Amazing cars, an illustrious location, a chilled out vibe and the beautiful British Summer. Ok, so the last is a bit dubious, but otherwise, these are some of the key ingredients that go towards making up the Players Classic show at Goodwood. The Speedhunters crew will be there in force and you’ll be glad to [...]
Ah, Spring. It’s the time of grass growing, plants blooming and baby animals being born. But let’s face it, none of us really care about that right? What Spring truly means to any petrolhead is the time to fire up the car, break out the polish, prep for the oncoming show season and hit the [...]
How long is five years? Like a lot of things, it all depends on your point of reference. As a small kid five years seems like (or actually is) a lifetime. As an adult, the time can pass in the blink of an eye. In some ways life hasn’t changed much since 2008 and in [...]
Can you believe it’s already April again? While I associate April first with my Speedhunters anniversary, for drift fans it means something much more exciting – the official start to the Formula D season. Long Beach is round one on the calendar and brings with it many highly anticipated build debuts. Today we’ll take a [...]
Hello. My name is Mike, and I have a problem. In the 12 years that I’ve had my drivers license, I’ve gone through more cars than most normal people would in several lifetimes. I’m not quite sure why this is, but I think it’s because my mind never really stops thinking about cars. Of course [...]
It was about three months ago, on my last trip down to the Kansai area of Japan, that I realized I was standing in front of THE car of 2013. As Ueta-san of BenSopra ran the plans he had for his 180SX-based project by me, it quickly became obvious that there wasn’t going to be [...]
It’s been exactly two years since Motor Head began circulation in Japan. In these 24 months this publication has brought an unparalleled level of quality to print media and has managed to stay fresh and innovative in what can only be described as the hardest time print has ever endured. Issue number six, which has [...]
Japan is such a special place. Its car culture runs so deep and is so widespread it’s almost unbelievable it can keep so detached from the mainstream. If you live your day to day life in Japan your exposure to cars will be very uninspiring, a sea of vans of all sizes, eco cars and the odd import make up the majority of the carscape on the roads. Ads on TV are the same, everything is eco-related, nothing that unleashes even the remotest of emotion. Dig a bit deeper however, and you will be astonished at your findings. That is what Retro Car Kings is all about. This all new program which I worked on earlier in the year will air on Discovery Channel Japan this coming Saturday at 5 pm and will showcase shops that we all know and love, places like RWB, TA-Auto and Rocky Auto as well as others we have yet to cover on Speedhunters. For now the program will only be aired in Japan but maybe will be shown elsewhere in the near future through the power of the internet.
It all started a few months ago, on what I had assumed would be a typical skype conversation with our fearless leader, Rod Chong. “I have big plans for Irwindale this year” he told me, “and I have an idea for you… but I might be crazy.” I smiled and paused in anticipation to hear [...]
As exciting as it’s been to witness the expansion of Speedhunters this year, I couldn’t help but feeling a bit left out when it comes to the big events. Sure it was great fun to read the tales from those amazing events in Europe, but I’ve been patiently awaiting for the USA to get the full scale Speedhunters treatment this year.
There was Gatebil, there was Spa, there was Silverstone, and now there’s Irwindale. The wait is over.
We are proud to announce the launch of the Speedhunters eStore. We never tire of watching cool videos of great events like Gatebil. Here is Daniel Hovdahl’s take on the whole crazy weekend that went down last month in Rudskogen. I won’t blabber on…just hit play and enjoy!
Next Monday will be 86 Day and as ever here at Speedhunters we are planning on dropping by Daikoku PA to check out how many hachiroku will be gathering this year. If you are a AE86 owner here in Japan why don’t you drop by and have a chat to us, we will be there from 8 pm and will have plenty of Speedhunters stickers to hand out. We are looking forward to seeing you, and your cars!
With cameras in one hand and iPhones in the other, in just over two days time the Speedhunters team will be descending on the Nürburgring for the 2012 running of the 24 Hours. We want to make this the best coverage of a 24-hour race we’ve ever done, and we’re aiming to bring you as close [...]
As we wind down the last of our 2011 stories, I thought it would be fun to put together a different type of themed gallery, which focuses on the much sought after Speedhunters stickers. Whenever we attend events, Speedhunters team members around the world are normally more than happy to give out these stickers. You [...]
