Now that the big gravel parking lot next to the space used to hold the Street Car Nationals has been fully resurfaced, we might as well think of it as the show’s annex, such is the selection of cars that you can run across. About an hour before the show was due to end I [...]
While Daigo Saito brought a big taste of Japanese drift style to Formula Drift in the United States, back in his homeland he’s looking to spread the gospel of of big power American drift style. Not only is he building a Dodge Viper for Japanese competition, but he also purchased Sam Hubinette’s ex-FD Dodge Challenger, which can be seen here undergoing some testing at Ebisu Circuit.
I’m not sure what Daigo’s hardcore fanboys think of this, but I think it’s pretty cool to see him bringing him some international influence to Japan.
I’m so glad I decided to go to the Hobby Garage in Kuki the other day. Had I not, I don’t think I would have ever understood what “custom” really means to RC car enthusiasts in Japan. If you thought what you saw in yesterday’s post was impressive, well all I can say is scroll [...]
When I think of the pure awesomeness of America I first think of the usual stuff like bald eagles and apple pie. After that, I think of the SCCA Trans Am series circa about 1970. Was there ever a cooler and more exciting display of badass drivers and badass machines than these storied pony car [...]
To mix things up a little for our Tokyo Auto Salon coverage we thought we’d combine up a few of our spotlights together and bring you a spotlight-o-rama post from myself, Mike and Sean. We all chose two cars that stood out to us as we walked the halls of the Makuhari Messe for two [...]
Time to take a look at a final selection of cars from this year’s Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom Show, an event that year after year not only continues to get better, but defines how seriously and passionately the Japanese take this scene. I’ve kept the best American rides I came across for this last [...]
I’m often asked what I like most about being a Speedhunter. There are many answers to that question, but naturally it’s the constant exposure to cars that comes to mind first. My colleagues and I spend most of our waking moments (and many of our sleeping ones) thinking about cars. We never stop thinking about photographing them, driving them, building them, or writing about them. On top of that, what I like most is that we aren’t locked into one particular genre or style of car.
Vintage Trans Am cars are brilliant. There is no other way to put it. If you ever get the chance to watch these cars run in person, you'll know why so many consider late '60s and early '70s Trans Am to be one of the greatest racing series of all time. While enjoying the sights [...]
There I was, a Sunday drive when all of a sudden my automobile stopped in the middle of the freeway. Luckily, on the shoulder-side. I limped over and came to stop. When I opened the hood I was greeted with (a lot) of smoke and coolant water. My radiator had cracked and engine overheated… The plan to [...]
Hubinette: "Heyyy… what's up guys! So… you got an extra racing suit that fits me?" It's been a while since people have seen me post up here on Speedhunters; I've been on a much needed vacation – traveling, relaxing, and working on other projects. Anyway, I received a shocking phone call this evening from [...]
Now its my turn to post! I'm here in Las Vegas on Need for Speed business, collecting reference for future projects, but thought I would squeeze in a Speedhunter post or two. I have been to the last four SEMA shows and its a real love-hate affair for me! SEMA is huge, although with the [...]
The 2008 SEMA show is fast approaching, and as the big show draws closer, builders are starting to show off this year's project cars. The new Dodge Challenger will certainly be one of the most popular platforms at this year's show and a number of tuners have already shown their SEMA Challengers. The latest player [...]
