Vaughn Gittin Jr has certainly done it this time. He has unleashed the pyromaniac in all of us by making one of the coolest drift videos ever. I feel like this has been a dream of mine for a while now, but it has never come to fruition until now. It takes months of planning [...]
We’ve been covering Gatebil events on Speedhunters for about three years now (I’m sure Rod will correct me if I’m wrong) so I’m sure you’re familiar with the concept. Although not as well recognised as the Gatebil main event at Rudskogen in Norway, Gatebil at Mantorp offers the same variety of builds and action, just [...]
A project car can seem like a huge commitment sometimes. I don’t know about other people, but I definitely have those days where I look at my bank balance and think to myself, ‘What the heck am I doing?’ Perhaps there are a few other people reading this that share my feelings, but sometimes I [...]
The 2013 running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is just a couple weeks away, and as Peugeot prepares for its return the mountain with rally legend Sébastien Loeb, it’s released this video showing some pre-event testing. I have to say the 208 T16 looks great in full race livery and like many, I can’t wait to see what happens at the main event come the end of the month.
If I had to pick one image to sum up the insanity that is unfolding at Gatebil Mantorp right now, it would have to be a shot of one of the many Audi Quattros of various generations, ploughing into corners under lurid four-wheel drifts. It perfectly represents the mix of excessive power and pedal-to-the-metal driving [...]
It’s official, Gatebil Mantorp is fully under way. It’s been just under a year since I’ve attended one of these mental Scandinavian events but after only moments it was as if I had never left. Cars have been on track for only a few hours now but the carnage of man, machine and the Speedhunters [...]
In my last post I left off with Charles on cloud nine after qualifying in ninth, which put him on the front row for WTCC race two at Moscow Raceway. But as you Speedhunters can probably already tell, things did not go exactly as planned. With the opportunity to start on the front row and [...]
It was just a couple short weeks ago that I was writing about how different car shows can be. Larry and I had visited Santa Maria for the Cruisin’ Nationals, and were thrilled to see our favorite kustoms glistening under the sun. Clearly the Long Beach Motorama was different again, and in a very welcome [...]
The 2013 Autodrome Heritage Festival at the Linas-Montlhéry banked oval, located just south of the French capital city of Paris, provided rich pickings of classic cars and showed off the incredible range of shapes and approaches to car design used between the ’60s and ’80s. There were plenty of cars that are either relatively unknown [...]
A mini-bus full of Speedhunters after just a handful of hours sleep is no doubt an amusing sight to behold. The team had come together from all corners of the globe, complete with varying degrees of jetlag and consequent lack of rest. But as we stumbled out of our protective cocoon, wiping the sleep from [...]
Many months ago, I heard rumours of a new car show. One being planned here in the UK. Nothing groundbreaking about that you may think. But this was different. The people involved had a reputation for delivering events with a huge following, all teamed-up with a chaser of cool. The new show would take place [...]
I recently interviewed 10 drivers on the Formula Drift grid asking what motivates them, and one of their responses really struck a chord with me. I asked Chelsea Denofa about the five battles needed to earn a win in Formula Drift. He told me that he never thought of it that way, because it’s never [...]
Time is a strange thing. The very concept of it will continue to mystify mankind as our understanding of it seems no clearer now than it ever has been. It’s something that’s quantifiable yet somehow intangible as the saying “time flies when you’re having fun” demonstrates. But if there’s anything I can be sure of [...]
Based on the feedback from yesterday’s story about my experience at Canepa for its Cars & Coffee event, it seems you guys are rather excited by the array of magnificent cars found at this place. I can’t say I’m surprised, as there are few places that compare when it comes to experiencing raw #joyofmachine. Today [...]
We are a little over a week away from the 2013 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and for Porsche fans that means we’re also one year from that brand’s much publicized return to Le Mans. As part of the Le Mans fever that is currently sweeping the motorsport world, Porsche has released the first images of its 2014 LMP contender. They have yet to release any sort of technical specs for the car, but Porsche has made it quite to clear that they aim to win in ’14. For now, we can look over the lightly disguised prototype and imagine what’s going to happen come next June.
