News>>supra Return On The Way?

Something to be taken with a decent grain of salt, but Car Magazine UK is reporting that Toyota has a team of engineers at work on a new Supra for a possible 2014 debut. The Supra would join the FT86 in Toyota's rejuvenated lineup but little else is known about the successor to one of the most famous Japanese sports cars of all time.

What would you guys like to see from a new Supra? Turbo? NA V8? Price?

Sound off below.

im sure toyota will F this up by putting a hybrid drivetrain in it or something...friggin morons destroy anything they touch...ive never seen a company so out of touch with what their consumers want/need...soooo after the 8 concept supras that come out and it goes into production ill still say the same thing ill believe it when i see it

4

Great news, hope they stick with straight six turbo though

5

If it doesn't have a bullet proof single and/or twin turbo inline 6 from the factory, we will all be disappointed.

6

Oh great, so now Toyota is going to bring us another endless string of concept cars.

7

V6 Twin Turbo. rival the R35

8

Straight 6, rwd, 320 horses, and an optional package for twin turbos in the u.s

9

3.5 Inline six turbo would be nice!

10

I think they should keep the same style motor. An inline 6 turbo engine that can be built to extreme horsepower if the owner so wishes to do so. Thats one of the many things i love about the supra. And maybe priced on par or slightly above the ft-86, i dunno though. It was a great car, and I'd be stoked to see it return if its done right.

11

Will Inline 6's ever come back? They sound nicer than V6's

12

it would be nice to see a reworked version of the 2JZ, maybe like what nissan did with the GTR in making it a high horsepower V6. Although a V8 would sound really nice and very uncharacteristic to Toyota.

13

I'd like to see a refurbished design of the 2jza80. Keep a lot of the basic appearance and don't ruin it with crappy new age body shape.

14

People have to let go of the old Supra, It would be stupid to make it anything like what people are asking for in this comments section. Because all that shit is outdated!

16

L6 will not come back because in order to have a strong block, it has to be made out of iron. Then an inline 6 takes a lot of room in the engine compartment and cannot sit as far back in the chassis as a V-shaped engine.

If the new Supra would be motorized by an L6, it would already start with 2 disadvantages : 'over'weight and weight distribution.

An inline engine also rises the problem of a limited displacement. You want to keep the volume of a specific cylinder close to 500cc, that's why there are so many 2.0L inline 4. So 3.5L is a reasonable limit for a 6 cylinder, and more cylinder awakens block rigidity issues (and no I haven't forgotten about the 1930s racers).

Its no surprised all the L6-brands are walking away from this design : Mercedes, BMW, Nissan.

17

I'd like to c something similar to what happened with the r35, except rwd, 6speed, and bullet proof like the 2jz, but there gona have to find away to keep the price under 40k that was part of the problem with the last supras, they let the price get to high.

18

Ehh, as long as it's not an hybrid it's okay, I think... maybe a twin-turbo Inline-6. I'm sick of the V6s in new cars; they sound awful.

19

Oh god this would make me sooo happy - cole i totally agree - a refurbed jza80 - same shape and shit with just an update on electronics and shizz - oh that would be amazing :D

20

This is going to take ten years

21

So why pick between turbo or V8? Turbo the V8. V6's suck.

22

bmw isn't going away from the inline 6

23

RWD, price range in the 50k-60k range, possibly using an upgraded version of the Lexus IS-F's 2UR-GSE V8, and a lighter body. Sounds good to me

24

I think that the new supra will have a NA V8 that is tuned by Yamaha like with the LFA's V10. Yes, people will be disappointed when they don't see a engine with a turbo on it but on the other hand who doesn't love a high revving V8?

25

*IF* this is true I really hope they keep it OG inline-6 style. Unless theyre looking to compete with the new GTRs in which case a TT V8 would blow minds. Fingers Crossed either way.

26

By 2014 who know what sort of engine it would have? Will it be something to rival whatever incarnation of the GTR will be around by then?

27

Will the new Supra follow the same development pattern as the FT-86? That being ten plus years of development and roman numeral prototypes, and never actually make it to production.

28

Affordable, RWD, Coupe, less than 1200kg. That's it.

29

Anything less than a new 3jz will disappoint me.

30

v6 twin turbo...

31

im sure toyota will F this up by putting a hybrid drivetrain in it or something...friggin morons destroy anything they touch...ive never seen a company so out of touch with what their consumers want/need...soooo after the 8 concept supras that come out and it goes into production ill still say the same thing ill believe it when i see it

33

id love to see an evolution of the last generation. rwd..a big powerful inline six, gorgeous to behold...just the typical awesomeness im sure they are capable of

34

Wow! thats amazing. Its been a long time coming. Alot of speculation and rumors has drifted around this for quite some time :)

Really stoked to hear that it most likely will be happening!

The Supra's should keep to their roots and just go for an inline 6 turbo. Single or twin, it doesnt really matter.

As the 2J is one of the import world's best engine, a remake and modern design of the same style engine would please quite the large market.

If its going to look half as good as the FT86, theyre definitely onto something great!

Dont let us down with this one Toyota. Big shoes to fill.

35

that is a tough call. what engines in toyota's current lineup would suit the performance minded among us. isf engine is the first thing that comes to mind. we want boost and a overbuilt motor. i dont think that toyota will do a ground up build on a new engine, especially not in two years. any suggestions?

36

twins turbo supra!!!!

beast...

37

I'm not sure if they could ever make anything better than the JZA80. But if they do it better have some resemblance.

38

YES!! The supra is a well built car for its days and when i drove it it was really fun.. But there are some aspects that needs to be changed to make it even better!

39

WELL 6 CYL ETHER V OR INLINE BUT GOT TO BE TURBO

40

Nothing new! They have to keep it the same it was before!

But i want to see some of them in the dealership here in Quebec City!

41

hopefully it will stay v6

42

Performance-tune the Toyota Tundra i-FORCE V8 and stuff it in. Revamp the exterior and interior, and sell it for 50-70k.

43

3.5 litre straight six with variable valve timing, and twin variable geometry turbochargers, coupled to a 6-speed manual 'box. And rear wheel drive, obviously...

What more could you want?!

Dan

44

All I want from a Supra is a bullet proof inline 6. And that it keep the Grand Tourer focus. If they try to make it some sort of Nissan GTR rival, lightweight nordschleife under 7 minutes car it will be just another pointless vehicle.

45

Anything other than a turbo'd inline 6 will be considered a miss in my mind. Would love to see a stripped down version come in at the $30k mark.

46

i think a biturbo 6 is proboably in the works, but probably far less capacity than a 2jz. forced induction is fast becoming a standard for efficiency, but also provides ability to deliver power, for that reson, i thin this will be toyotas choice

47

IS-F NA V8. We'll take care of the turbos ourselves.

48

20B turbo.......

49

My New Supra??? Take the Lexus LFA, replace the ultra expensive bits with components that will bring the car down to a Supra price point. Ditch the very very cool v10 for a turbo 6 that's just powerful enough to worry nissan.

new supra = detuned LFA

50

I don't really care, if it's NA guys will turbo them. Easy problem to fix. PLEASE just let it weigh less than 3000lbs!!!

51

With pollution regulation it will probably be a V6 turbo, maybe double turbo,no more. This is down sizzing. You can even suppose a V4 turbo...New Gen guy

52

Have been waiting for this for a wile now :D

And i know they are going to make it just as awsome as the lfa just in a more mecanical way ;)

53

I agree with one of the above comments. Get something to rival the R35. Twin Turbo V6 would be great, as long as they don't f this up making it some sort of "car of the future" concept shit. Make it reasonably affordable like how they used to be. Not some insane price range.

54

i thought, the supra already exist, the lexus lfa. but if that is true is great news. the engine, turbo v8 in the front, rwd, and making the step to be a super car like the gtr

55

keep it original w/ the inline 6 turbo engine w/ anywhere between 320 to 450 WHP

56

If it isn't an I6 then it won't be a Supra, period. The Corvette is defined by it's V8 and the same goes for the Supra. It needs to be something that balances luxury and sport as well, the MKIII did it perfectly. Now that Toyota sees what the Supra turned into, it better be a great daily driver as well as a formidable track car.

57

Just put the 2JZ in it! Can't do much better than the original!

58

Call me strange, but I would love to see a turbo flat 6. Add 2 cylinders to the FR-S motor and slap a twin-scroll turbo on top. Make it a 2+2 and keep it as close to 3000 pounds as possible, and it would be a winner in my book.

So, that is probably exactly what won't happen ;-)

59

it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that the hyper car market is still hot to realize toyota is missing a flagship.

60

Twin Turbo inline six or TT V6... Rear wheel drive... 6 speed manual... the same as the MKIV, it was perfect. ;)

61

tech : twin turbocharged small capacity V8. MT or DCT. LSD. FR layout. <1600kg (3500lbs) curb weight. bulletproof engine with immense tuning potential (just like the old 2JZ:) ).

design : hatch, long bonnet, comfy interior for cross continental trips. big fixed spoiler on the trunk.

2 versions : a more relaxed GT version. targets : GTR, 911 turbo, Corvette ZR1, XKR...

and a more focused (track?) version. targets : GTR V-spec, 911 GT2RS...

targets : GTR, 911 turbo, Corvette ZR1, XKR,

62

V8 and a price that is not $400,000

63

hopefully an all new v8 based on the 2zzge tech. high reving 3.6l design

64

a couple of Supra's would pull a premium a week before racewars

65

well what subaru motor will they use and tease us for about 5 years...

66

I have a feeling if Toyota goes through with this, they'll probably improve on (ie. turbo) the 2GR-FE V6 they already have in the IS350, or failing that the V8 from the IS-F.

67

I onced owned a Supra, the chances of Toyota building a car like that again that is affordable is slim to none. Cars like that only come around like that because they slipped through the cracks. Buick Grand National, GMC Cyclone/Typhoon for example. The kings have left the buildings.

68

1. An Inline 6!

2. Name it "Supra" instead of FT-HSKEKVOFDKKVSK

3. Offer two versions: One for the average person, then another with more power, less weight, etc. for the speedhunters.

69

Awesome but I wouldn't hold my breath for a twin turbo monster. The old Supra wouldn't pass current emission laws and they are only getting stricter.

Lets hope for a 4 litre six cylinder with some sort of forced induction or at least some hand me down parts from the Lexus LFA.

70

RWD, Biturbo V6 engine and a bad ass look please ;)

71

IF (and that's a big if) this comes to reality I'll be disappointed if the car isn't at least on par with the GT-R or 911 Turbo... Toyota has the means, it's a matter of putting some very mad and enthusiastic engineers working on the project.

A call to all gods: please, please, make toyota get this one right!

72

honestly i think a 3.5 or larger v6 with the option of a single turbo would be nice to start with and then you could add in the TT package after the second year of production or so, that way you'll have something to look forward to. Either that or Toyota could go all out with a small displacement v8 then have the option for a TT v8 ;)

A supercharged v8 would be nice too, although most import fan boys wont admit it.

73

3.5 liter twin turbo straight 6, after that it's all gravy. Oh, and they need to put a non-botched standard tranny in there this time. :D

74

If the FT-86 II concept says anything, its that there's nothing wrong with picking up where you left off and throwing a bunch of modern day go fast bits to build on it.

3.6 liter Inline with Direct Injection, VVTI, Varibale Intake Runner Lengths, Sequential TwinTurbo Set up on TT model. NA model should have plenty of low end torque and the powerband of the TT should be shaped viscerally with a decent amount available before 5K rpms

NO MORE V6/8's! (though a yamaha acoustics tuned V8 probably would sound pretty sexy) Nothing sounds like an inline. This is where the R35 Skyline went wrong.

75

INLINE 6 SINGLE TURBO 50,000 bux and no creature comforts power windows can suck it

76

Needs to be similar in size, have little to no luxuries, not to have 9-air bags weighing the damn thing down, I-6, turbo, and RWD. That is all.

77

4.3l v6 twin turbo aluminum block that's mounted behind the front suspension so it has 50/50 weight distribution and a rwd setup

78

It would be awesome if Toyota came out with something to compete with the 370 or even the GTR in performance and price. However, as cool as it would be let me state as clearly as possible. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

xD

79

Exactly the way it was, 2JZ and V160 6 speed, same body and interior, same everything.

80

3JZ rear wheel drive, nuff said

81

I wish car developers would stick with old school styling. FT86 is the new AE86? I don't see similarities.

82

It's no surprise Toyota is awakening old monikers... Look around, man. Mustang, Camaro, Charger, Challenger, retro is in dude.

It would totally have to be a V8, man... the base model, or as we say the "ladies" model, no offense, gets some revy v6 thingy. Man... I hope there's cup holders.

83

it died with dignity just let it rest in peace

84

I either want a GTR killer/competitor or a similar set up to the pre existing supra.

85

inline 6 turbo with a LFAish stance and style, but not to heavy.

86

I will put this in the box with the rumors of a new Silvia and RX7

87

twin turbo version of the IS300 V6.

its going to be aluminim, have direct injection, probably going to look like a mix between a 370z, genesis coupe, FR-S and 3 series bmw.

the age of overbuilt monsters is gone. if toyota listens to the fans they will build it for the aftermarket just like thw FR-S.

dont hold your breath, id wait for the next gen Z instead of a supra.

88

If Toyota does actually come through and make a new supra we will all probably be disappointed anyway. The old supra holds a special place in our hearts and minds and Toyota's engineers need to pull out all the stops and make it absolutely perfect if they ever want us to accept it. Similar to what Chevrolet did with the new camaro and how they spent considerable amounts of time styling and designing it so it appealed to the same demographic as the old camaros of the 60's. If Toyota can do all these things then I would buy one.

89

i love supra i have one lets not fuck it up !!!!!

90

Either a refurbished version of the 2JZ GTE or an LFA v10 would do for me. Or a turbocharged V6 like an VQ35DETT :)

91

I think it would suck if they used a yamaha tuned V8. Yamaha sucks, they should use a Briggs and Straton tuned i1 with non variable valve timing and no turbo.

92

rejuvinate the 2jz platform. up the displacment, bigger turbos, vvt-i and a better transmission. Now nissan just needs to go with the flow and make a new silvia already. PLEASE dont botch this one with a synergy drive train only. Make it an option though so the eco freaks will be happy. Please and thank you toyota.

93

I hope they bring back the mighty L-6, but producing the straight-6 engine block is quite costly. If ever they bring back the L-6 we're looking forward to another bomb-proof motor just like the 2JZ.

94

It would need a grenade proof engine/trans/diff. A 3.5 liter v-6 turbo or 5 liter v8 and retail for around $55K. The 2014 Mustang is going to make an expensive Supra ($70K+) a difficult proposition if the value isn't there.

95

I think the VVTL-i system from the 2zz-ge (US:Matrix XRS/ EURO:Corolla T-sport) combined with the 2jz twinturbo setup would be awesome

but the engine should be at least 3,5L inline6

96

RWD, N/A v8. with ITB's.

97

Got to factor in gas prices and such. If anything I "assume" it would have to be in between FT-86 and GT-R range. Toyota already made TWO cars to come back the GT-R (IS-F and LF-A), that would not be a smart idea to attack the same range three times. With the up coming FT-86 that is going towards Nissan's "SE-R / Nismo" line up. So it would be more smart to go for "mid range(is that the proper term)" and make something that can be affordable yet sporty like IS-F and LF-A

98

2.8 liter Turbo, 400 bhp, 1200 kg

99

the FT86 has a 2.0L N/A boxter engine from a subaru it will be under powered fail toyota, fail

100

In all honesty, Let's face it. The LF-A and GT-R are rivals. It'd be a stupid and redundant move for Toyota to make another car to compete with Nissan's flagship. The new FT-86 (or FR-S) is almost in it's own class (RWD, 4cyl sports coupe). Hopefully, its release will spur Nissan to release a new Silvia model. But what compete's against the 370z? That should be (and most likely would be) Toyota's target to rival against with any new "Supra".

Simply put, the GT-R badge has bumped up in rank, and Skyline's as we remember them are gone. The GT-R name no longer lives as an affordable sports car. Now It's a full fledged exotic. A street-legal race car so to speak. Same goes with the LF-A (which originally seemed like a new Supra concept a few years back when the original design was released). These are Japanese cars that can (finally) compete against the world's leading high-end exotics (Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, ect.). Some even still consider the LF-A as a $300k+ luxury rendition of a "New Supra", and I'd almost agree with them. But the price range is way off, and V10 engine just doesn't sound like "Supra". Sounds more like "Japanese Viper"... but I digress. The 370z may not seem like a huge target for a new Supra, but it's a realistic one. With enough engineering, Toyota could release a straight 6 that would be strong, powerful, and reliable, even with extensive modifications. Although, a V6 of similar displacement to the 370z's NA 3.7L V6 would be more of an equal rival, a well-built TT 3.4L l6 would also make for a good contender (displacement isn't too outrageous, and it would still allow for some block rigidity, while still allowing the turbo's to make up for missing displacement). This engine, coupled with an Electronically Controlled 7-speed or Manual 6-speed, could yield impressive specs (and make for a wicked ride). This layout would also welcome classic Supra styling elements (long hood, rearward cockpit, short/almost non-existent trunk).

In all honesty, the body shape should end up resting somewhere between the FT-86 and the LF-A, taking cues from both. A little more aggressive than the FT-86, yet not quite as extreme as the LF-A. I look forward to a body style that brings the name into the 21st century, but pays homage to past models.

With new models come new price tags, and unfortunately, the numbers on the tags don't usually go down. Aside from engineering and modelling, Toyota needs to focus on affordability if they wish to release a new Supra. The LF-A is nice and all, but the average middle class guy can only dream of getting his hands on one. To combat this, Toyota would need to focus on using the most cost-effective materials on the interior, in the engine bay, and on the exterior. We don't really need ultra-fine leather for our seats. We don't necessarily need an exhaust tuned by a recording studio. Maybe the cool space-age carbon fiber stuff could be offered as options, as opposed to standard equipment. Keep the cost low, and you'll see more driving off the lot.

Combine classic and modern styling elements, conscious affordability, a new TT l6 powertrain, and the immense passion Toyota has for improvement, and we'd have ourselves a winner on our hands, and a new generation of Supra we as enthusiasts would be proud to claim.

101

Maybe a re-manufactured 1GZ-FE with about 500 horsepower N/A

V12 Supra anyone? owait... *insert smoky nagata supra image here*

102

Although its not currently feasible in this economy for a low volume costly sports car, Toyota should make a mini LFA with design hints of the old one. Stick one of the V6s available in there and call it a Supra.

The engine should be a stout 4.0L V6 NA with an abundance of torque. Aftermarket can then add their small but responsive twin turbos and bam.

V6 over I6 for better weight distribution.

104

3.0l v8 that rev's to the moon would be sweet. If this happens it will have to be in the 35-40k range otherwise it would be to close to the ft86 and the isf price range.

105

SUPRA RETURN ON THE WAY?

NOT. That Subaru piece of crap Toyota is trying to huck now is nothing like a Hachiroku. Nothing! Toyota wouldn't be able to pull off a Supra successor, so I hope they don't even try. And I hope the Subaru/Scion hoopty is a failure as well. F*** crappy flat-4 sh**wagons. And it will be. Its fate is the same as the last MR-S. MR2 guys pretend it never even existed. So will RWD Toyota guys treat the FR-S. (Look, they even kept the name formular exactly the same from their failed MR-S).

Face it guys, we are locked into permanent 1974 thanks to government safety, emissions, and fuel efficiency regulations. Cars are heavy, ugliers, and lamer than their predecessors. Write your local douche politician and congratulate for turning around the dark, heinously polluted, and dangerous days of the 1990s. Oh wait...

106

Just upscale the FR-S/FT-86 into a Supra... WIth a V8 on it!

107

Not sure about a new Supra... It would be great if they can keep the same kind of iconic style with the back lights, and keep it with a straight 6. I don't think a V8 would suit the character of the Supra.

108

TEAM OF ENGINEERS AT WORK?! SOMEBODY TELL TOYOTA THEY CAN SAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND THE REST OF US AN AGONIZING TWO YEAR WAIT IF THEY JUST DUST OFF THE THE MACHINERY TO PUNCH OUT EXACT DUPLICATES OF THE CAR THEY CEASED PRODUCTION OF IN THE FIRST PLACE.

109

They should develope flexfuel cars instead of hybrids. When oil eventually runs out, our cars will run on ethanol.

110

An inline 6 turbo engine. For those who whine about weight distribution that could be fixed with rear mounted gearbox like a corvette/Volvo 343 (lol) and a lot of cooling can also be moved to the rear. such as oil coolers. and gearbox cooling.

111

They just need to just bring back the old one... no changes. Timeless.

112

"IF" it works it will be great. Otherwise it will be a great disappointment.

113

a Turbo 5.0L Straight Six, basically a NEW 2JZ!!! :D

and for around the price of a Z34 370Z.....

114

i would like to see a reworked version of the 2jz ... kinda what nissan with the RB26DETT > VR38DETT, so a V6TT with around 500bhp ... but logic would dictate that they would go for the LFA V10 , as that should have been the succesor for the Supra ... and i do get the feeling that IF they are going to make a new supra it will be under the new "F devision" that toyota/lexus wants to make famous like the M is for BMW ... 4L V8 could be an option but that would bring it more in the M3, RS4 , Merc C area and less of a JDM feeling in my opinoin ... as for looks no way its gonna look anything like the old one , maybe a few elements like the rear light that the GTR line-up has ... and at first i didnt like the looks of the R35, but in many cases with modern sportcars , it takes a while ...

would LOVE to see a new Supra , but i'l just wait until toyota confirms it

115

Restore the production..that is what we need..

116

TTGallardo v10 swapped MK4. YES.

117

I'd like to see a turbo I6 in a front-midship layout (think SLR McClaren), 6 speed, rwd, and minimum computer interference.

118

Just remake the MKIV. Don't change a thing.

119

this put a really big evil smile on my face

120

Toyota should NOT touch the engine, tranny and the diff! both the r154 and the v160 have been proven they can handel BIG HP!!! 2jz ofcourse is one crazy engine when build right, also the LSD on both the mk3 and mk4 can hold BIG HP as well, but Toyota should offer turbos in their engines I-6 or V6 even if its N/A ppl will add turbos no problem there, but Toyota should build a car that can compete with todays new sports car!

122

AS LONG AS IT'S CHEAP AND RWD I'M IN!!

123

I'd imagine they'd look to compete with the GTR. Turbo 2GR. 450hp. 3600 lbs. $80K. It cost $50K and weighed 3400 lbs almost 20 years ago, you must be smoking crack to think this'll come out on the cheap or light side.

125

1. Inline 6 Twin turbo

2. updated 1z 2jz engine

3.FR

4.Same styling.

5. Just bring back the MKIV

6. NO V8

7. Bembos

8. Trd exhuast similar to apexi worldsport or greddy sp

9.Supra Wing

10. No AWD

126

A straight six twin turbo, and it better not be badged as a scion in the U.S. like the fr-s.

127

If they bring the Supra back, which I hope to God they do, there better be a straight 6 in it! I won't buy it with anything else. Supra = straight 6

128

My vote goes for TT version of the V8 found in the IS-F. Hell, just take an ISF chassis and re purpose it with a new coupe body. Problem solved, with very little development. Common platforms are the smart mans game these days.

129

v8 and I6 turbo versions. v8 individual throttles high compression.I6 twin turbo lots of boost. 6speed with optional paddle shifter 4 seats 2 doors electronic dash nice stance on 18 maybe 19 inch wheels. dual exhaust clutch type lsd. sticky tires from factory. and priced around 60-70K. needs to be be around the same performance as corvette R8 GTR shelby mustangs. make it happen toyota!

130

What a lot of people fail to remember is that Toyota is notorious for re-animating their cars in various concepts to attract media hype & public attention. This way, we all forget that the company is run by some boring ass Japs who have forgotten their roots & have placed profitability and blandness as their primal values. I don't blame them for it. But as the saying goes, "Believe it when you see it." Btw, this is coming from a Toyota fan.

131

PLEASE MAKE IT A STRAIGHT 6 TWIN TURBO just update the 1jz 2jz motor for PLEASE MAKE IT FR !!!KEEP THE SAME STYLING DONT MAKE IT LOOK ALL WEIRD AND GAY

1.STRAIGHT 6 TWIN TURBO

2.1JZ 2 JZ MOTOR UPDATED

3. FR PLEASE!!!

4. SAME STYLING DONT CHANGE IT KEEP IT CLASSIC.

5.SAME SUPRA WING

6.BREMBOS

7.NO V8

8. NO V6

9.SINGLE EXHUASt SOMETHING TRD MAYBE GREDDY SP STYLE LOOKING BUT TRD.

10. DONT MAKE IT LOOK UGLY

132

I want the new Supra to be a diesel turbo with nitrous

133

The 1998 toyota supra RZ is my favorite car of all time but it was introduced when i was thinking about riding bikes not driving cars lol so this would be beautiful if they brought this car back but it has to be done right so my ideal New Gen Supra would be : Iron 3.2 liter Straight 6 twin turbo or aluminum 3.6 liter twin turbo v6, Six speed manual (im so tired of paddle shifters :( / 18 to 23 mpg, 415hp, estimated 3550 lb curb weight or less, styling influences from the Ft-86 & Mkiv supra, dual exhaust, LFA technology, racing inspired interior mixed with import & tuner scene designing.

Price starts at $31,000.00 Make it a competitor for the new age muscle cars (5.0, camaro SS, Challenger, ETC) the import world is losing in that battle right now i love America but i also love the excitement a Big horsepower supra can bring (Its been a long time coming)

136

Keep it original. Redesigned 2JZ with twin turbos. That's how it should be.

137

hope they dont ruin it by calling it a scion and putting a subaru boxer engine in it. oh wait.......

138

201? Toyota Supra : 2GR-FSTTE

139

be like mitsubishi.the evo is still sporty, not futuristic and dumb looking.remember that the 2jz is one of the most reliable engines ever, and if toyota puts in a hybrid,it would kill the whole meaning of a supra

3.0 or bigger INLINE SIX TWIN TURBO

320HP 2 DOOR

IF they REALLY WANT TO DO THIS, they will use a cheaper version of the LF-A's Chassis, minus all the crazy electronics, hand built engine, and aircraft styling. Engine should be coming from the chuncky LS-F with minor part uprgrades to keep wieght up-front to a minamum and a re-tune to give up more HP in the higher end

142

keep it a 6 cylinder. v6 or flat 6 with twin turbos to compete against the GT-R. use the R&D from the LFA and incorporate it in the "new Supra". keep it RWD. NO V8!!!

143

1. $70,000 - $80,000

2. Digital cluster!!!

3. V6 Twin Turbo (VVT-i) tuned by Yamaha

4. Six-Speed Transmission 6-speed rear-mounted transaxle.

5. Independent Suspension

6. 6-piston brembo calipers & Rotors

7. Carbon Fiber parts

8. low center of gravity

9. match performance w/ GTR.

10. AN AWESOME BUTTON YOU CAN PUSH THAT SAY'S "TRD MODE" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =O

144

YES, please,,,more Supra TUrbo

Thank you

I say V8. When the Supra was introduced Toyota didn't produce anyrhing with V8 power that i remember. Their technology on V8s has been tested...they can slap a turbo on one and if tye block can hold 800rwhp before breaking, it would get a xult following just like the MK4

146

People keep mentioning their ideal supra. It wont happen. period.

IT will once again be too expensive for any normal person to buy. And most people with the money wont buy a toyota.

Didnt this already happen?

I PREDICT:

1. EXPENSIVE

2. EXPENSIVE

3. LUXURY

4. EXPENSIVE

YOU GET THE IDEA.

I hope that toyota doesnt try to overreach with the supra and aim for the GTR and the ZO6. They need to set their sites at the mustang camaro, 370z, evo, sti market.

Somewhere in the 29K-40K market hopefully.

Id just kill for it to be a nice inline 6 with twins and an LSD.

147

IF a new supra comes out, i hope it doesn't change the body too much. I love the supra the way it is.

148

Twin Turbo the 2GR-FSE!!!!!!!!!!

149

I'd love to see Toyota use the tech they gathered from building the LFA, and making it more budget...high revving madness! Maybe a SLIGHT Hybrid (option) at front wheels, so it has like a skyline-ish driveline.

150

honestly i think they should keep the supra basically the same. maybe make sharper more modern lines but i hope it stays the same with an updated jz series engine but for the love of god NO PADDLE SHIFTERS!!!!!!!!!!!! keep it a 5 or 6 speed please

151

I get really pissed off when I hear reports like this, cause they have been speculating at the return of the Supra for years now. There's been 2 or 3 different concepts marked up, shoot I even drew a concept of what it could look like. All I will say is, whenever they decide to pick the rest of their slack off the ground with this thing, 1. It should be a TOYOTA. NOT a Lexus, and NOT a Scion. It's an iconic namebrand, don't kill sales for yourselves by calling it what it's not (unless you make it what it wasn't). 2. It should come with a twin-turbo inline six, since nobody seems to make inline anything anymore, it would be nice to add some diversity and nostalgia to the market. Optional NA V8 would be cool. And LSD. 3. There should be a droptop roadster option, cause the concepts they made for that looked damn nice:http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Eko5R7t_jZA/Tl2Y-tRUN9I/AAAAAAAAEMY/VZzmWqsrihI/s1600/2013%2BToyota%2BSupra%2BHyb%2B%25286%2529.jpg

And keep the targa top, that's what made the Supra a Supra. Shoot, even if they made it like the retractable full glass roof on the FT-HS concept, that would be cool. Just don't hack up another perfectly good sports car icon with dumb, out-the-box ideas. Stick to the script on things like this. And SCREW a hybrid anything, just make it good on gas. Hybrids are going to slowly ruin the auto enthusiast world from the inside out if we let the green freaks infect our sports car legends.

152

I'm going to put money on turbos being involved, small bore and longer stroke (relatively) because of emissions and CAFE limits. But I certainly hope that it will come sandbagged. I could see it being a V6 based simply from the penny-pinching manufacturers aspect of it.
