Desktops>> The Kdf Mangler

When I think back to 2009 there were a few new cars that really stood out from the pack like Yuta's 240Z, Matt Powers' S14 or the Little Boy Rod. These were iconic machines which imprinted themselves in the minds of the Speedhunters audience last year… So with this in mind, I'm quite excited to show you a crazy Volksrod I discovered at Bonneville Speed Week yesterday, called the "KDF Mangler".

I could be off my rocker, but I really do believe this could be one of the IT cars of 2010!… Now can anyone tell me what kind of engine is hanging off the back of this rather flattened bug?

2

3

4

it bolts straight in...................

5

It's a beetle engine.

6

The salt on the top of it is just awesome.

7

That's no Porsche or flat-6. Not even VW.

Corvair engine?

9

That is a hotted up 140hp Corvair motor with an IECO 4bbl manifold and lots of cast aluminum goodies.

10

Corvair flat 6 strange belt setup

Corvair flat 6 strange belt setup

12

Def a corvair motor, the aircool vws were 4cyl and designed completely different and its obviously not a porsche. Very cool car though, love to read more about it.

13

So rad! It's def a Corvair engine! I can't believe I'd see a car from my hometown on here! I'm pretty sure I saw this a few weeks back at a cruise in, unbelievable fab work on it if it's the same Volksrod

14

looks like a modified ej20.

16

Great shot. That bokeh is in full effect!

17

Its a chevy Corvair motor. Chevy made a torquey flat six powered car called the Corvair from 60-69. The hot later model ones were turboed.

19

DECLARATIVE STATEMENT: If you don't deliver this as a spotlight, or at least a desktop, I will start crushing hellaflush drift cars at a rate of one per hour until you deliver.

20

Corvair 140 flat 6 FTW. No VW Motor there

21

Looks like a flat six, porsche maybe....

22

DEF a six. just look at the exhaust. Pretty sure its a corvair motor

23

Webstar your right, didnt see the extra pipes

24

EJ-something?

25

my dad confirms, its a corvair engine. he has many bad memories with that sucker.

26

Corvair. But, I cheated, I saw the car in person.

27

VWs, iconic? since when?

28

I think its corvair engine, That pulley setup is REdiculus.

29

I guess it´s a Porsche Flat 6.

30

what do you mean "since when"? There has been no other car modified in as many ways as the beetle. There were more beetles sold than any other popular car and they are still to this day in high demand. If that dosn't make a car iconic then the camaor and the mustang were just blips on the automotive landscape.

31

flat 6 corvair motor

32

Definitely a flat 6 .

33

sweet jesus it's a splitty too! that means that at the very NEWEST, it's a 1953! i love this thing. rag-top + salt spray... crazy. The tail-lights are quite rad as well.

.

Awesome shot, btw, Rod! Did you use any filters for this or was the colour all done in post?

34

I just noticed the year on the number plate, 1948!

36

alannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

its a flat six engine. probably from an older porsche? maybe a 911 3.0? You can tell by the three exhaust pipes coming out of the heads on each side.
