Pro Touring cars are really quite amazing when you think about it. On the surface the idea is pretty simple, a vehicle with classic Muscle Car style matched with modern performance and livability. In theory it IS simple, but when it comes actually building these cars it the whole thing becomes a lot more involved.
And we’re back. The ninth instalment Speedhunting Weekend is about to begin. With half of the Speedhunters crew covering the 24 hours of madness currently about to ignite over at Spa Francorchamps and the Olympics now moments away from exploding out of half the world’s telly boxes, we would like to dedicate this week’s theme to performance. [...]
Have you ever questioned your levels of dedication? Quite often a project will put you to the test, whether there is a particular engineering problem to solve, or maybe it’s a case of putting in extra work hours to just get the funds together, ultimately the responsibility is yours and yours alone. Nobody made you [...]
After two weeks of reader vehicles submitted from Japan, this week we return to a global selection of vehicles from Speedhunters readers across the planet.
As great as the United States is when it comes to car culture, there have been so many times when my only thought is “this country is too damn big”. Whether it’s events, feature cars, or shops, there is just no way we can get out there and physically cover everything we want to. Thankfully, we have Speedhunters readers from all over the country (and the world for that matter) constantly sharing their automotive stories with us. One of these stories comes to us from Mike Zusin from Tennessee.
Aging is a an unavoidable, albeit occasionally depressing, part of life. With age comes many great things, wisdom for starters, but somewhere along the way we often seem to forget how to have fun. Every passing year marks further separation from our former selves. But try as it might, there are some things that our [...]
Last year was Walker Wilkerson’s rookie year in Formula Drift, during which he made quite the impression with his style and the fact that he was extremely competitive in his four-cylinder SR20DET-powered S13. This year he is back and bringing the heat by joining the ranks of the V8-powered S-chassis drift cars. I sat down [...]
Getting to drive through Eau Rouge, Spa’s legendary mountain-come-corner, once in a lifetime is a dream for most people. 250-odd GT drivers are about to get the chance to tackle Eau Rouge over 500 times through the day, night and day again this coming weekend during the Spa 24 Hours. The extra challenge is that [...]
Rotary engines are bit like automotive Lego in that you can seemingly attach as many rotors together as you want.
OK, it’s not quite that simple but rotary builders have come up with some truly bonkers setups over the years. The latest comes from New Zealand’s Pulse Performance Race Engineering who has put together a six-rotor monster engine known as the 6B. A few days ago the mad men at PPRE released this video clip showing the 6B as its fired up for the first time. Needless to say, the sounds this thing makes are absolutely insane.
This particular motor is being built for use in an old RX-4 and the company even plans to begin selling 6Bs to the public soon.
Today’s reader ride submission comes to us by way of Tenn Xoomsai of Bangkok, Thailand. Tenn has built himself a 1976 Celica 2000GT street car with a distinct race car feel to it, and based on what I’ve seen online is a fine representative of Thailand’s rich vintage car scene.
The 2012 Olympics are kicking off this week in London and the chance to see the greatest athletes on the planet might be a reason for many to visit, but if you are like us you’d be just as excited to see the BMW Art Car display which is being hosted by London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.
After we posted a short video clip yesterday of the the LoveFab NSX undergoing some testing last year, our friends from HRE Wheels contacted us with some more images of the Pikes Peak special. Needless to say, we felt you guys might enjoy seeing some more photos of this wild creation.
The 2012 Pikes Peak Hillclimb may have been delayed to next month following massive wildfires in Colorado, but that hasn’t stopped the excitement over the big event. Among the cars that will be running up the mountain this year is an incredible Acura NSX built by LoveFab out of Michigan. The clip shows the car undergoing some testing last fall, and since then the NSX has become even more extreme.
You can find out more about the car over on LoveFab’s website.
There was a time when Formula 1 was about more about power than politics, and playboy drivers showed their Playboy affiliations overtly on the side of their cars rather than the gossip pages of newspapers. There was an honesty involved, of both the cars and the championship: a period where the cars and tracks had [...]
If you’ve been following automotive news recently you may have heard about the financial troubles plaguing Germany’s famous Nürburgring. Unfortunately, things just seem to be getting worse as Nürburgring GmbH officially filed for bankruptcy last week. We were contacted by Mike Frison who is a long time advocate of preserving this legendary temple of speed. If you are unaware of how the situation got to this point, Mike has put together a timeline that shows exactly how the Nürburgring came to be in its current troubles.
More importantly, Mike has also played a huge role in the Save the Ring, campaign which encourages motorsport fans from around the world to take action on the matter.
As of now the future of the Nürburgring is still uncertain, but here’s hoping the famous circuit will be around for years to come.
