Random Snap>>star In A Ridiculously Priced Car

Looking through the archive on a hunt for Bob Wollek images. I came across this piece of history from 1998, the road going version of the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR, round the Place des Jacobins at Le Mans.

Not only that but I am getting the thumbs up sign from all round good guy and, if there is any justice in the world, 2010 Formula One Champion. It is Mark Webber, who would not know me from a bar of soap these days but back then he was about the only friendly face at AMG Mercedes. Him and Klaus Ludwig.

Happy times.

1988? And 2010 Formula One Champion?

I'm guessing I'm missing something here...

such an iconic car.. i always though the front end was ugly.. remember C&A's?? Ahh those were the days my friend.. those were the days!

5

WOW, great shot, great car! I really love that one!

OK Already. I was cooking fish and chips while writing......I have to live too.....so got the date wrong..................good to know that folks are actually paying attention...................evidence that is hard to see when viewing some posts and some comments...................crap posing as the real stuff

7

Nice one John, I won't hit you about the year, just sayin thanks for posting a shot of my all-time dream car. :):)

8

Great photo!

9

THAT is some serious piece of hardware. One of my favourite Benz' ever since. The Design is simply stunning, and I, as a roof scoop hater, do say that

10

[CAR NERD]Judging off the front bumper it's actually the single CLK-LM roadcar, currently owned by a famous collector in Japan[/CAR NERD]

Fantastic to see period stuff like this. Amazing that he'd just be out and about like that, even if it is in Le Mans.

Great website guys, really enjoying reading all the articles, keep up the good work!

11

Wallpaper please.

12

The most ugly beautiful car in the world.

13

A good one! And i hope you are right about the F1 standings after the next 3 races, Mr. Brooks!

14

best road car ever made.

seriously....

15

1988 was a typo Mercedes was campaigning the Sauber C9 back then. The CLK GTR came out in 1997. They followed up with the ill fated CLR, the car that sent Mark Webber flying in the famous Lemans practice flip photos and video.

With two flights in the Mercedes and one in the Red Bull Mark may need to apply for a pilots license!

16

"...if there is any justice in the world, 2010 Formula One Champion" - meaning he deserves to win the championship this year (which I wholeheartedly agree with).

17

i'm sure it's 1998...not 88.

18

High res version PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

19

we forgive you Brooksy!!

20

without a doubt the coolest car mercedes-benz will ever make.

lets hope webber and red bull claim the right trophies in these next races...

21

Thank you for sharing John, as always. Might this mean you're working on a Bob Wollek feature?? I look forward to it, he was always one of my favs.

22

Us Aussies are a friendly bunch, so I would like to think he would know you still.

23

does this road version do back flips like its racing variant? lol

24

MUST BE NICE!

STILLFAST

25

Nice find, John!

26

Thats the type of car you can only drive with a VERY CLOSE FRIEND.

27

Awesome Pic! I really hope Mark Webber does it this year!

28

@everyone.........sorry about the date, just goes to show the importance of proof reading. Check and check again.

@ Golf_RSR, no Wollek feature planned on SH. There is, however a book being written by Jean Marc Teissedre.................it will be 10 years in March since "Brilliant Bob" was knocked off his bike, cycling near Lareda, Florida. The sense of shock that swept the Sebring paddock the following day was extraordinary, I can still recall the minute's silence on the grid. Whenever I am fortunate to be at Sebring I go along to the roadside memorial and pay my respects.

@PDU.......yes I know about you Aussies but somehow I figure that Mark has more on his plate right now than remembering an old snapper.....but I'll still be rooting for him.

I have seen images on the MB press site of a convertible version...really wild.

OK, another treat for you supercar fans later today.

John Brooks is the best thing to happen to SpeedHunters.

31

@Tom...

Wow nice spot.. it is indeed the CLK LM road car, and not one of the CLK GTR road cars.

32

That is one heck of a car!

33

This should be CLK LM , isn't it ?

As I know , this is the ONLY road going vehicle ,

which is 24 less than CLK GTR .
