In my view, one of the coolest things you can with an automobile is building it into something that could have been done from the factory but wasn’t. Fitting with this theme we have an incredible BMW that’s currently up for auction over on Ebay Motors.

The iconic Lotus Elan celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and the Elan will be taking centre stage at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival Of Speed in the UK. This was a car launched within a year of other groundbreaking cars such as the E-Type, the AC Cobra and Ferrari GTO – cars all about power. [...]

I’ve shot many types of motorsports, but my favorite will always be drifting. There really is nothing quite like it. I find myself sitting in traffic all the time, which of course is pretty normal in Los Angeles. When someone slams on their brakes and lock up their tires they create a tiny puff of [...]

It’s been a tough last couple of weeks for the Japanese teams that will be participating at this year’s World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) down in Australia. With everyone after a win, or at least a podium finish, there has been a ton of fine tuning, testing and developing that needed to be done and [...]

The Z32 Nissan 300ZX is car that I personally consider to be one of the best looking Japanese cars of the 1990s, and from a design standpoint is right up there with the original S30 at the top of the Z food chain, It’s twin turbo powerplant also makes plenty of horsepower to back up it looks. With that said, it seems Z32 has always had more of a boulevard cruiser image rather than one of a hard-edged sports car.

The Musée Automobile De La Sarthe at the Le Mans circuit in France is the perfect way to familiarise yourself with over a century of automobiles linked to the famous race, containing both important road cars from across the decades and a slew of racers from the 79 editions of the Le Mans 24 Hours. There’s a lot for drag racing fans to enjoy on Speedhunters right now, with my coverage from the NMCA event at Famoso now being joined by Dino’s look at the Motor Head Zero-yon meet in Japan. Two events in completely different settings, but held with the same love for raw acceleration.
With that said, let me go ahead and continue my look at the NMCA WEST season opener.

If there’s one event on the New Zealand motorsport calendar that I’ll never miss, it’s the local round of the World Rally Championship. I’ve followed the rally since the early ’90s when the Special Stages were dominated by Toyota Celica GT4s and Lancia Delta Integrales, and while the cars may have come a long way [...]

I’ve always wondered what caused the demise of drag raging in Japan. Back in the eighties and nineties it was by far the most popular form of racing, something that tons of enthusiasts and plenty of tuning shops like Top Secret built their reputation around. It helped fuel the need for power in the nineties [...]

Stephen Brooks has just posted up his latest video creation, showing off the lowriders created by the De Alba family in East LA. With a love of lowriding passed down from father to son, the De Alba family have created this pair of lowrider Impalas: a ’64 street hopper and ’63 ‘El Rey’. Both cars are beautiful, and whether you’re a fan of lowriders or not you should check out this video for a hydraulic-powered tour of LA. It’s a bumpy ride…

Over the past few years I’ve had many opportunities to cover drag racing events for Speedhunters, and Auto Club Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield in particular has become one of our go-to spots. Famoso is most famously known for the March Meet and the California Hot Rod Reunion – two of the world’s most famous nostalgia drag meets held there annually.
I found myself at Famoso once again this weekend, but this time I’d be aiming my camera lens at slightly different type of drag action.

One of the many cars that left me scratching my head at Gatebil was this innocent enough from a distance Volkswagen Polo. The fourth generation Polo never really got a whole lot of love from enthusiasts, with the exception of the GTi variant which arrived in 2005 when the 9N was face-lifted as the 9N3. I guess there wasn’t really an appeal to tune something which is by all accounts, a small city car. That is of course until Dahlback got their hands on one …

About once a month I head to my favorite bookstore in Tokyo, grab a coffee and flick through a big stack of car magazines from Japan and around the world. It’s something I really love doing, it’s a great way to see how all things car related are portrayed in different countries and publications.

Scale automobiles mimic their full size counterparts in more ways than one. Some people spend thousands on racing RCs for example, tweaking their vehicles to go as fast possible. Others invest countless hours into scale model building, making sure they have every last detail down and building their own parts from scratch. Others are collectors, hoping to track down rare and expensive diecast models that they display in brilliant cases.
The great thing about automotive collectables is that much like real cars – it’s a hobby that can fit with nearly anyone’s budget. In fact, the total amount invested on everything you’ll see in this post is probably less than what you’d spend on a dinner for two at any decent restaurant these days.
