If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise. Especially if the woods in this example is Adenauer Forest, and you’re heading there for this weekend’s annual Nürburgring 24hr. In honour of what must be the toughest endurance race, we’re going to have an #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER celebration of the Nürburgring. If you’re [...]
A lot of people don’t realise that Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring are only separated by around 65 miles of public road. So within the proverbial stone’s throw, you have arguably two of the greatest racing circuits on this planet. On one hand you have Spa, probably the greatest grand prix circuit there is [...]
There’s no doubt a lot of you have heard about the ongoing uncertainty over the future of the Nurburgring. There have been some recent developments on the situation and unfortunately things aren’t looking good. The facility officially goes up for sale next month, and although there are rumoured to be between five and ten parties [...]
Go to the Nürburgring for a track day? As it’s one of the most challenging, dangerous, thrilling and addictive tracks in the world, how could I resist the opportunity? I think if I had passed up this chance, my Speedhunters status would have been unquestionably revoked. I would have hung up my car keys and retreated quietly to [...]
Well guys, this is it, the very last hours of 2012. In fact, some of you will already be reading this in the new year. Very soon the site will return to our usual schedule of awesome feature cars and event coverage, but before we dive into 2013 I wanted to take one last look [...]
Holiday Greetings to all of you Speedhunters. I hope you’ve been able to take a moment to slow the pace down and take stock of your surroundings. I certainly have used this brief lull-in-action for some concentrated down-time and have been doing as little as humanly possible for the past week or so. Well, at [...]
Well Speedhunters, two-thousand-twelve is very nearly over and the remaining days on the calendar are few. Fortunately the Armageddon never came and my mind is already looking ahead at how to make 2013 even better, but before I can clear off my plate to focus on the new year there are still two more posts [...]
A lot of people were probably wondering why Nissan didn’t take its entry in this year’s Nürbugring 24 Hours race a little more ‘seriously’. While manufacturers like Audi and Mercedes-Benz brought their latest and most capable race cars to the word’s most gruelling endurance race, Nissan showed up in a road-spec version of the R35 GT-R running only minor modifications to help it cope with the stresses of a 24-hour race. Why not enter something like the GT3 version of the R35? Simple, the race was to serve as an experience for the whole GT-R’s development team, lead by Mizuno-san, preparing them for the next step in the car’s development. Hit play and relive what the team went through.
Travel does something for the human psyche that is quite difficult to explain. It allows a cleansing of the subconscious and leaves you with a pleasant sense of well being. Visiting countries with culture and geography significantly different from your own allows you brain to grow in an uncomplicated way, much like it did when [...]
I’ve been planning to write this story for some years now, but I kept putting it off. I always tried to make an excuse that I didn’t have the images I needed, or I needed more research, or that I didn’t know the track well enough. Truth be told, you can never accurately portray just [...]
… you’re in for a big surprise. No, you really are in for a big surprise. The official figures from last weekend’s Nürburgring 24HR indicated that somewhere around 235,000 people attended the event. Regardless of how you look at it, that’s quite a lot of people converging on the same place for the same purpose. [...]
Those of you that have followed our annual Nürburgring 24 Hours coverage will know that it’s not just about the 24Hr Rennen itself. In fact, there are several other classes that share event time with the toughest endurance race on earth. For most, the classic race is the pick of the bunch. The paddock alone [...]
Could this have been the craziest finish ever to a Nürburgring 24 Hours? Within a lap of the end, third to fifth places all changed and even as the chequered flag was being readied for the winner two cars were smashed to pieces right on the finish line. This is what a Porsche looks like [...]
George A. Romero references aside, the earth has finally turned just enough on its axis to allow the sun to shine on the Eifel region once more. For the sleep deprived, the darkness seemed to last an eternity. At 05:38AM the ball of fire poked its head about the horizon but with it came another [...]
Time slows to a crawl at night during endurance races. For a period that takes up well over a third of the race, the darkness does more than make it extra difficult for drivers to pick their way round the pitch-black track – it also shrouds the race itself. With the race’s TV coverage put [...]
