I'll be honest and tell you straight away, I never knew that Volkswagen made a car called the Derby….. But it seems that the car in the picture is called just that. From what I can gather, VW called the saloon version of the Polo the Derby…. but they dropped the name in 1984. This car reminded me in some ways of a Japanese build car with its wide arches and wheels. The custom made diffuser and centre exhaust hint at its capacities.
Does anybody have more info on this car?

this car looks great! and serious! i love everything about it.
i dont think wide wheel arches and center exit exhuast started from europeans if anything but in racing all countries cars are the same
Heh, thats our oldschool VW Voyage brother over here in Latin America. Pretty sturdy car, I can still see some of them rolling around.
organiczero, VW Voyage is the same as the Fox, a Brazil-specific model. this is considerably older, and not the same model at all.
this car was featured in golf+ magazine around this time last year. as someone already said its rear bike engined setup. I thought it was a fireblade but could be wrong. Ill hook out the mag when im home..
