20 years ago Jaguar were about to win Les Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans, one lap to go. The faithful came tumbling over the fences, across the wire, down to the Armco, anticipating their heroes' arrival on to the pit straight. #3 never did cross the line as the hordes engulfed the XJR12 of the mighty John Nielsen, never mind, the victory went down in the record books, Jaguar's seventh.

The pandemonium offended the French so much that laws were passed promising grave sanctions against facteurs de trouble et aux recidivists, if there were any repeat of this behaviour. So that's me down the Swanee then.

Jaguar fans have had a long wait since 1993 and the last time a factory entry raced at La Sarthe but next week a Jaguar XKRS will take the Tricolour and start the race. The fans will be there dreaming……………..the Tifosi of the North.

So will SpeedHunters. Andy Blackmore is jumping on a plane from EA-land and I will board a P&O ferry in the morning to bring you a Car Culture at Large look at the event.

Salut!

John Brooks

I was just in the grandstand behind this..

The car in the bottom of the picture is another "art" car.. The second Kremer car, No11, was painted in art car style.. with lots of warning signs of various origin.. very colourful.. not sure who the "artist" was ..

As I recall, it was all down to a chap called Thierry Salvador.. who as listed as a driver, but never drove.. something to do with his licence or background not being up to standard for Le Mans..
