Behind The Scenes>> Speedhunting In Dubai Pt.ii

It really feels like an eternity ago that I was in the pleasant heat of the Middle East, trying to make the most of my short stay there. Since then I managed to get stranded in Italy for a couple of days in some serious below freezing temperatures. What made this situation far, far worse was that I didn't spot even just one Italian supercar despite being only two hours from the birthplaces of Ferrari and Lamborghini. It's a funny old world where a week previous, some 2,900 miles away I just happened across this beautiful Murcielago, cooling down after what was surely a spirited drive.

The reason we were wandering the streets aimlessly was due to the inaugural UAE Drift event being postponed due to the cars not being released by customs in time. This wingless GT-R parked out back at the event ticked all the right boxes for me.

Some of you spotted this JZX90 Cressida in the original post that was also present for the event.

As someone who invests a lot of time and emotion into motorsport, it's always disappointing when you miss out on an opportunity to shoot any event. This was an especially bitter one for me though, you just need to take one look at that for a backdrop to see why.

Instead of wallowing in what could of been, we decided to make the most of our time in Dubai but exploring the city and seeing what we could dig up. This E Class Mercedes was looking quite nice on what I thought was an unusual choice of wheels.

Moving from whereeverthehellwewere we moved onto the infamous Jumeirah Beach, a spot we were assured of some exotic sightings.

Parking up in a nearby multi storey car park we spotted this abandoned Cadillac Escalade. Apparently it's a common enough sight around Dubai to find relatively expensive cars just parked up and abandoned.

You know you're onto a good thing when pretty much the first car you stumble upon is a matte white Muricelago Super Veloce.

This would hands down be my 'Lotto' win car. It's such a fantastic design that it's imminent successor has a lot to live up to.

This modified Lexus LS 460 L was one of two tuner shop demo cars prowling the beach front.

This matte gold / bronze Mercedes SL was a pretty awesome colour in the flesh.

Matte wraps were the order of the night, this yellow GT-R will surely divide opinions.

Another Murcielago hiding in the dark …

… not far from this C63 AMG.

Thanks to the lights of a passing car I could just about pick out this 996 Porsche GT2.

A 722 McLaren SLR also lay waiting in the darkness.

Even though it is probably only worth a fraction of some of the cars mentioned so far, this FN2 Civic Type R still attracted a lot of attention.

A matte grey M6 with some dish and an aftermarket bodykit.

The new Camaro looks incredible in the flesh.

Although it was slightly outclassed by this SLS directly behind it. Which would you rather, US or Euro V8 power ?

Er …

More in part three where we'll take a closer look at the Murcielago in the first image along with a trip to a local tuning shop featuring some of the largest turbo chargers I've ever seen in my life.

7

That yellow GT-R is just awesome :) !

8

Its "Could HAVE been"

Not could of been !!!!

Why everybody says that !?!

9

One word, crazy. Except for the bug.

10

hey since your in Dubai you should go to Dubai mall. once your there look for Sega Republic, there you will find Initial 4D. It was such an awesome game.

You can see a complete AE86, GC8 and an R32 for an arcade game!!! I was blowen away that day I played it.

You should also cover some arab 4x4 as I know they make over 1000 hp on those heavy nissan patrols and toyota landcruisers?

11

what day was that ?? is it last Thursday or Friday i guess i was there in the GBR in that day because i saw all these cars

u were setting in restaurant near KFC some 7 or 8 guys isnt it ???

12

I am speechless on the amount of baller cars spotted in that area so sick

13

man dubai is weird.

14

Wallpaper of the Yellow R35 GTR PLEASE!

15

Wingless GTR- tuff as

Spotlight on the Beetle please!!! hahaha

16

"Er ..." is right.

The Lamborghini's had the scene by the balls. I spent five minutes looking at the SV by itself.

17

euro v8 for sure. is that even debatable? and my favorite car has to be the racecar at the end.

18

The SLS is the most beautiful designed car I've ever seen in person...the original gullwing has an appropriate heir...

19

Largest turbochargers ever...I'm hoping it's about the mental 4x4s down there, Garrett GT55 blown TB48 Nissan Patrols put a smile on my face :)

20

GTR doesn't look bad in yellow .. painted, not wrap!

21

it´s normally in dubai jumeirah on the walk every evening. Its a paradise for the car enthusiats.

22

aaahhhh yes....every time we fill up at the pump another super car gets bought in Dubai.

23

That's not a JX90 Cressida. It's a Toyota Corona Exiv. (ST200)

24

that GTR in yellow looks aite!!!

oh and Euro V8 power for meeeee! AMG V8's sound like thunder!

25

Have to agree with the first paragraph; spent some time in italy this summer, and saw many corvettes and not a single lambo or ferrari :(

26

That's a Chaser or a Cresta not a Cressida.

27

Why dont you take the Escalade with you????? Then auction it off!!!! Make some money!!! I would!

28

I definately prefer stylish hypertuned track oriented jdm rides to all this super super cars! super cars are only a way to let everyone knows that you are rich. tuned cars are a way of life on its own. ( and I'm born, and I live in the birth place of ferrari and lamborghini )

29

Every single picture looked amazing! I especially loved that second picture - the wingless GT-R - and the slew of Murcielagos. That last picture was the best though! Haha, jk.

30

@ Cosimo : WELL SAID....

31

its* imminent successor.

it's=it is

32

i dont think thats a real gt2, just some 911 possibly? running a gt2 decklid. Notice the two pipes on the outside of the car, not two pipes in the middle. But cool post. Did you find all these lambos driving around in 1 night?!? Crazy!!

33

Nice pictures you got there ... that matte white Murice looks amazing .

hope you guys visit us soon here in Bahrain

34

Perhaps drivers/collectors in Dubai prefer the matte paints because of the paint-scratching, sand-infested winds of the middle east....

35

the black gtr it's for me

some body catche me out side he want take pic for my engine

but he said i will keep it secret ...

37

Im loving that Yellow GTR

38

Taking the wing off the GTR for looks is like putting a V6 in a Corvette for fuel economy. Yes,I'm aware that the first 2 years of the Corvette came with an inline 6 cylinder. That Bug would be cool if it had old school Japanese rims, and a drop.

39

Wow, the Red JZX90 is a Mark II.

The small orange lenses attached to the headlights were shaved(or removed) and metal added.

I know my JZX90's and thats definitely a Mark 2, the frameless windows are another sign of a Mark 2.

It's just LHD. It may be in the Middle East under a different moniker(name) than the Japanese counterpart we know but it's a Mark II, JZX90.

Now the real question is whether it's factory or aftermarket turbo.
