You may have missed this dramatic crash that happened during the Pro Am drift competition in Las Vegas on Saturday. Jim Guthrie’s Mustang hit the tire barriers at high rate of speed, which caused the car to flip and eventually land on its roof. Thanks to the roll cage (built by Justin Pawlak at his shop Hot Line), Guthrie was able to emerge without major injury.

Just another reminder of the danger that lurks in motorsport and the importance of having proper safety equipment in case things go wrong.

What exactly happened? Did something fail or did he just have a late reaction in noticing there was a wall and realized it was too late for him to do anything?

from watching the video he understeered on the transition to the next turn, then he hit the brakes to stop but locked up and went straight to the wall. i had a crash like that before, then after i came across Drift Bible (this was years ago), and the drift king says to fix understeer simply pull the ebrake.

Thank goodness for tire walls and good strong cages.

Without the tire walls that would be one hell of a crash
