As the Formula 1 dust settles at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona after last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix I’ve been thinking back to a couple of weeks ago when I was at that very track. It was my first visit to the circuit, courtesy of the Spirit Of Montjuïc classic racing festival, and as [...]

Take examples of almost 75 years’ worth of the classiest, most exotic, fastest and just generally most drop-dead beautiful Mercedes that have been built, and you have the Mercedes-Benz World collection at Brooklands in the UK. Putting age as well as beauty first, I’ll start off in true VIP style with the epitome of chic: [...]

What do you remember about the 1980s? What things does that decade make you think of? Were you even born then?! To some people, the decade recalls a new wave of questionable music, terrible fashion crimes, big hair, the rise of MTV and soap operas like Dallas. More seriously there were nuclear meltdowns, ill-thought out [...]

We feature an awful lot of images of cars here on Speedhunters. As event after event rolls round, it’s rather easy to get caught up with the excitement of seeing another fantastic car that you know deserves a shot in a story, and worry about getting the clearest image possible of the whole car. But [...]

Racing is in Germany’s blood: since the pre-war days facing up to the big three of France, Italy and Great Britain, the Silver Arrows have been pounding the opposition on the tracks around the world for over 80 years. The 2012 Essen Motor Show put on a special display of sportscars in Hall 3 celebrating [...]

Overwhelming. That was the first reaction on entering the second showroom at JD Classics in Essex, the UK’s – if not the world’s – premier historic car restoration firm. Surrounded by Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and so on, I had the impression that I was in an international automotive art museum of the highest calibre. Which [...]

Ever hear the saying “only in Japan?” Well if that doesn’t apply to this particular car, well I really don’t know what does! I’m just going to go ahead and assume that everyone reading this has seen the film that MotorHead magazine produced of this crazy street-registered Porsche 962C and move swiftly along to that [...]

Your local racing circuit is a special place, yet one that is often overlooked – unless you happen to live next door to the Nordschleife. I guess it’s a case of the grass always being greener on the other side, but rarely do we give enough credit to our home circuits. I’ve shot more events at Mondello Park than I care to remember, and as such have pretty much taken the place for granted. With all the doom and gloom – financially speaking – surrounding the world of motorsport these days, it has made me looking at things differently and forced me to appreciate things more. Rather than taking Mondello for granted, I want to show you why it’s one of my favourite racing circuits anywhere in the world.

This year the Group C sportscar rules are celebrating 30 years since their inception, and the organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours invited the Group C/GTP historic series to be the hors d’oeuvre for the 24 Hours this year. This being the natural home of these big sports prototypes, drivers jumped at the chance [...]

If there is one track that really qualifies as a Temple of Speed, it has to be Fuji Speedway. It might not have the long history of some of the legendary race circuits we have featured so far like Brooklands and Autodromo Nazionale Monza, but since its opening in December 1965 it has held an [...]

Last weekend’s Donington Historic Festival provided a feast for the eyes both off and on the track. The hour-long Group C race kept the big crowd entertained as they were treated to a range cars from across the period. Some exclusive cars were brought out to play, like the Sauber-Mercedes C9, which flew around Donington [...]

Most of the races at the 2012 Donington Historic Festival deliberately looked back in time to overtly historic periods in racing, ones where the aesthetics of the participating cars painted a clear picture of yesteryear. After all, a Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DBR1 or Lotus Cortina hark back to an obviously different time when compared [...]

The Donington Historic Festival is now in its second year, and for 2012 it has continued the theme of bringing a wide variety of classic racing series to the public combined with open access to all the paddocks – and open arms for as many car clubs as they could fit onto the in-field. Like [...]

Twenty Years………….roughly a third of most people's adult life and yet it seems to have flashed by in the twinkling of an eye. Back in 1990 I had just left the advertising world and was working in Covent Garden for a design agency, we were so hip and so cutting edge or so we thought. [...]

Do we have any Schumacher fans in here? Schumacher haters? Personally speaking, I've had an on-off opinion of "Schumi" over the seasons. He was rather good at playing the villian racing driver for many years, although after a few seasons this became "the saviour of Ferrari" and then later on the centerpoint of total domination. [...]
