A Legend Passes – Carroll Shelby 1923-2012

The automotive world lost an icon when Carroll Shelby passed away yesterday evening at the age of 89 following complications from an illness. We here at Speedhunters have had the chance to work with Shelby and his company on a few different occasions and are extremely saddened to hear of his loss.

Whether it was his famous Cobras, the way he helped Ford bring the fight to Ferrari at Le Mans, or the many high performance Mustangs he’s built over the years – there are few who have contributed more to our world of cars and motorsport than Shelby did.

The man may be gone, but his accomplishments will live forever.

RIP. He was amazing at what he did - a truly clever and dedicated man. 67 GT500 Shelby Mustang is a car that would always be on my wish list.

Take care carol Shelby thanks for the memories... Mustangs: gt500, gt 350, super snake etc.; Shelby cobra, shelby Daytona, ford gt- lemans wins, etc. thanks for all of it.

It doesn't matter who you are or what you may think because Carroll was an amazing man. He started out with nothing but a bunch of chickens and a desire to race. He lied to Ford and to AC to create what may well be North Americas most infamous car. Ford rewarded him by having him develop their race cars and road cars which lead to the creation of some legendary machinery. After Ford he moved on to Chrysler and was handed a tiny little econobox of a car and turned out a miniscule monster that could compete with Porsches. He then went into business for himself and ended up suing a bunch of people over the production of kit cobras which held him until Ford called upon him once again to work his magic on the new retro styled Mustangs of today.

You never played by the book and refused to live as just a simple chicken farmer. That should be inspiring to every one. I know it is to me.

It's sad to see him go. I guess any cars with his signature just increased in value.

Rest in Peace, Mr Shelby. At least he lived his life the way he wanted to.

Out of the several years i've been following this site i've never posted until now. The man lived the dream, he built vehicles from the ground up, made factory ones faster and raced them all. It's a big loss to the car world.
