The 24 Hours of Le Mans is on this weekend, and the #1 Audi experienced a set back in first qualifying when driver Romain Dumas T-boned the Gulf Aston Martin. The Aston, driven by Roald Goethe, had spun on the apex and was stationary on the exit of the Mulsanne corner, with Dumas' R18 TDI spearing into it in the middle of the night.

Speedhunters' Jonathan Moore is at Le Mans, so be sure to check back regularly for his coverage!

oooh.. such is life.

so brutal is le mans that it claims its victims before the race even begins.

Looks like he just followed the light.

That was bizarre. It looked to me like the Audi hit the apex and then straightened into the Aston. He may still have hit it, but not straight into the side... Strange

A little odd, I must agree with the guys from RadioLeMans (love those guys, btw) that it was avoidable. I'm not sure why the driver would not have been eyes up, seen the headlights flick around and known there was more trouble. He seemed to apex tight and then just go straight into the Aston. Granted, the actual circumstances are always more complex.

It seems like he cut the apex as closely as he could, trying to avoid the Aston on the right, and then locked his front wheels on accident which is why you see him snap onto a straight trajectory all of a sudden.

Just my 2 cents.
