While Porsche’s official return to Le Mans is still more than a year away, the company isn’t letting anyone forget what they are working on for 2014. This clip, featuring some great vintage footage from the 1971 race, also reminds everyone that they’ve got quite a legacy to live up to.
The name gives it away. After all, you don’t name your company after two-time Formula 1 World Champion Alberto Ascari for nothing. Soon after producing their first exotic supercar in 1998, the company was bought out by Dutch millionaire and passionate racer Klaas Zwart. This was a man who wasn’t satisfied by just racing other [...]
This is an example of the most successful family of racing cars ever made. This isn’t a discussion point: the sheer statistics can bludgeon you into submission. Porsche’s 956/962 series of prototype sports racers had a competitive lifespan at the highest level of racing for the best part of two decades and racked up more [...]
As part of our commitment to shine the spotlight on more up and coming photographers, this we week we are proud to introduce you to the work of Alexis Goure. The 26 year old from Le Mans in France recently graduated from the IAE of Toulouse with a masters in Marketing. However, Alexis is currently focused on developing his career as a motorsport photographer. As you will see from the following, he’s a dab hand at it too…
Another year in Speedhunting has blasted by at full speed: another 12 months where our feet have barely hit the ground. Bed is often an airline seat, wardrobes are suitcases and home is, well, where the camera is. Some things are circular: after starting off several years with the Dubai 24 Hours, so now the [...]
The Classic Motor Show at the Birmingham NEC is a Mecca for retro car fans: hall upon hall of clubs, cars for sale, restoration workshops, auto-jumble and auctions. For me it turned into an unexpected journey of nostalgic bliss, with cars at every turn that triggered memories from across my life: childhood pin-ups, cars that [...]
Productivity is vastly overrated. I’ve been trying to put together the next #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER post for the last couple of hours, but in-between sorting through the hundreds of submissions, I keep finding myself wandering onto YouTube seeking out another fix of speed.
If I’ve seen this video once, I must have seen it a hundred times since I was a kid on a VHS my father had (and still has). I wasn’t even alive when Derek Bell piloted his 956 down the old Mulsanne straight (sans-chicanes of course) but that hasn’t stopped me trying to relive the moment on a regular basis. Prepare for your eyes to bleed as Bell absorbs all 3.7 miles of the famous Le Mans straightaway in little over a minute.
Hard mechanical, analogue sounds are all around me. Compressed air pumps through a windy gun somewhere nearby as wheel nuts are driven off their threads at speed. The whir and chirrup as they are released is about as modern as it gets here in the pits at the Le Mans Classic. The cars competing are [...]
The Musée Automobile De La Sarthe at the Le Mans circuit in France is the perfect way to familiarise yourself with over a century of automobiles linked to the famous race, containing both important road cars from across the decades and a slew of racers from the 79 editions of the Le Mans 24 Hours. [...]
Indianapolis. Monaco. Le Mans. Three places that even non-motorsport fans would identify as representative of the spirit of racing, and the Holy Trinity of races that any driver worth his salt wants to have on his CV. Each of them is the epitome of their style of racing: Indy for high speed ovals, Monaco for [...]
Aston Martin has officially debuted the newest version of the Vanquish and what a beauty it is. Taking several styling cues from the One-77 supercar, the Vanquish is still has that unmistakeable Aston Martin shape and of course that air of British luxury. With its 6.0 liter V12 making 565bhp, Aston Martin is calling the [...]
We are just hours away from the start of one of the world’s great automotive spectacles – the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
While we all can’t be trackside at la Sarthe , the entire race can be experienced through the wonders of television and the internet. Our question this week is just how much of the famous endurance race you plan on watching this weekend?
Will you be glued to your TV or computer screen for the entirety of the race? Will you ignore it entirely? Somewhere in between?
We’re already 10 hours of running down, and that’s just through practice and qualifying here at the Circuit De La Sarthe in France. With three drivers itching to get out and a lap taking three and a half to four minutes, a single flying lap costs a minimum of 12 minutes – so what seems [...]
Looking back through the eight decades of the Le Mans 24 Hours, it’s clear that certain marques are synonymous with the different periods of the race: Audi in the contemporary era, Porsche in the ’70s and ’80s, Jaguar in the ’50s, Alfa Romeo and Bentley in the ’30s. The early 1960s were all about Ferrari, [...]
BMW have announced that they are introducing two exclusive M models to the UK market, the M3 and M5 Performance Editions. Both care will be available in three ‘Frozen’ paint schemes (Japan Red with a red wrap, Frozen White and Frozen Blue) with black Merino leather interiors in the M5 and black Novillo leather in [...]
