88 laps and 15 hours might not sound right for a 24-hour race, but combine the Nordschliefe and the horrific conditions we’ve had this weekend and it’s a miracle that many were completed… The #9 Black Falcon Mecedes-Benz SLS AMG crossed the line at 5pm to take the three-pointed star’s first win at the Nürburgring 24 Hours not just in the modern GT3 era but also in the event’s 43 year history, after a titanic battle to the flag over the second half of the event.
It was almost a Merc podium lock-out, but the #25 Marc VDS BMW Z4 absolutely hammered the final segment of the race: every time it went past me it looked totally on the edge, using every kerb, looking for every metre to make up ground. And it worked: #25 cut through two ROWE Racing SLSs and finished just two and half minutes behind the Black Falcon car as the flag dropped on the race.
Nürburgring 24 Hours 2013: result
1: #9 Black Falcon Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS 88 laps

3: #22 ROWE Racing Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS +1 lap

What an awesome weekend!! Broke the "10,000km" marker in the GT86, and had an amazing experience at the N24! Trying to get an hours rest in a (barely) waterproof tent was tough going but worth it!
The SLSs were the best sounding car on the grid by a mile (although the Astons did sound tasty too). Amazing event - another thing ticked off the bucket list. :)
Every American enthusiast should despise mercedes benz. They petitioned the government to ban grey market cars and importation. Mercedes is the reason we can't buy Alfa 155's or R32 skylines. Why do we let them make rules about what cars we can buy!?!?! Fat cars for fat old men.
That Z4 was stupid fast, he was completely on the edge when the restart happened.
So weird how there were so many cars with broken alignments though, all those shattered tie rods and stuff.
It sucks it was that short of a race but weather at the Nurburgring is as predictable as a monkey with a shotgun, it could be fun and action packed or be as dangerous as um......a monkey with a shotgun! Lol :)
Such a hard event to follow streams and only via internet, if they work. Le Mans is much better covered by the media
Great race. Watched it from the start till the red flag, and started watching 20 minutes before they restarted till the finish. A shame it's already over, could watch another day no problem.
@SuzyWallace Don't forget that crazy audi A5 that was hammering around the track too, that was awesome!
@Jochem Right there with you!
@Jochem Amen to that, it really is a special event. I hope to hop across the English channel and watch it live next year.
@Irish Ciaran Very true - did it last the race? I don't recall seeing it come across the finish line...
@Irish Ciaran You had to leave one hour before the end? : ( Damn train times!
@SuzyWallace That I couldn't tell you unfortunately, we had to leave at 4pm so one of the guys could catch a train, but it had a monstrous exhaust note! Here's hoping that it is at the next round of the VLN!
