Gallery>> The Human Element Of Fd

It is in our nature as hobbyists or as obsessive compulsive gear heads to always look at the technical side of anything automotive related. When we look at Formula D, we almost always concentrate on the cars; their engines, their suspension setups or their visual aesthetics. But the main reason we love FD so much is because of its very human element.

And like in many other motorsports, Formula D is a human drama with cars as its set pieces.

We are engrossed in the moments of personal triumph. We saw Daijiro Yoshihara fall into a slump after his big crash last year in Seattle. Now, he walks away with two wins in the 2010 season. He's on a high and we're just as addicted.

When there are highs, there of course, are lows –moments of crushing disappointment. This is the face of a man who knows that he will not be able to step onto the stage to play his part in the round of 32.

Then of course, there are the unsung heros of FD. This is a face rarely seen but we have all seen to his work. This is Jose Martinez. He's the official Photographer of Formula D. One of the hardest working people out on track and also one of the most humble, entertaining and comical guys to spend time with in the media pits.

We love the cars that are involved, but the main reason that FD has garnered such a following is because of the people and stories that are a part of its year long drama.

I just can't wait to see what comes out of the rest of the season. Will Dai ride continue to ride the wave? Will Vaughn Gittin' Jr. become Mr. Consistant and sweep up all the rounds that are left in the year? Is there a wild card that will come from left field and shake up the championship?

Forget prime time serial dramas, I want more FD.

Agreed.

Little quote from Drift Alliance:D

Best prank you ever pulled?

For the first few years of Formula D, everyone that made top 16 would get to pick their own intro song that would play while you were being introduced before the tandem rounds started. It was awesome. We would all pick rock n’ roll or screaming metal, that kind of stuff, and it was probably my favorite part of making top 16. Well, Rhys Millen used to come out to G’n'R’s “Welcome to the Jungle” and I thought it would be awesome if we could get that changed to something ridiculous. You would give your CD with your intro song on it to the DJ guys in the drivers meeting, and I had JR make a CD that said Rhys Millen Chicago FD Intro song, really professional, and with a label maker, as we imagined how a real team RMR cd would look. At the end of the driver’s meeting, I stood up and announced “Hey guys, let me collect your intro song CD’s” and I took a stack of about 7 to the FD guys. When Rhys rolled out in his GTO all super badass, and hops out of his car, and heard Men at Work’s “Land Down Under” blaring over the loudspeakers, it was totally worth it. We were all crying with laughter.

You just must love this :D

Seeing as Rhys is actually an NZer, that must have hurt his feelings to be classed as an Aussie.
