New Cars>>subaru Impreza Sti Spec C

Here's a fitting new car intro for AWD month – the Subaru Impreza STI Spec C, which has just gone on sale to the Japanese market. Like the Spec C's of the past, Subaru has equipped this limited production model with a number of changes that bring a little more edge to what's already a great driver's car.

Starting off with the chassis itself, the Spec C has added reinforcement on the front cross member, revised suspension tuning, and a new Torsen LSD in the rear. The car has also been lightened with an aluminum hood, and laminar glass for the side windows.

The Spec C's 18" wheels are not only a unique design, but apparently are lighter than the wheels that come on the standard STI. Tires are grippy Bridgestone Potenza RE070's.

The STI's 2.0 flat four (Japan market) has been outfitted with a redesigned ball bearing turbocharger, a retuned ECU, and a water sprayer for the top-mount intercooler. Power output for the Spec C is 308ps, which should provide a noticeable performance increase given the car's diet.

For those that want to stand out even more, the Spec C can even be ordered in Sunrise Yellow, seen above.

If the new Spec C strikes your fancy, make sure you get over to Japan and buy one before all 900 of them are sold out.

would have expected it to look more agressive like the older Spec C models, and why do they keep bringing these out in that hatch back style? Impreza is no longer an Impreza to me these days because of the different body style change they came out in. It will now forever be a new car (but better performance I guess) *sigh* Nice car.

Too bad the U.S. market won't see it. We've never gotten the Spec-C in the past, and probably never will. Kinda like the UK only FQ Evos.

So no change in hp/ps rating.... The current regular JDM was also 304hp/308ps... I wonder what the TQ rating is at now? Also, weren't the regular JDMs STI's using RE070's too? Good to see the Intercooler spray back on (better placement than the older models too). Weight is supposedly around 3125lbs now as well... Didn't they also change the ratios of 5th and 6th gears? The yellow one reminds me of a SPOON EG6.

bobberz, I sympathise but we "make" the UK only Evo's here, Japan and the rest of the world doesn't get them either. If the market is there, and just as importantly the capability, then a properly good establishment could make them there for Mtsubishi USA or whoever :)

Rich and Bobberz, the only reason why Japan never got the EVO FQ, is due to a 276 HP Pact, no? Think about it, why has every japanese car until 07, had only about 276 and lower hp? This was due the 276 pact. But now Japan most likely, i bet will get cars they always wanted to build. NOTICE THIS PACT IS ONLY FOR JAPANESE DOMESTIC VEHICLES.
