It was like any other lazy afternoon at my home in Los Angeles after returning from an overseas trip. I was just beginning to recover from all the jet-setting when I received a call from a friend telling me that he had a 2017 Lexus LC 500 for the afternoon and asking if I wanted to take a few photos of it.
One of the perks of being a Speedhunter is having access to exclusive cars to shoot, and this was an offer I simply could not pass up.
However, the day was almost done and it was rush hour traffic every which way, so I told him to meet me in Palm Springs, about 100 miles outside of LA.
We got there just in time; the soft, smog-filtered light really showed off the curves and shapes of this luxury 2+2 coupe.
The LC 500 was debuted in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) back in January, and is the production successor to the LF-LC Concept that Lexus showed us back in 2012.
It was great to shoot this car; my only regret was that I did not have a chance to drive the beast, which is yet to go on sale to the public.
Just like the Lexus RC F that I shot in Japan with Dino last year, the LC 500 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 outputting 467hp and 389lb-ft of torque.
Just check out the taillights, it’s like a hall of mirrors in there.
The interior was typical Lexus luxury. I didn’t even have time to play with all the bells and whistles.
In terms of styling, the LC 500 is a very good looking machine, and I especially like the headlight treatment. In my eyes, this is definitely a modern SC 400.
Next time I have an encounter with a LC 500, hopefully I will be putting it through its paces on some Southern California canyon roads. My buddy did hint to me that he may or may not be building one of these for this years SEMA show. I guess we will have to wait and find out.

Glad to see a production vehicle look very close to the concept, incredibly well executed luxury sports coupe.
This is a good looking car. However, it is MASSIVELY watered down from the concept. Of course, some elements couldn't be carried into production but, this car looks nothing at all like the concept. Except for the fact that it also has four wheels. I could have been excited for this car, if it was not the supposed production version of the concept but, this looks too much like everything else. And with this car sharing the exact same engine as the RC-F... what's the point? The RC-F is already Lexus' sport coupe with the same engine. Why does this car exist?

I can't wait for the SEMA car - a mechanically stock version with plastic riveted overfenders slammed to within an inch of it's life on stretched tires and non-complementary-colored wheels.
370 Hemi This car exists most likely for comfort reasons. The RC-F is a very stiff and sporty car; it may be heavy, but it is built to handle. The LC500 looks to more to be aimed as a grand touring coupe; something fast but very comfortable to drive (think Aston Martin). At least that is my take on this car.
The FT-1 presence is strong in this one.
tonecv Well Supra and Soarer are sister cars that road on similar chassis. Their parts were always interchangeable.

I don't understand how you've reached your conclusion. This is so close to the concept there were websites mistakenly posting pics of the concept calling it the production version.
It doesn't look like anything else in my eyes. This is the first recent Lexus that has truly embraced the spindle grille and incorporated it rather elegantly into the fascia design, without looking like it was grafted on as an afterthought. The details in the headlights and taillights are touches nobody has done before, below the supercar level.

DavidFRogers toddwithrow9 The first iteration handled like sh#t. And in reality was not very sporty or fun to drive - but it was quick. They may have sorted it out by now though. I guess when you take the front end of a Lexus LS and mate it to the rear of a IS, you get some funny chassis dynamics.
