News>>rado Breaks Into The 6’s

Over the weekend we heard unconfirmed rumors that Chris Rado had driven his Scion tC into the 6's at Pomona, making it the first front-drive drag car ever to do so. There has been a little discrepancy regarding the time, but I just got off the phone with Chris who gave me the the quick rundown of what happened. With the car running faster than ever, and a solid coating of rubber on the track Chris laid down an astonishing 6.97 second ET during eliminations.

Unfortunately the incredible traction that the car had off the line caused the timing beams to misread the 60-foot time, technically making the ET "unofficial". Nonetheless, the complete 1/4 mile time is still legit by all accounts.

The drag racing was just part of Rado's wild week, which included record breaking time attack runs at both Buttonwillow and Fontana. He'll be posting a blog here soon with the story in his own words.

Rado is the man! Can't wait for the feature from his point of view.

2

that is amazing if its true

well done chris rado

3

That is definitely one of the sillier looking cars I've seen with the huge tyres on the front instead of the back. It obviously gets results, though.

4

Crazy I still remember when people barley started to breaking 10' and then 9'. Congrats to Rado!!!!!

5

WOOOOOOW!!!

6

A 7- second TC?

Amazing

7

yes would have to agree aswell, fwd drag cars just look plain stupid .

8

WHAT? For real? That's just crazy. Seems like it was not too long ago that a 10-second FF car was very quick. And now we have a 6-second FF drag monster. Congrats, Mr. Rado!

Lots of fwd drag cars look good, this limo'd tC just looks horrible, but it does perform. Congrats to Rado and the team

"RacerrRex said: A 7-second TC? Amazing"

Correction...6-second TC! :)

12

wow rado is to beast. he does everything...

13

Too legit! Congrats to Chris, and i look forward to seeing more of his exploits in the future

14

The car actually ran 6 sec twice neither of them being counted which will probably be mention by Chris in the blog he will be writing. any ways that's "holly crap" fast good job Chris and the guys at WORLD

15

i hear that tech found something monumental when they were doing the inspection on the car (but it still passed inspection). something major has to be happening in order to pull off a .7 60ft.

congrats to all involved.

16

so i've done some digging.

it appears as though the ET is official, but the 60ft was off due to a timing error. they estimate the actual was in the 1.01-1.03 range.

17

Impressive but the car looks so ridiculous lol

guess that's his style

(the rear wheels of the car look like they're just float lol)

It's like a big fatty engine with big fatty tires in front, then the rest of the car is just kind of following it, or someone magnified the front of the car and shrunk the back

function over form I suppose

18

Chris Rado should stick to what he does best; going straight.

I like how all the old time racers used to laugh and say fwd cars cant go fast . . .

Now all you can do is comment on how the car looks . . .

Hey since we are all going to act like we are back in high school, do you mind passing this note to Kelly Smith in 4th period, she is hot . . .

Grow up . . . . Its fast, who cares if it doesnt conform to what you THINK fast should LOOK like

23

ohh no way. kelly smith is mine!

24

Vid/pics or it didn't happen :P

25

amazing what you can do with a limitless budget and factory engineers at your disposal....

26

So Rado runs 6's at Pomona, and then wins the RedLine Fwd time attack at Cali speedway in the same weekend. He also gets class wins at all of the time attacks he entered.Set the track record at EVERY track he went to with his FWD. As well as ended up the USA FWD time Attack champion..

Id say that is pretty impressive driving and work by the crew...

I dont know how anyone could say he should stick to going straight.. Makes no sense at all.

27

"amazing what you can do with a limitless budget and factory engineers at your disposal...."

Are you implying that Rado has this... because he absolutely doesn't....

28

Limitless budget and factory engineers??? Your kidding...Not one factory engineer in sight on the team, just a bunch of dedicated crew guys that never stop working and pushing the limits...

As for the budget, you have no idea how much EVERY member of the team has given up to make this happen...It's not all about the money.

"With all the calculations and all the figuring and all the B.S. we figured the sixty was around 1.015@ best, and 1.034@ worst."

Ok we all agree the only two beams that matter is the first one and the last one. Start line finish line. And the rest just measure your progress during the run.

Now we know there is a 3 to 4 tenth head start at the sixty, because the time slip says .6 and .7 60 foots. I highly doubt the only two "glitches" that your calling flukes with the 60 foot clock all weekend. Only happened with your car and were not caused by your car giving a huge head start.

So we take that 3 and 4 tenths head start and add those to the 6.80 or 6.90.AND what do you get?!? A bunch of 7.20s just like the rest of the weekend.

Or do we just say congrats you leave harder then a top fuel funny car. ha

"So we take that 3 and 4 tenths head start and add those to the 6.80 or 6.90.AND what do you get?!? A bunch of 7.20s just like the rest of the weekend"

too bad that ET and 60ft are calculated by different systems, so the 60ft error has absolutely no effect on his ET.

NHRA used their super slo-mo setup on his car, and his car was only 4.75 frames slower than a top fuel car through the 60.

If you want to give Chris props for something, you should also give him props for driving a FWD car with 33s on the front, and no weight on the rear, that thing must be fucking scary as hell past the 1/8th

32

+1 to all of bartender's comments. Rado is the freakin man. What a crazy mofo. Geez, reading half the comments in here, its like non of you have ever seen a FWD drag car before. Mad props to Chris and his dedication to be the best at everything. I wonder how his AWD time attack tC is coming...

33

This isn't the first FF car to break into the 6s. I saw a 6-second Ion Redline at a NOPI event several years ago.

34

to Dusty Duster, no you didnt, and i think you mean Scion, not Ion.

35

I remember seeing this car 2 years ago in the "pits" at a drag race...at the time, I had no idea who Chris Rado was. Now, I'm kicking myself for not talking to him more.

36

Rado is what you might consider, "living the life".
