An Early Morning At Risenation Allstars 2024

Risenation’s latest event, Allstars, marked their second major show of the year, following the 2024 Hall of Fame in March.

This time, they ventured into Maastricht, Netherlands – a location just 15 minutes from the German and Belgian borders. This made it ideal for attendees from neighbouring countries and even the UK.

If you’ve ever tried capturing clean and clear photos at a car show, you’ll know the struggle. A large crowd and tightly packed lines of cars make show photography a real challenge. Even at a venue as big as the Maastricht Exhibition & Conference Centre, it’s a problem. But there is a way around it.

The early bird catches the worm – or in this case, clean shots. With the help of some show vendors, I managed to get through the MECC doors an hour before it opened to the public. This extra time allowed me to explore Allstars before the crowds arrived.

And with around 500 cars spread across three halls, I needed every minute I could get.

The high ceilings, LED lighting, black walls, and slightly reflective floors, posed some other photography challenges. The low light created a moody atmosphere that made bright cars – like this purple Mk4 Toyota Supra and gold Toyota bB – really stand out.

Elevated display stages have become a show staple these days. However, sometimes it’s a tight fit. Case in point: the first four-door LTO BMW E36 build.

The surrounding vendor area offered intriguing finds, including a pop-up tattoo studio. The owner of a wide-bodied F430 was even getting a prancing horse immortalised on his leg.

Another highlight was the collection of skate decks featuring cars from various makes and models, both with and without iconic race liveries.

And check out this hand-painted Liberty Walk-kitted Nissan GT-R.

At their merch stand, Risenation showcased their own wide-bodied Peugeot 205. This build, with its air suspension and large forged wheels, combines retro-futuristic flair with a hint of Group B 205 T16. Some thought the car was built around a ’90s Dimma kit, but the custom bodywork was actually inspired by a Khyzyl Saleem render.

While big camber builds were once a rare sight in Europe, they’re increasingly popping up at shows. Although more about style than function, this bright red Mk4 Golf GTI exemplifies the trend. The amount of work that goes into such a build is impressive.

It’s always cool to see lesser-loved models, like this Ford Sierra, received well-deserved attention. Although overshadowed by its RS Cosworth sibling, this base model looked stunning.

Speaking of oddballs, this bright yellow C4 Chevrolet Corvette was hard to miss. Once a rarity in the European show scene, a few C4s have been built recently and are now making their rounds.

The 86 platform hasn’t been as popular here as in most other regions due to its high cost, so you rarely see high-calibre builds. This stunning example features a mix of two body kits, colour-matched carbon fibre, and detailed custom wheels.

One of my absolute favourites at Allstars was this race-themed Mk1 Golf. Its show-quality paintwork, centre-lock BBS Motorsport wheels, and intricately detailed Frankenstein engine with ITBs were impressive.

Another standout was this VW Scirocco, sitting low on 14-inch wheels. The wheels’ mesh design and beefy tyres exemplify the ‘less is more’ philosophy, resulting in a timeless look that’s hard to beat.

Though I couldn’t capture all of the 500 cars on display, I hope this glimpse into Risenation Allstars 2024 gave you a taste of what the event has to offer.

If there are any cars in the coverage that you’d like me to track down for a feature, let me know in the comments.

It's hard not to like any of these cars here

Each one is a well made build and just simply so clean

2

It's actually quite easy to not like a few of those cars to be honest. Pretty much any of the super cambered cars are hate worthy. Nothing about them is interesting.

And it's definitely making a huge stretch to say "The amount of work that goes into these 'builds' is impressive." Not in the least are they "impressive" and it's hardly a "build".

It's ok to not like something. No need to try and stretch the truth and make pretend likes about stupid cambered builds.

3

Beautifully executed across the board. I even like the onikyan-spec Golf. Some really nice creative ideas happening here and it's almost more of an art show. Practicality takes a back seat but who cares, I'm sure the owners and builders are having a lot of fun.

4

I owned a 206GTi and it was fun. Only 137 hp but at 2315 lbs it was much lighter than most hatches at that time. I imagine this 205 GTI weighing 1900 lbs would be a ball of "fire"

5

Collin,

Do you have any pics. of the gold MK1 interior? That car is fantastic! Just want to see the interior. Thanks!

6

Ive got a full shoot planned with this car, so stay tuned for more pics.

7

A very cool bunch of cars. The only thing I don't like in this whole article is the centre lock tool hanging off thew wheel on that MK1. Such a cringe thing to do at a show. People see your centre locks without the need to put the massive tool on the wheel.

8

Its a custom made cnc tool that matches some other details on the car so thats why he chooses to display it.

9

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation

10

I feel old looking at these pics and I'm 29. Don't understand the whole stance scene at all. The cars seem unusable and vaguely juvenile. The supras look cool though

11

God! 29 is old! My neighbor is 88 and has a BMW M8 Competition. Other neighbor has an A3 Audi. E46 Hardtop convert. And an MK5 R.

Low cars are cool. Those cars with cambered tires look stupid and must be hard to drive and dangerous.

12

Define useable?

13

Turning a corner faster than 20kph

Entering a parking lot that has speed bumps

Not being embarrassed to drive it somewhere

14

Perfect. 1 is doable in literally any car(tick). 2 is doable as most of these are on air(tick). 3 has nothing to do with being usable and is a you problem(tick).

15

People can do whatever they want with cars but we can also be educated enough and experienced enough to know what doesn’t work and laugh at it. Because the reality is it’s dumb and doesn’t perform.

Would you buy a million dollar home and then bull doze the kitchen and not rebuild it? If you work out in a gym you can load up on roids and destroy your health.

Yes in life people can do what they want but that doesn’t make it intelligent. We don’t have to respect stupidity. We can simply say it’s stupid. Because it is. Just like drifting. Sure it’s fun and entertaining but it’s not fast. This aint rocket science!

12 degrees of negative camber is dangerous. Slow. Dumb. Total lack of understand about basic suspension. Men are quantifiably becoming more sensitive in 2024. We used to just call garbage garbage. Now there’s group therapy sessions if anyone dares to speak their mind.

16

That’s a hell of a lotta word salad to just say you’re a hater. Sheesh!

MagneticRoadRyde

"Hater" is one of those words people use because they don't have an intelligent response or retort to a statement.

18

I have an old Volvo 240 on airride. Big wheels, lots of tire stretch. I agree with you, its a stupid thing. I doesnt make sense, it doesnt do the car justice and other people call it dumb, stupid and say I ruined my car.
But it puts a big smile on my face when I drop the car down on the ground, I think it looks sick and have driven it more on airride already than when it was my daily driver.
People are entitled to have their own opinion and are free to share it, but people also need to understand that sometimes, people do stuff for fun or just dont agree with your opinion.

19

Bro that’s a great reply. Honestly I have no disrespect for that at all. But you acknowledge reality.

When I get annoyed is when these “journalists” with no credentials in racing try to lecture me on how these things will perform on track and I’m wrong.

Anyone can do what they want in life. Just don’t piss in my pocket and tell me it’s raining. Ur a real one for this reply and I respect you. Have fun. Nothing wrong with that.

Just don’t tell me I don’t know what im talking about when it comes to performance driving / cars or that cash is gonna come out and people will be exposed. Not you directly but speaking generally. Appreciate your reply. You know what’s up and clearly aren’t a r-tard

20

You carry on like every single car that’s ever modified must race. Womp womp. Total mushroom mentality.

21

lol, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but posting under my name is truly sad. You have no credentials which is why you shouldn’t be calling out anyone else for their lack thereof.

22

Why don’t you guys just race? Would be a lot easier and a fun feature.

23

The whole deal with stance/camber is that it works in favor for all photographers looking for creative shots. I find a lot of camber cars very cool for shows and car design. I see no reason to hate on people with camber. It's sort of the same deal with bosozoku cars I find some creative while some are completely ridiculous, I still approve of the creativity that goes in to a lot of these cars. Although it is definitely not optimal for drifting so in my opinion I would hardly call a camberd Nissan GT-R with no drifting passed a drift car.

24

Was just looking for some enlightenment about this scene. Still mystified.

For example image 81, headlight delete intake for mad horsepower gains, on a car with contact patches 1/3 the size of stock?

Opening image, image 60, image 83, positive camber? why?

"They like how it looks" is the obvious reply, but these choices invite questioning. Like if a 500lb person is wearing pro cyclist team kit, or an adult wears a halloween costume in March, because "they like the look", that's unexpected behaviour. People will be curious about it, like many of us are with these cars.

The redditoid phrases almost deterred me from even typing this reply but here it is. Hope you enjoyed the event, clearly all of you guys in the show love your cars and I admire that. My apologies if I offended you with my 2 messages above.

25

Honestly, explaining why you like something is difficult. Maybe I hit my head as a kid and started pushing hotwheels hard to the ground to see them lower. Maybe its the SOWO and H2Oi videos I watched as a teen. Maybe it was the old StanceWorks forum.
Something drew me to the scene and have since enjoyed my time there. But explaining why I like something so illogical, wouldnt be able to give you a clear answer.
Regards the positive camber, I think its a bit of an optical illusion. As they are probably pretty dead on straight under the car they look positive compared to the rest of the post.

26

Beta men celebrating beta men. Yayyy we got him guys. Omgggg

28

.....aaaaaannd he's gone, lmao

29

Got 'em.

30

It’s kind of sad and I’m embarrassed for him actually. Dude needs some serious internal reflection and professional help. Imagine how miserable he must be.

31

Ya, he keeps posting under my name because he wishes he were me lol. The guy is peak cringe. The fake comments will get deleted eventually.

32

Yummy!

33

Womp womp

34

@spaghetti who hurt you??

People are also allowed to DIS-like whatever they want as well. You sound just as lame. If not, more so.
