Event>> Fia Gt Adria – Gallardo Super Trofeo

The race organizers made sure it was an action packed week-end at Adria with the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo, sponsored by Blanpain, keeping the spectators happy in between the FIA GT and the GT3 races.

On Rod’s first Speedhunting in Italy post you may recall we saw a Gallardo race car zoom by as I was shooting the outside of the museum building. Well, unsurprisingly, we saw it a few days later in Adria. Here it is during a pit stop and driver change.

Based on the LP 560-4 these track going Gallardos sport a more aggressive body thanks to a front lip spoiler and canards on the vented sides of the new bumper. Under the skin the 5.2L direct injection V10 has been slightly tuned, allowing it to develop 10 HP over the already impressive stock 560 HP.

During the 40 min races the teams are allowed a driver change but the tires must last the whole race. Lamborghini partnered with Pirelli to develop a special compound slick tire that will take the abuse the AWD Gallardo dishes out.

I really liked the look of the official Blancpain Team cars, one is the inverse of the other! He he

The LP 560-4 sports a completely redesigned rear end with a much smoother design compared to the older Gallardo. The tail lights take some styling cues straight from the Reventon, complementing the Gallardo’s angular lines well.

Managed to sneak a peek at the front section of the car where you can see the racing radiator, the lightweight battery and the centrally mounted air jack

Check out the rear view with the big adjustable carbon wing. I bet Gallardo owners in Japan are going to go for this Super Trofeo look sooner or later!

I think all sports cars should come with integrated air jacks!

I’m a sucker for Lamborghini design. Just look at those details…

The Super Trofeo cars get an upgraded braking system and adjustable suspension.

The number 77 car had to come into the pits as it was suffering from brake problems. You can’t see very well, but the brake pads were smoking like crazy.

Grabbed a few high-shutter shots from the pit wall. The Super Trofeo is the only permanent AWD one-make series in the world.

Lamborghini plans to to develop the series more and try to make it the most exciting and most powerful one-make trophy around. I really enjoyed watching the practice and race, hearing those smooth V10 scream past the start/finish line at well over 200 km/h, before going hard on the brakes for turn 1. Next up from Adria is a look at some GT night racing…

Dino, mate, the photos are magnifico.

The Gallardo rear lights have taken on a distinctive Audi appearance and rightly so. Remember not to long ago, that Lamborghini was in financial dire straights and a German white knight came to its rescue?

The Gallardo, along with the Murcielargo and the Reventon are the fruit of these labors. Good to see them being put to some seriously hard use and also to see you capturing them in their elements.

Awesome work, mate.

That is so damn clean how the 2 Blancpain cars incorporate the Lambo badge on the hood as the centerpiece of their watch graphic. I would say this is an example of the kind of ingenuity that seems to be somewhat lacking in most of today's liveries.

Great article and pics Dino, havent been able to find much about this eries about from the series website but this is really good. Love the two Blancpain cars, thats some creative work there. Love to see a race with Gallardo Super Trofeo v Ferrari 430 Challenge v Porsche Carrera Cup/Super Cup (whichever of the Porsches is closest in performance to the other two cars-which one Im not sure).

Keep up the great work guys, if you were able to cover the rest of the FIA GT season like this it would be awesome.

This is the world's fastest one make series but the coverage is very limited. Thanks for the post, great stuff. A starting grid of 30 lightweight racing Gallardo LP 560-4 supercars must be an awesome sight!

FLINT - agree, nicely done. I do remember a TAG Heuer sponsored Porsche having similar positioning many moons ago
