When one thinks of Group B, more often than not you think of the Audi Sport Quattro. After reading Ross’s post on the 6R4, I went on a bit of a YouTube binge where I came across this uninterrupted video of the Sport Quattro during it’s heyday. There are scenes in the video which are not only awe inspiring but genuinely terrifying to watch as the car four wheel slides between crowds of hundreds of spectators before vanishing off up the road.

Turn up your speakers, sit back and enjoy the greatest forced induction sounds ever to grace the world rally stage.

Excellent video find! Wasn't there a WOMAN behind the wheel for a majority of Audi's Group B races? I should just look it up.......

I'll hopefully be seeing one of these in action at Oulton Park in the UK at the weekend. Can not wait.

That sound is just so evocative of everyting that rally is to me.

Great days....Michelle Mouton was the woman driver, She kicked ass!!

For anybody that's interested there's also a few guys on youtube that have posted the broadcasts from some of those events. It's really cool to watch for a kind of period experience. Example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2LjhQskWl0

It's crazy to thing that these beasts was "street legal"...

6

Makes Formula D look like a walk in the park holy crap!!

7

Fantastic video! Shows the true driving skill required to pilot a Group B car down the road at a competitive pace! It amazes me that these guys and Michelle were sooo fast in a car that was little more than a ridiculous engine strapped to a tube frame. No driver aids unless you count the steering wheel and over 500HP in a lightweight AWD car... stunning!

8

word, thanks. Mouton KILLED it!

Some good group b and rally videos moor

What a car... So brilliant. But the spectators back then were suicidal.

11

Wish my ke could do that lol

I had the pleasure of seeing these and most of the other Group B monsters on the Rally of New Zealand in the early 1980's. Unbelievable!!

Walter Roehrl drives in the video, not Michelle Muton.

@Seeberg: they did sell a limited streetlegal homologation version of the "Sportquattro" with 300bhp. However, the rallycar had 450-600bhp.

@Lee: the Sport Quattro did NOT have a tubeframe, it has a conventional body.

ORGASM.

P.S.

I'm proud 1983 audi 80 quattro driver myself.... I hope one day my car will reach at least 10% of Sport quattro awesomeness.
