite liked this Suzuki Every kei-van sitting low on its black 14-inch SSR TypeCs. The engine has been tuned to deliver a mighty 150 HP punch thanks to a 720 cc stroked engine.

Spotted this rare Porsche-built W124 500E…

…which was fitted with an insanely powerful Brembo braking system, 8-pots up front and 4-pots at the back as used on modern AMG cars. The stroked M119 6L V8 under the hood is good for 410 HP.

Check out the drag stance on this Speed House Alfa MA-70 Supra.

Nothing has been left untouched in the engine bay and the 7M-GTE sports a custom bottom end and a Garrett GT4088R turbine, which is run at 2 bar of boost. They are not even sure how much power it develops but judging from the 8.8 sec best time at the strip it has got to be rather substantial!

It all looks very serious inside.

I think it's an unwritten rule that rubber residue from burnouts should not be cleaned from cars!

This BNR34 from Rising was getting a lot of attention throughout the show…

…with everyone checking out the 3.1L RB26…

…and the beautiful titanium piping. Like everyone I found myself fondling the welds! Ohhh

It's not often you see spoiler-less R34's. Not too crazy on the wheel choice personally.

There were quite a lot of GT-Rs to feast one's eyes on, but not even one R35!

A purposeful looking engine bay courtesy of Initial.

This grip-oriented BNR32 weighs in at 1,300 kg, and with 500 HP on tap gives it a pretty lethal power-to-weight ratio.

Narrow body GTS-4…

…with a 600 HP RB26!

Something different! Not often you see Honda's at otaku tuning shows like this, and especially not a CR-X del sol!

That is a 2L stroked B18 from the Integra Type-R!

Menacing rear end with 90's style Supra-like spoiler.

This is the ultimate MarkII sleeper! Stock looking body and wheels, automatic transmission…

…and an 800 HP 2JZ under the hood, good for 9.4 sec passes!

My favorite GT-R of the show. Very clean exterior with silver BNR34 stock BBS-Japan wheels…

…and a custom naturally aspirated RB26 built by Rising!

The rear end goes for a drag-look with the omission of the stock rear spoiler. The owner of this car is out to confuse people!

And if you like NA Skylines how about this ER34 with a sport-injected RB25! Very cool.

Must sound pretty wild at full rpm!

Someone in the previous post asked to see some pictures of this E36. So here you go! A 318i lowered on Work Emotions…

…and powered by a 266 HP custom turbocharged M42. Apparently this engine, still running the stock 10.5:1 compression ratio, has incredible response with the little Trust TD05-16G always ready to give full boost (0.9 bar) at any rpm. This translates into a best time at Tsukuba of 1'04"500

It was hard to ignore this "X6 Supra" in one corner of the show.

The two polished IHI RX-6 blowers are run at 2 bar, giving a mighty 900 HP punch from the 3.1L 2J!

I really hope the organizers of the Tuning Powers show will be able to more interest from tuners next year as these are the kind of events true power-crazy otaku's crave!
