And so the evolution continues. Last week, after dropping off the RAUH Passion following my Dream Drive on Mt. Tsukuba, I headed inside for a chat with Nakai-san, only to spot a freshly painted and impossibly wild-looking 993. “This,” Nakai said, “is my new race car.” Now Nakai is never one to boast, so while he [...]
If you’re like me, then you probably can’t get enough of seeing the awesomeness that always shows up at events like the idlers Games. As we have seen over the last few days it is very much all about the passion for racing, how people approach it and what they do with their cars. It’s [...]
As Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 911, it’s not terribly surprising that they would release a special version of the car to commemorate the milestone. To celebrate the occasion, Porsche has unveiled the 911 50 Years Edition – set to debut in full at the upcoming Frankfurt International Auto Show, just as the [...]
Japan for some reason manages to do grassroots racing so much better than any country I’ve seen. It might be the incredible mix of cars, the balls-out and skilful driving, the way in which they don’t seem to give a damn about tuning and losing authenticity for the pursuit of speed. Actually, it’s especially this [...]
I want to hate Brian Henderson, I really do. In a purely ‘grass is always greener’ type-of-way, he’s living the dream. He’s living my dream at least, and many other people’s too. You see, if you live in the UK, and you’re into Volkswagen tuning, then Southern California is like some sort of holy place [...]
Classic 911s seem to be on a tuning high pitch at the moment, with the likes of Singer Vehicle Design in the States and Rauh-Welt in Japan merging old school looks with more modern ’90s chassis and bringing the appreciation of ’70s and ’80s 911s to a new generation. There’s no doubt that these teams [...]
Today Porsche took the wraps off its highly anticipated new 911 Turbo models. It’s an announcement that Porsche fans have been anxiously waiting for since the debut of the new 991 platform nearly two years ago. Based on the specs of the new 911 Turbo, the car seems to be worth the wait. It’s a [...]
I’m in love. I’ve seen this car on the internet many times. In my eyes it’s a thing of beauty. This is a car with a soul. The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 Beetle. This car is the coupe version from the early ’60s. Convertible versions were also [...]
This isn’t a story about a business and the fruits of their labour. Rather it’s the culmination of one man’s work and passion. Although in its relative infancy as a registered business, Milestone71 and head man Richie Payne, started to build its foundations many, many years ago. Watching his father repair cars in the family-owned [...]
Dazed, sleep-deprived and confused. That’s how you can sump up the demeanor of your average Speedhunter after a day covering one of the many events on our calendar. It all began abruptly at 4 am for me this morning; that irritating alarm buzzer once again interrupting my rest. There was no time for a couple [...]
I know this is a pretty bold statement, but this is probably going to be the coolest thing you see all day. Hell, if you’re a Porsche fanatic like myself, it might be the coolest car you see all month. What I’m talking about is the legendary Urban Outlaw Magnus Walker’s latest creation, the car [...]
…As do the noses and faces at the luxury end of the market. Geometric lines and stark angles battled with classic curves and swooping shapes in the nose styling and staring eyes of headlight clusters all around the Geneva Motor Show. Trekking around the halls, there was a refreshingly eclectic range of design aesthetics visible [...]
2014 will officially mark the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 going on sale, and to celebrate the milestone Porsche will be introducing the latest version of the 911 GT3. Based on the 911 chassis, the car is joining the host of other hot-blooded machines debuting this week at the Geneva Motor Show. As in [...]
No matter what school of thought you may belong to, the kyusha scene in Japan has been steadily growing in popularity over the last few years. The vastness in which vintage cars are approached in Japan is as diverse and as varied as the culture itself, no matter how you tackle your own build, it will [...]
It’s often hard to comprehend just how vast and deep automotive culture and passion spans in Japan. Last year I had the chance to help put together a program that attempted to show just this, looking at some of the biggest names out there. It was a pity it was only shown in Japan, but we all knew it wouldn’t be long before it was released online. It’s over forty minutes long so sit back and enjoy the show.
