Gallery>> Photos Of The Year Part Six

My turn to select some of my favourite images from this year. Its a mix of Speedhunters content and press images. Some evoke memories, others are just brilliant compositions, so lets get straight to it as wrapping presents beckons…

Aston Martin Racing

Probably my favourite shot of the year from Aston Martin, showcasing their pre-season racecars at Paul Ricard, La Castellet. The circuit is unique in having coloured stripes painted off course, which can really add to photos. Great shot.

Bad Penny Chevrolet Camaro

This is really down to the car, I just love this Camaro, which Steve Rupp owns. You can view our car spotlight here if you want to read more on this special Camaro

Monster Subaru Impreza!

This image comes from EXPN and Bill Luxwood. Great timing!  This cool image shows Ken Block landing hard, damaging his Subaru Impreza in the process.

Corvette at Le Mans

Another favourite, this time, the No 64 Corvette of Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Max Papis pulling in for a pit stop during the night. I’ve been very lucky to have been in the pits years ago and this captures the mood and excitement perfectly.

Driftworks Nissan Silvia S15

Great Action shot by our man John Brooks again, capturing the moment. I love the contrast with the Orange and Black livery. Again, you lucky speedhunters can read our very own car feature on this car here.

David Lister at Irwindale

One of John’s colleagues over at Sportscarpros ventured out to Irwindale to shoot Drifting for the first time. David came back with some stunning shots, a few have already been shown in our ‘Photos of the year’, so here are a couple more!

Both images happen to feature Speedhunters Vaughn Gittin Jr. Awesome images!

Eau Rouge, Spa-Francorchamps

I remember when I first visited Spa, back in 1992 for the Belgian Grand Prix. A Stunning circuit, even though it rained all weekend, but the one lasting image in my mind was how steep Eau Rouge really is. very few photos really convey it and in-board on a F1 car makes it looks a small rise, rather than the steep hill it is.

Goodwood and Jaguar

This image from John reminds me of days gone by. My first trip to Le Mans was to see the Jaguar XJR’s in action, and to this day I think this is one of the most stunning Sports prototypes. Maybe the XJR-15 is better. Great livery too.

Second reason for this image is the location. If you have never been, you must goto Goodwood Festival of Speed, but I will warn you, it is busy, very busy, but its a petrol-heads Mecca. I use to live a couple of mile from here (and then moved to within a couple of miles of Thruxton – think there was a pattern!) I went every year up until 2005, when we moved to Canada.

Norisring DTM

I’ve always liked DTM. I think its more the cars, the technology, rather than the racing as that element is a bit boring sometimes. Anyway, the Norisring is an amazing track, featured here and you can be sure that all the DTM pilots will be using the walls to help them round the corners.

Lewis!

We’ve only posted one image of Lewis, but I was personally so pleased to see Lewis win the World Drivers Championship.

One of the biggest highlights of my life, so far, was being a very small part of McLaren’s previous World Championships with Mika Hakkinen and I know how hard the team have worked for this. Well done everyone in Woking, and well done Lewis. Just keep your feet on the ground!
