Car Spotlight>>drag S15 From Down Under

It seems a few of you may have been a little confused about our theme for this month. Although we ran some special S-chassis features to mark the dates of 1-3, 1-4, and 1-5, the S-Chassis isn't the January theme. Of course, that doesn't mean we won't feature a badass S-chassis that pops up. Case in point, this drag-tuned S15 from Australia.

While this Silvia might look like a time attack car, and is detailed enough to be a show car – it's primary focus is the quarter mile. After being inspired by the drag cars of Japan, George and Theo Spartalis of South Australia's GT Autosound set out to create one of the world's quickest S15's. Originally established as a car audio shop, GT Autosound is now known as one of Australia's premiere Silvia tuning shops and they have experience building S-chassis for every application.

Combining the build quality of pro drift car with the focus of a drag car was one of the George and Theo's goals for the car, and they've certainly accomplished that.

The engine setup is one of the most important things on a drag car, and a good place to start. The S15's 2.2 liter SR20 is built for reliability over all-out power, but still manages to produce about 650 horsepower to the wheels.

Still, even more power can be coaxed out of the car when the nitrous kit is hooked up.

The SR has been strengthened through and through with internals from some of Japan's most established companies. Outside, the fat HKS T51R turbine dominates the engine bay.

Even on a drag car, horsepower is only part of the equation. That Hurst shifter feeds into a manualized three-speed auto, and custom-drive shaft leads to a heavy duty R32 Skyline GT-R rear cradle.

The interior is full-competition spec, but unlike some race cars, everything is very neat and tidy inside.

18×9 and 18×10 Advan RS wheels cover a Strange carbon brake setup from the United States. I'm guessing a slightly different wheel and tire setup is used at the track though…

Finally a fully integrated C-West wide-body with R34 GT-R Bayside Blue paint makes the S15 look a bit like a JGTC car as it rips down the quarter mile to the tune of 9.23@148MPH (on slicks).

O_O AWESOME!!!

Drag Times?

SICK SICK SICK

5

What's the red housing above the fuel rail, is that a Nitrous manifold?

6

That's some pretty impressive stuff right there. Massive turbo!

7

Well its written right there if you check mate ;) 'it rips down the quarter mile to the tune of 9.23@148MPH'

I like it , although its a drag rig , it doesnt have those fat tyres, which in my opinion ruin the view on any JDM ride :) Really dg the colour :))

Looks like something to do with the ingition

Sick car. It's nice to see someone build a SR for drag rather than swapping in a 25 or 26. I think the confusion on the theme of the month came from you saying that the pictures people sent in of their s-chassis's would be spread throughout the month. That's what got me.

11

Red things are coilpacks, good to see an aussie car get on this site - there are some very special imports doing big things down under. check out also Keir Wilson's GT-R, and the RH9 cars from Croydon Motorsports. Seriously quick machinery.

12

The red housing is where the coil packs are sitting. And I'm pretty sure, based on other pictures I've seen in the Australian magazines, that the tyres do get changes to drag slicks when it's on the strip.

13

Hi, just thought i would let you know you made a slight mistake. Those rims are Advan RS and not Advan RG.

Cheers

Great looking S15, a lot of work done to it with an immaculate finish

16

it's a very clena and nice S15

17

Wicked car, another drag S15 the Aussies have built is one with a big power SR22VET motor, would love to see a feature on that one :)

18

As mentioned about the red boxes are MSD individual coil packs. I think they are the direct LS1 replacement coils some of you US guys may be familar with.

This car has be further developed with over 1100hp at the crank on methanol (from memory, may have been C16/Sunco).

There's a faster street Silvia in Australia, the black S14 built by Croydon Racing Developments called "DEVLSH". Has been dyno'd to over 600rwkw and has run in the 8.70's at 150(ish)MPH.

It's not as pretty as this S15 though.

Does this vehicle even exist anymore? I thought i remember being told it was parted out. Anyway there are videos on the http://www.gtautosound.com/ website.

21

coolest drag15 ever ^^,

22

Interesting of the current status of this vehicle. I think last time I saw it, it was pink... this feature was way back in 2006/2007 aswell so it has been a long time.

23

I remember reading a feature in autosalon or hpi saying that this car was jus a quick coilover swap and tune from being a circuit car. Still good to see theo represent

24

That pics not of a nitrous kit. Its just a "NItrous" branded T-piece as part of the fuel system in the trunk. The blue plastic thing next to it is the fuel cooler.

25

Awesome car though. Shame it hasnt done anything in a couple of year, was good competition for DEVLSH, which is the fastest full bodied SR20 (true) Silvia in the world.

26

Here is a clip of a car that fits this months theme ,robbies wards new rb30 race car.

27

Cool car!!!

28

I am probably going to sound stupid for not knowing why. but why is it missing a head light?

29

@ lietzkenick it's cuz of the turbo intake

I'm so glad that some guys from my home country have built a beauty like this! GO GO GREECE!

30

My Godness

that machine is just awesome

31

that thang is hot

33

Mark does some nice shots... Interior is just funny since that roll cage would not pass NHRA drag racing spec let alone FD drift spec. car is still bad ass for a street car though!
