#iamthespeedhunter: The Black & White Theme

Another month, another challenge.

We’ve already covered colour, shutter speed and aperture in previous #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER themes, but this time we want you to show us your black and white skills.

Black and white photography is often misrepresented as being colour photography without the colour. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve seen desaturated images labelled as black and white.

There’s so much more to a quality black and white conversion. Even in today’s digital world, creating your own black and white process is an art form. Balancing shadows and highlights whilst working the strength of your whites and blacks is a skill set unto itself.

With that, we’re asking you to get out there and shoot some fresh black and white photography with bonus points for 35mm film scans.

Submissions must be sent to iamthespeedhunter@dev.speedhunters.com with the subject line ‘Black & White Theme’.

Happy and safe shooting!
