Car Spotlight >> Scorch Racng S15

When I recently found out that the owner of this dedicated track S15 Silvia manages to lap Tsukuba in 55-sec I knew I had to dedicate a small post to this incredible car. Suzuki-san, the owner, had his time attack project built by Scorch Racing and Ennepetal with a goal of achieving the fastest possible amateur time around the small Ibaraki-ken circuit. For a privateer to achieve times dedicated tuning shops employing professional drivers would boast about, is simply mind-boggling. And the base of this project also raises some questions. Why not go for something with AWD, something that would easily deploy tons of power to the ground without much drama. After all the fastest cars around Tsukuba, the HKS CT230R, the M-Speed GT-R and the Cyber Evo are all 4WD. Suzuki-san is without a doubt a purist preferring simplicity and lightness over heavier computer controlled efficiency.

His S15 proves that you don't need to have a limitless budget, tons of carbon fiber and a successful racing career to get impressive results. All you need is passion, a pinch of ingenuity and natural ability behind the wheel. Suzuki-san is an office worker by day and during his free evenings and nights he spends time working on slowly perfecting every aspect of his Silvia.

On top of the serious diet the S15 has been put on, the engine boasts some pretty hardcore modifications. The forged and stroked bottom end is joined by an SR20VE head, which varies valve timing, duration and lift. This allows it to develop a decent amount of widely-spread torque as well as high top-end power.

A custom inlet plenum helps boost response and give an equal amount of air to each of the cylinders. The 800 cc/min injectors are fed via a custom fuel system and Reimax fuel rail.

The KKK K27 is run at a very high 2.1~2.3 bar of boost and thanks to additional tuning the engine has managed to develop an additional 50 HP bringing total power up to 681.2 HP to the wheels, with a calculated flywheel HP figure of 721.4 HP!

Pretty mean stance! Bilstein adjustable dampers were supplied by Ennepetal while wheels are Volk Racing RE30s. Now that the SR20 is developing even more power Suzuki-san will be fitting twin rear carbon canards to further help keep the car planted through the faster corners at Tsukuba.

The interior might not be pretty but it's functional. The mess of wiring is there because in the pursuit of lightness the dash and trim has been removed. You can see the tall lever that actuates the 6-speed sequential transmission and the Racepack IQ3 data logger.

Suzuki-san believes 2010 will be the year when his S15 will make it into the 54-sec, something that will no doubt have a lot of the tuning shops getting a little more worried of privateers! For more info and to follow the development of the car check out Suzuki-san's blog.

Wow! I know it's not much to look at, but it's function over form and I love it! 55 seconds is a very quick time and I hope he hits 54 this year!

2

Such an amazing car. It really gives hope to individuals trying to make it in time attack.

3

Wow Insane...I hope he puts a digicam in there while he breaks into the 54.

4

Function is beautiful in itself, form is simply a superficial facade. Absolutely amazing car.

5

time attack s-chassis

6

it feels good to see an s-chassis (privateer at that) put up times at Tsukuba that can hang with the best of em.

Spec-R>all

8

Wow, for a privateer to accomplish this.... That's amazing. Go Suzuki-san!! :D Passion can trump money, this just shows it.

9

Baddest S15 in japan.

10

I bow my head to the awesomeness that is this car and to the people behind it!

11

Simply incredible.

12

I admire this s15 the most......

13

Pure performance!

14

this guy isn't messing around.... damn

15

Dino, I hate to be anal, but intake manifolds are not designed to give "equal amount of air to each cylinder".

ITB's do that.

Great car nontheless, great driver !

16

s-chassis = win, who needs awd???

17

Thats a badass looking car. Just love it. Suzuki-san, you are the MAN!!!!

18

needs desktop version

19

Wishing all the best for this owner/driver!

All of the Time Attack series need to give him a invitation to their next events, I also love how he goes against the notion of the S-chassis as a car for drifting.

RAWEST TRACK VIDEO EVARR!!!

Absolutely awesome.

22

Whao!

That's one bad ass S15.

Tuff engine mods.

No Luxury interior for this car haha!

Looks crazy!

23

S-chassis are great becuase they can seriously do everything except mudding.

24

I think this shows the engineering that goes into the development of the parts used to build the car. For the bespoken parts great job but the off the shelf parts used are working together great. Plus a great driver...Amazing car and amazing results.

25

It's a badass car and all, but I still think he could make it look a little better.

26

One question, why run a KKK turbo? They're thrust bearing and far less responsive than a similar sized Garrett. Overpriced, too.

27

Wow... always loved that car. Big power and puposeful; thats the way to do it.

29

Damn I love this car. I'm usually not a big fan of body panels being different colors, but it somehow works pretty well on this car. Plus, I believe the fact that its producing 720hp from its SR20 helps me overlook what it lacks in visuals. And I hope Suzuki-san breaks the 54 second barrier this year. I get the feeling that Taniguchi-san and his CT230R are getting a little nervous right about now. lol

30

Whats the wheel setup? Looking like 19" to me!

Why no lexan windows in the rear? Afraid of loosing stiffness?

31

This car is all the inspiration I need for my S14 being re-built into a time attack car. Awesome!!!!

32

This car is SEX on wheels! I hope there are more updates on it. Spewing his blog is only in Japanese I'd love to read more about it! =)

33

Its a pity there isnt some more info on what hes done under the car. I'm sure there is some pretty impressive suspension mods happening. Maybe its all a bit secretive? =)

34

So fast for a home built car.. amazing.

35

Hey, that's a Hypertune intake manifold!!!! (and fuel rail BTW)

And Alex, Dino is right. It is designed to give "equal amount of air to each cylinder" ;)

This just became my favourite Time Attack machine.

36

And here I was thinking that drag racing in Japan was well and truly dead! Like most scenes that lose

Righto... well I've opened a bit of a can of worms here... it seems like while my recent FAQ post
