Pure #joyofmachine: Jcca Photo Attack

If you go by the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, the following post should be worth about 120,000 of them. With as much raw material as I gathered at Sunday’s JCCA New Year Meeting, I’ve been struggling with how I should approach posting about this massive event. After a bit of thought, I decided I’d wrap up my coverage in fairly straightforward way – by sharing a  giant load of photos!

If anything, I thought this might be the best way to try and convey the sensory overload of the New Year Meet. As you look through the photos, don’t forget keep in mind that this is still just a tiny fraction of the overall selection of cars that gathered in Odaiba in Saturday. With enough time and bandwith I probably could have turned this into a 1,000 photo post…

Anyway.grab a beverage, sit back, and enjoy the show.

Awesome post!! Really enjoyed browsing through these, so many cool cars!

2

Incredible! Man I wish I were there!

3

I didn't want it to stop...so much fucking win above!!!! Jealous as usual for ANY post you guys do in Japan. Love the gorilla warfare style posting, pics of what we want to see with just enough info on each car to at least know what we're lusting after!

4

The Lancer has come along way over the years. And there is just not enough TVR's in the world.

5

What a post ! A lot of photos, that's what we want, big thanks man ! Now i want an wide s30...

6

Great post. As much as i like to know every detail, and i mean every detail, about a feature car, when it comes to meetings, festivals, gatherings or whatever, the more pictures the merrier, and if it is a japanese special, theres never enough pictures to see it all.
Great work, great post.

7

Photo dump ftw.

8

wauw, great photo's! my complements! Great! I would love to see more pictures from the COLT/mirage, i drive one myself and there are not many which have been modified :D

12

Awesome coverage! Would love to see more pictures of the Corona coupe (RT72). I've got one for a project car, and I'll be getting stuck into it very soon!

I don't even know where to begin... So much awesomeness. But for what it's worth, I think this type of coverage works great for shows. Perhaps you could do a 'photo assault' (as you put it)  the end of the regular features/spotlights to sum up the event? Like a place to put all the extra stuff that didn't fit into the features. Would be pretty cool.

Author21

@nielskroon I was very surprised when I saw that thing. Looked like a full-on rally car!

Author22

@Jordan_Burgess Yeah, there are certain events where this method works better than others, and I think the NYM is one of those. There are just too many amazing cars!

Author23

@Jonhjusto Yeah I figured the main theme for the New Year Meeting is "thousands of mind-blowing cars gather in Tokyo" and this would be the best way to convey that.

Author24

@danjapan13 Me too! If only G-nose kits and works parts weren't so pricey!

25

^_^ Blackbird....

Author26

@shieldsyo Yep, exactly the feel I was going for :)

Author27

@sean klingelhoefer It's my favorite event for a reason!

Author28

@Carnage Thank you!

Author29

@RicardoCosta I thought the same! If only you could have heard the sound of that thing throttling up!

30
Christian Krause

the Alpina 2002 is a beauty

31

I was planning on getting some work done today... now that is out of the question. :)

I have to say, as much as I love Japanese vintage metal, i would have spent a LOT of time around the a110s and the TVR.

Author32

@majik16106 Yeah I know what you mean. The "foreign" cars are worthy of their own show themselves. It's all too much!

33

Great gallery. I like both the straight gallery shots and the shots accompanied with some small text. So there you have it, pleased either way!

34

Amazing coverage....such a great range of cars within the Japanese scene!!!

2.5 weeks can't come quickly enough.....I'll be over there myself and I can't wait for the sites, the food, the Nostalgic 2 days event and everything else Japan has to offer.....bring it on!!!

Author35

@fabulous71 Thanks for the input :)

Author36

@Spaghetti Nice! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.

37

I like this kind of coverage, straight to the point haha

38

I like this kind of coverage, suitable for events like this

39

Love it Mike! I felt your emotion by just showing lots and lots of pics! Love the cars, love the pics, hope some day I could be there too ;)

Author41

@PedroVelado Thanks Pedro! It felt a little strange doing this, but always good to change things up a bit, right?

42

Wow, some really nice cars in there.

43

Absolutely mindblowing....

44

Oh my god this is the sickest, most inspirational collection of car photos ever. Totally epic!

45

Best. Post. EVER! :DDDD Sooo many amazing cars!

46

favorites include the BMW 2002 Alpina and the Fairlady below it.  Oh and pretty much any of the Hakosukas

47

you need to photo assault us more often!!

Author48

@azmedaj Haha. I'll do my best!

49

@nielskroon head to the gallery at malaysianrally.com. the mirage/satria is pretty much the most famous chassis here.

Author50

@NicBrown Thank you! I guess I succeeded haha.

Author51

@Larry Chen Eh, just your average parking lot you know...

Author52

@MartinBrandan Glad you enjoyed it!

Author53

@DerrickBailey Imagine what it was like to actually be there!

54

@Mike Garrett I spent 5 years in Japan while serving in the United States Navy. I never missed a Tokyo Auto Salon or an amateur drift day at Mobaru. Saturday nights at Daikoku. I really want to go back!!! I've seen so many older ladies driving around their husband's "toys". It was the best 5 years of my life!

55
speedhunters_dino

Awesome post Mike!  Great idea!

Author56

@speedhunters_dino Thanks Dino! Might have try this more often. :)

Author57

@DerrickBailey Yep! An amazing place to say the least.

58

Finally a post without speedhunters ridiculously lame commentary and self promotion. How it should be

59

love the hakosuka wagon

60

EPIC post

61

hear hear I couldn't agree more. Awesome post - beautiful Isuzu too

62

Mike, I think this is one of the best posts ever from you!!!

63

That R31 wagon! That B&W Kenmeri near the end. That Savanna above it!  That Ralliart Starion! Pretty much any of the S30s! Aaaargh.

64

Photo Assault = WIN! Great post Mike... No work will be done today! Those Hako's and Bluebird's!! :D Also, does this event only take place on the Saturday??

65

Senses overload! Great Post!

Author66

@datsunsss Sunday only actually. There's not even close to enough time to properly see everything.

Author67

@Tonioseven I guess you can't beat a huge selection of cool cars!

68

i'm an Aussie still learning about classic jap cars, and my new word for the day is Hakosuka!! loved the post mate, great mix of cars :)

Author69

@fordxyfalcon351 Thank you! Keep reading and you'll be up on the lingo in no time :)

70

Love this post, and even though I will probably get RSI from all the scrolling, please end all event coverage like this.

71

thank you for posting so many pics mike <3_<3.

almost forgot i was on speedhunters, and not auto-otaku.

72

I was scrolling down and hoping that this post would never end... so many awesome cars in here. Thank you Mike!

Author73

@Davide Prata Haha! Thanks a lot!

Author74

@SOLO8 Mike No prob. Glad you enjoyed!

Author75

@James1010 RSI is a small price to pay!

76

Sorry for my not perfect english, but, i have a question: in japan isn't forbidden to modifing cars like these? Japan people are very lucky, here, in italy, all is forbidden and it's impossible to Use a modifing car on the streets

77

Possibly one of the articles i've ever read (?) on SH. It's good to see just how varied these events are.

78

That black 930 made me ignore all the others. And I'll tell you something: that simple Porsche is a million of times better than any RWB around.

79

I am researching about shakken (car inspection) now since I will have to put my car through it soon and man, there are a lot of rules.  And, a lot of these cars seem to break them.

80

Wow, a lot well known machines there (via the interwebs). Some of those Daruma Celicas were awesome.
(This style of post is cool and I can see how you can easily run out of time).

81

OH.....MY.....GOD!!!! MIND....BLOWN!!!

82

Please stop, Mike. This is TOO much win for only one article.. I want to look through it over and over again. can't stop!

Author83

@Brian Spilner Thank you!

Author84

@roryfjohnston Yeah, all about hookups I suppose...

Author85

@jzx81 An all-star line up to say the least!

Author86

@TheShinigami My sincere apologies :)

88

@Mike Garrett  Will you be attending the 13th Hot Rod Razzle dazzle?  If so, please do the same!!

89

@Mike Garrett  @TheShinigami Thanks to you I've watched through the article once more. :) Make it stop! But seriously, these kind of articles bring inspiration and some new ideas.

90

how come on a lot of cars i see these days, in japan or in stance meets or whatever, the cars' bonnets are never properly mounted? they're always out of alignment on the back part, even if it lifts at the front. is that a style thing or is there a real reason for it, or do people just unanimously suck hard at mounting aftermarket bonnets

91

im gettin tired of skyline, celica, fairlazy, rx7, please show some love to others model, thank you

92

So cool, please more topics like this! You rocks guys!

93

S15 is just beautiful... some day she wil be mine

94

Wow, I had to take a break halfway through this post due to the overload of cool cars. Great photos!

95

Thank you so much for the Starion picture

96

98

@Mike Garrett  @TheShinigami did mitsu mirage cyborg still exist in japan?hahaa...always searchng for picture, post bout mitsu mirage in japan...hardly find one!

99

100

favorite car blog post. ever. I'd pay money for this. thank you.

101

Like auto otaku perfected... no bs. No fame-seeking posers. just cars. I wish SH was just this...

Author102

@bakayaru Thanks! Means a lot!

Author103

@qaiyimoto1988 Yeah, for some reason you don't see them much. Always living in the shadow of the Evo I suppose.

Author104

@NolanBjorn No problem! Actually, now that I think about it, that was the only Starion I recall seeing.

Author105

@KiwiMotoring That was the idea!

Author106

@TheExoDozzMRT Noted. :)

107

@ComJive They're actually not mounted incorrectly.  A lot of people tend to open their bonnets but then just leave the safety catch clicked in, which ends up being especially noticeable on front hinged cars because it looks slanted.  The bonnet is released but just not open all the way.

108

Japan Skyline and Carina Coupe are the coolest.
Also, I didnt know about Isuzu cars, other than jeeps...Very nice cars.

Author109

@greenroadster Yeah, Isuzu made some really cool stuff in '60s/'70s!

110

nice

111

Any pics of that white hard top miata next to the purple and black skyline in the picture below the AA63 Carina?

112

E P I C

113

My head just exploded - vintage car overload! Wow, so many cars in that lineup that I would absolutely kill to have!

114

@Mike Garrett  @fordxyfalcon351 thanks mate! ive been reading religiously for about a year now, and i'm learning fast :) keep up the good work!

115

@roryfjohnston just get shaken then afterwards put whatever modification you want on it, take it off for next shaken since its far away. thats what most people do

116

@K's I have thought this and you are probably right.  I do know that changing the width may just mean a different class of vehicle.  Height....the limit is 9cm.  That is nothing!  I do find it funny thinking about people bringing their cars minus all the mods to the inspection station.  Those techs MUST know what is going on.

117

@K's also, it seems that toe-in is the only thing checked as far as alignment.  so, that crazy oni camber we see is okay?! I guess so.

118

goddamn, i just would like to pick up a flight to japan and tour it just for see cars and events like these!

this kind of post are brilliant i think, i support oter "photo assauts"!

119

One of the BEST POSTS ever on Speedhunters!
Just of bunch of car lovers and their awesome cars; great job capturing this art.

120

"Joy and exhaustion"? Yes, you captured it well. Reminds me of my experience with car shows in Japan. I just took picture after picture, filling up the memory card. Love the delivery style. Simple, straightforward, yet still delivers full sensory overload.

Author121

@Censport Exactly what I was going for :)

Author122

@Aaron B Thank you!

123

I have never seen so many beautiful cars in one time before :O :D

124

There are cars in here that I will never ever see, which are cool as all hell. However, there is ONE car in this post that I could possibly get my hands on, and it's that Violet Wagon. I don't know when was the last time I saw one, years for sure, but they WERE sold in Mexico. Yet no one does anything with them as they only came in 4 door and Wagon form. I oughta try and change that.

128

Mitsubishi mirage!

129

I love the "photo assault" style!! as long as its an addition not replacing any of the other post methods!!

130

I'm disappointed cos no Celica XX desktop :(
Other than that... Japan is just awesome!
