Gatebil has this peculiar trait of serving you up new and amazing things, just when you think you have seen it all. We arrived on Thursday evening and the whole team spent every minute of the next three days seeking out the best cars for feature shoots. Come Sunday afternoon, I was quite confident that [...]

Ok, I’m going to be completely straight with you. Before this shoot, I didn’t know a huge amount about gasser cars. So this was an incredibly cool experience. It also transpired pretty quickly that this wasn’t actually a gasser – simply a car that has elements of the style. Actually this car has lots of [...]

Sweden. What comes to mind when it’s mentioned for you? Are there images of unspoiled nature and virgin forests dancing through your head? Or perhaps a glitzy disco song from Abba is playing? It could be that you think of the furniture mega-retailer IKEA, or the clothing giant H&M. You might have a more edgy [...]

1980s Week on Speedhunters has been a stark reminder about one of my own personal cars from that era. When I look at my 1989 Volvo 245 estate, I wonder what it could have been by now if I’d have realised that it was a proper project car and not just a bit of fun. [...]

If you sit on one of LA’s crowded freeways these days, you’ll probably notice a lot of hybrids and other “green” vehicles surrounding you. Los Angeles is one of the biggest markets in the USA for eco-friendly vehicles, and this isn’t lost on exhibitors at the annual LA Auto Show. Each year the show brings a number of new hybrid and EV production cars, as well as futuristic concepts with even bolder aspirations. But let’s not forget that LA is also considered by many to be the birthplace of Hot Rodding, Lowriding, Japanese import customization, and many other more exciting aspects of car culture.

While it’s already been over forty-eight hours since I left the Las Vegas Convention Center, I can still feel the effects of the SEMA show, both mentally and physically. It’s that one-week jam-packed full of cars, parts, people and parties that those of us who work in the tuning industry will spend the next 362 [...]

With the Paris Motor Show just a couple of weeks away, many of the big auto manufacturers are beginning to release teasers of what’s going to be lighting up the dark halls of the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The most impressive images so far have come from Peugeot, with their radical Onyx concept. The [...]

It’s time wrap up the InterClub coverage from this past Sunday now as we take a final look at some more cars that were roaming the paddock that day. I would have loved to do a second Spotlight-o-rama but with constant sessions and everyone moving around it was tough, so I think a final general [...]

We are all products of our own environments. It’s our surroundings that shape the decisions we make and the paths we choose, and this notion can be applied to quite a lot of things. Take cars for example. Ever since I was a kid one of the most interesting aspects of traveling was always observing [...]

During my return to Japan I had time to reflect over the mind-blowing experience that Gatebil has been for all that participated. I mean to think that Norway barely has a population of 5-million people, yet more than 50,000 showed for this year’s event is to me one of the most incredible aspects of this [...]

If you haven’t noticed by now, Gatebil Rudskogen was a pretty wild place. When I arrived I really didn’t know what to make of it but quickly discovered it’s only too easy to become overwhelmed. With so much going on at any time just trying to decide where to go and what to do becomes [...]

The myth of Gatebil Rudskogen is one I’ve been hearing from friends for quite some time. As a Speedhunters reader I have long been aware of the shenanigans and the completely mental machines but I still never really “got it”. I had this impression that it was a festival comprised of mind bending shed built [...]

While we love spotless race car builds or thorough restoration projects as much as anyone, we also have a great deal of respect for all the low budget, grassroots car builds happening across the world. Representing the latter, we have a 1984 Volvo 242 DL that comes to us by way of Josh Saddler from Fallbrook, California. Josh owns a shop called Yoshifab, and this Volvo is just one of the many crazy projects he has going on.

During my time as a Speedhunter I’ve learnt one thing: that the people from Scandinavia are truly mental when it comes to building cars. Take this Golf project for example, which is not only mind-blowing, but also executed flawlessly. First you take a discarded Golf MKIII and start tearing it apart. When you’re left with a bare [...]

In light of our look at street cars and sleepers this month, Speedhunters reader Marcus Norberg sent us a tip on a rather unique Volvo C70 he found on Garaget.org. I wasn't able to read all of the spec list (damn language barriers!), but it's clear that this car has a huge amount of work [...]
