We couldn’t possibly have ended our TAS 2013 coverage without dedicating some space to one scene that has come to define JDM car culture just as much as extreme tuner cars, vintage rides and dorisha. As we have seen in the course of the last few years VIP style has proven to be the fastest [...]

You might imagine October and November as being slow times in the Speedhunting universe, but here in my part of the world that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The last few weeks have been non-stop events, starting at Formula Drift Irwindale, then All Star Bash and the Hot Rod Reunion the next weekend, followed by the madness of SEMA. It doesn’t end there though. Before I even had a chance to recover from a week in Vegas I was plotting a course south from Nevada, heading to the beautiful city of San Diego.

If you want modern motive emotion, pretty soon it’s going to come with electricity as standard in some form or another, but the Mondial De L’Automobile show in Paris showed that it’s not necessarily always a bad thing, especially when it involves well over 700 electrified horses… Geneva might still be the place for an [...]

And so the debate of form over function continues. I suggest that you don’t bother reading on if your aren’t prepared to expand your horizons, because we are diving very much head first into the realm of the VIP ride. And as you have probably gathered from the bright blue Q45 in these pictures, this [...]

Concept cars can be a thorny subject. What value is there in showing off what a company could do, when what they actually do is quite another thing? After all, the crushing disappointment of a dashing concept turning into yet another run-of-the-mill family box is all too familiar. But there are exceptions (I'd hold up [...]

The Geneva Motor Show opened its doors to the press earlier this week ahead of the public opening tomorrow, and already there's been a whole slew of announcements, many leaked in the days leading up to the show. As with so many events these days, manufacturers try to trump each other and gain maximum exposure [...]

Naoki Kobayashi from Drift Association sent us this shot of him having some fun in his Infiniti J30 sedan. The J30 (or Nissan Leopard in Japan) certainly gets overlooked compared to all the other Japanese four-doors out there, but as Naoki has shown, it can be made into a pretty unique drift machine. Thanks for [...]

When I think of VIP style, my mind conjures up thoughts of important political dignitaries being escorted around in full sized JDM sedans dropped to the ground with two flags waving up front representing their respective countries. If my fantasies somehow played out in the real world, those sedans would look somewhat similar to this [...]

How do you explain the hellaflush scene to somebody that has function on his mind? I found myself in this very position during my recent visit to DBM Engineering. We Speedhunters have been talking a lot about flushness, the car in this spotlight proves that it's not all about the stretch, poke, stance or sitting [...]

Four or five years ago, I was at the SEMA Show when I saw a black VIP Style Y33 Infiniti Q45 in the Falken booth. As I looked at the car, I was wondering what the hell it was. Surely it was some sort of JDM-only luxury car imported for the show. Only after a [...]

From the moment, I pulled up to the Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport in a Z11 Nissan Cube and met Rod Chong in a stripped Jacket followed by a ‘dude-awesome-rice’ comment by Linhbergh, I knew an adventure had begun. I grew up in London and moved to Houston nine years ago. For the past 4 [...]

At the recent Concourse event in Pebble Beach, Infiniti revealed the first renderings of the all new 2011 M Sedan. Using a clay model with projected with computer images, Infiniti certainly chose a classy place to show off their new flagship. With a bold new styling and more displacement under the hood, the new M [...]

We've looked at some very expensive vehicles, lets look at some more affordable debuts from Geneva earlier this week. In Europe, the hot-hatch is popular. Ford's new Focus RS appears to be the new king, but hot on their heels are two new cars from Alfa Romeo and Renault. The Renault Megane RS250 is the [...]

Although some people may think the body style is past due for the next stage of evolution, the 2008 Infiniti M45S (equipped with the Sport Package) still brings a smile to my face. Perhaps it is the way the responsive steering feels or the rumble of the 325 horsepower V8 underneath my right foot – [...]
