Event>> Tuning Powers – Pt.3

For this final look at the Tuning Powers show I'd like to start off with a modern classic, the Red Road Skyline you see above. The DR30 was the base for the famous Tomica Super Silhouette racer, a car I'm always reminded of when I see one of these boxy 80's Skylines.

Red Road went a bit crazy with the tuning, boosting the FJ20ET's output from a stock 150 PS to a massive 480 PS thanks to that rather big, at least next to a 2L 4-cylinder, Trust T78.

This little HA22 Suzuki Alto Works track car was pretty mean weighing only 590 kg and powered by a heavily modified K6A. Cad Cars bolted on a Trust TD-04 turbine to the little 660 cc engine and set boost at 2 bar, good for 160 PS with the little 3-cylinder revving all the way to 9,500 rpm!

The name "Chivic Type R" they picked for this project is rather funny, pronounced "Chibi-ku" where chibi means "tiny." That. it sure is, but I'm sure it would embarrass a few bigger cars around a race track!

I have always liked the AE111 Levin, sure it might not be an AE86 but it was a superb FF machine. This one is powered by a turbocharged 20-valve 4AG cranking out 222 PS at 7,200 rpm.

Someone wanted to see more pictures of the Fighter Engineering, a Kei car capable of doing the quarter mile in 13.75 sec.

Variety ruled at Tuning Powers and this Suzuki X-90 from Defi was definitely one of the rarest cars there. Only 1000 X-90s were ever produced back in the mid-nineties, and it's surprising anyone would want to modify something as weird as a compact SUV cabrio! Thanks to a turbo kit the power has doubled to about 180 PS.

The owner of this drag spec JZA80 had no idea how much power his car develops…

but with a rebuilt 3.1L 2JZ, twin Trust T618Zs….

…and some nitrous I'm guessing quite a lot! The car is street driven on a daily basis, something easy to as it's actually an automatic!

Last time I saw the T&E TP Checker S14 it was all smashed up, but its looking very nice now with a kouki front end conversion.

Loved the Feed aero on this FD, spiced up with some carbon details like the huge front splitter and side fender wing.

Single turbo conversion for the 13B, but strangely enough no V-mounted Intercooler and radiator set up.

This RE Amemiya AD kitted RX-7 was built by the guys at Racing Sports Active, the same people that created the "wedge" FC. They went for an InitialD look for this customer car, simply stunning.

Legendary drag shop Fuji Dynamics is responsible for this JZZ30…

…a car capable of pulling 9 second passes at the drag strip thanks to that crazy looking 1.5JZ!

You really can't get more JDM than an WC34 Stagea and this RS Four variant built by Autostrada sports some tasty touches…

…like blistered front fenders…

…and an RB26DETT conversion.  Perfect car to take care of the shopping as well as the occasional track day!

Spotted these massive Brembo 6-pot monobloc calipers fitted to an old E-class.

Infini BNR34 on white TE37. Simple but effective.

Was wondering how a stroked 2.7L RB could put out as much as 750 PS with a pair of HKS GT25030 turbines.

A quick look in the trunk gave me the answer.  Nawsssss LOL

Check out these two classics, on the right a KE70 Corolla…

…powered by a 3S-G from a Toyota Altezza…

…and on the left this decaying TE71 which we have already seen earlier this year at the Drift Matsuri. I wonder if it will be there in a few weeks at the summer installment of the epic drift event. I sure hope so!

This is Saclam's latest exhaust system made for the Z34. A very intricate design, yet very lightweight.

What better way to finish off the coverage with some American muscle. Well no, not really, this "Baby Cobra" is actually powered by a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine as it's based on the Suzuki Cappuccino! The quality of work on this conversion was simply amazing down to those massive side exit exhausts. Hope you enjoyed the wide variety of tuned machinery from the Tuning Powers show, I know I'm already looking forward to checking out next year's show!

3

Wow, love to read what u posted~ really cool post! the 2 corollas, they are actually both KE70, just that white one is more likely to be a GL and the right one is the DX model.

4

On that black supra -- are the seat belts just tied together behind the seats?

5

The stagea is called the C34, the model there after is the M35.

6

More pics of the Fuji Dynamics Soarer please.

7

anyone know what type of wheels are on the decaying te71? those are simple, but they look dope.

8

nice pics, love that R31 Skyline, there are quite a few rolling around in south africa, but they are the 4 door SGLi 6 cylinder models, cant remember if they are v or straight though.

9

that beams engine in the corolla is so sexy! i want :)

10

I want more pics of this show!!!!!

you guys post great stuff but i want more pics please!

11

OMG I want that K Cobra lol! Imagine the handles of a tuned Cappuccino with a Cobra on the outside, pure automotive bliss flying around the mountains.

12

in reply to AD the 4 door SGLI was a straight six RB30

13

sorry first post ,AD the motor is a straight six

14

That's an R30 Skyline, not R31.

15

more pics of the white R31 skyline please, the one in the background of the 7th photo down

16

They are rare but there were far more than 1000 X-90s made.

17

9 sec drag SC? Luvvit! And that 13.75 sec Cappucino! That's about what SS454 Chevelles and Hemi Chargers were quoted as in period magazines! Somehow I can't bring myself to believe that only 1000 X-90s were built, though. Love the "Porsche" graphics on the side of that Supra, lol. Kei Cobra is pure awesomeness, though! I'd love to see it next to a full-size Cobra rep like Superformance, Factory5, etc!
