News>>2010 Camaro Coming To Formula D

If you've noticed my lack of activity over the past couple days, that's because I've been busy relocating to my new place in beautiful Southern California. Now that I've got my office sort of set up, it's time to catch up on a few days of Speedhunting. One of the big stories this week has been the news that Conrad Grunewald will be returning to Formula D next season in a 2010 Chevy Camaro. The car is being built for a SEMA debut and Conrad will start testing soon after. The new Camaro is a big, heavy car so Conrad will be doing everything he can to trim the pounds off. Under the hood will be a variant of the LSA engine found in the new Caddy CTS V. It was only a matter of time until someone turned the Camaro into a drift car, and we can't wait to see this thing going head to head with the Falken Mustang next year in a battle of the pony cars!

For more, you can check out the detailed build story on LSXTV.com, or Conrad's official site.

3

that new camaro looks so much better with a realistically -sized wheel package. i'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!

4

All we need is a dodge challenger drift car and we could have the pony car wars Formula D style, racing with this new camaro and Vaughn Gittin's mustang.

5

totally f'in awesome!

I'm all into oldschool japcars, but the camaro is the sexiest muscle ever!

and damn it's hot too!

it's about time we see this beast going wide!

6

Im sorry but ANY USDM car drifting in my opinion looks really awkward. I dont think this will look any better than the other mustangs etc

7

i hope they don't put roller skates on it

8

What happened to Dodge's drift challenger? I know they pulled out of drifting but what happened to the car? Did it ever compete? Never finished?

Ahh As stated before I think this will be the fuel to stoke the fire and mabey get some new spectators. Nothing like a blood rivalry to liven things up. I know one thing, there WILL be a sudden surge of mullets at Formula D events in 2010

I don't understand peoples' problem with US cars in drifting. Formula D is an American drift series, and there's already a long history of American cars in FD (GTO, Solstice, Charger, Viper, El Camino, Mustang, etc.) In European drift championships, you see a lot of BMWs; Australia has at least a few Holdens--people use what is available to them, and I don't see the Germans, Swedes, Dutch, or Aussies complaining about having a non-JDM car in their series'.

I'm very surprised to see this. I slide a S13 at alot of midwest drift events and catch alot of slack form guys at work about "racing" in a foreign car. I work for General Motors (GM) and have always been a fan of chaser, silvia, soarer, and other J-Spec platforms more so than Domestics. I hope they can really shed the weight needed to make this a competitive car. Im pretty sure that was one of the main drawbacks and problems with the Charger. I have driven a few of the new Camaros both SS and nonSS variants they obviously wont have a problem with power (they will use a supercharged V8 most likely) but i am very interested in seeing how they handle the balancing and lightning of the vehicle. These are very straight line (drag) oriented cars despite the new suspension geometry. Good Luck to Corad and to everybody crying about Domestics sliding get use to it its gonna happen. I will continue to drive my caged hatch to work every once and a while and get asked why i don't race "drift" a 50,000 Camaro
