Photos Of The Year 2010>> Ross I’anson Pt.ii

JDM Allstars Round 3, Walton Smith. Newcastle. A long time in the making but the Jap Performance Parts RB26 powered Subaru was competitive right out of the box.

Steve Guglielmi, Time Attack Series, Cadwell Park, United Kingdom. I was actually lying in wait for a side on shot of the Lotus airborne over the infamous Cadwell Mountain. The airborne shot never happened but with Steve grabbing another gear just before the take off I was rewarded with a nice burst of flame instead.

Anthony Pollard, Time Attack Series, Cadwell Park, United Kingdom. Cadwell is such a great place to shoot! With such a mix of tight tree-lined turns and wide open fast sweeping corners you can never get bored, especially if you're shooting cars like the iconic MG Metro 6r4.

Ben Morley, BDC Round One, Silverstone, United Kingdom. This was Ben's first ever drift event and he had unfortunately broke an anti-roll bar during practice. Unlucky for Ben, but very entertaining for spectators and photographers seeing the MKII three-wheeling on every turn.

BDC Round One, Silverstone, United Kingdom. I had envisaged the shot on the drive home from the Saturday qualifying session. 'The BDC paddock at sunrise' Easy! Just get there early and Bob's ya mother's brother! Silverstone were kind enough to leave a key under the mat for me and even the sun played ball.

Dan Chapman, JDM Allstars Round One, Manchester, United Kingdom. This photograph has already been featured within Paddy's photos of the year, Paddy's from just behind the start line and mine from crouching down behind safety guy Andy's legs. One of the great things about having two Speedhunters on site.. Multi-view images.

Stephen Brooks, BDC Round Four, Donnington, United Kingdom. The Man responsible for the awesome BDC 2010 coverage.

Honda NSX, Japfest 2010, Castle Combe, United Kingdom. Japfest 2010 had hundreds of noteworthy cars on display, but for me this race-prepped NSX really stood out.

Japfest 2010, Castle Combe, United Kingdom. 3.1 litre straight six on bodies… Ooooh the noise!.

JDM Allstars Round One, Manchester, United Kingdom. Dan's final run of the day through the final turn… Probably my best photo from the weekend.

JDM Allstars Round One, Manchester, United Kingdom. Supercharged 700+hp V8 with a nascar soundtrack … Awesome!!

BDC Round Three, Lydden Hill, United Kingdom. Lydden's high curbing never fails to produce a great shot or two.

BDC Round Three, Lydden Hill, United Kingdom. It's always a pleasure to shoot Steve and the hard charging Starlet. Now undergoing a rebuild and new livery for 2011 the mighty starlet will be back ripping it up with the best of them.

BMW 540 Touring, Somewhere in Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. Possibly the trickiest shoot of the year. Pushed for time I only had one afternoon to get it done and the British winter whipped up a lovely mix of flat light, freezing rain and wind. A few hours getting soaked and a very interesting trip down a motorway hanging out of the rear sunroof of my own E34 touring got it in the bag.

DB6 & V8 Vantage, Just outside Flitton Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. A chance to shoot one of my all time favorite cars..Well it would have been rude to turn it down.

BDC Weekender, Norfolk Arena, United Kingdom. Spitting flames from both ends.

BDC Round Two, Silverstone, United Kingdom. It was the hottest day of the year and Danny Eyles thought BDC front-man Mark Buckle needed to cool down a bit while delivering his closing words of the event.

BDC Round Two, Silverstone, United Kingdom. It's great to see Europe's most famous drift car still looking as fresh as the day it was built.

BDC Round Two, Silverstone, United Kingdom. A sign that drifting as a sport is really taking off in the UK. It was a very refreshing sight to see the hoards of people queuing up for autographs during the BDC R2 lunch break.

JDM Allstars Round Three, Newcastle,United Kingdom. Turn one of the custom built track just begged for crazy entries … Matt Steele was up there with the craziest.

JDM Allstars Round Three, Newcastle, United Kingdom. "No in turn 3 you do this." Ben Broke-Smith and Martin Ffrench discuss technique.

JDM Allstars Round Three, Newcastle, United Kingdom. After a huge accident that took out both of the Driftworks' cars, the R32 was feverishly pieced back together with parts from the stricken DW S15 so Ben could make qualifying.

BDC Final, Knockhill, Scotland. Knockhill is just stunning! Amazing views and serious action on track …

… to paraphrase Ansel Adams. Sometimes you turn up and find all the work has been done and all that is left to do is press the shutter.

BDC Final, Knockhill, Scotland. Drifting is all about the spectacle. Smoke, speed, angle and noise. The SATS Supra provides it all in droves.

JDM Allstars Round Four, Wembley, United Kingdom. Airborne action from Mr Fink.

JDM Allstars Round Four, Wembley, United Kingdom. I wanted a action shot with Wembley stadium in the background and after a fair few attempts of too static followed by too much blur I settled on this one.

JDM Allstars Round Four, Wembley, United Kingdom. You set up for a serious shot during the driver briefing and …

BDC Final, Knockhill, Scotland. Shane Lynch scrubbing off speed for the deceptively tight, final turn.

BDC Final, Knockhill, Scotland. The run that decided a championship. Danny with nothing to loose and Phil with everything. Properly down to the wire!

JDM Allstars Final, Silverstone, United Kingdom. The JDM Allstars series ended with this stunning run from Calvert and Fink.

And so ends my look back at my photos of the year. I'll be back in 2011 to bring you more drifting action from the UK and much more.

Happy new year !

Ross.
