Well Speedhunters, two-thousand-twelve is very nearly over and the remaining days on the calendar are few. Fortunately the Armageddon never came and my mind is already looking ahead at how to make 2013 even better, but before I can clear off my plate to focus on the new year there are still two more posts [...]
Formula Drift at Irwindale is easily the biggest event of the year on the drift calendar, and I was honoured to be invited over to join the Speedhunters team for this great event. So, for me it was direction Los Angeles for the last round of the championship. Europe now appears rather small in comparison; everything [...]
As exciting as it’s been to witness the expansion of Speedhunters this year, I couldn’t help but feeling a bit left out when it comes to the big events. Sure it was great fun to read the tales from those amazing events in Europe, but I’ve been patiently awaiting for the USA to get the full scale Speedhunters treatment this year.
There was Gatebil, there was Spa, there was Silverstone, and now there’s Irwindale. The wait is over.
Have you had to change a wheel after a puncture or simply to put on some new rubber? It’s simple enough, but when you have the pressure of a competition on your shoulders it’s completely different… When you look at drifting from the exterior of a team you have the impression that everything is cool [...]
It’s September, so that can only mean one thing. All that is great and good in the UK tuning and styling scene descends on the hallowed ground of Silverstone for the Trax show. Trax is one of the jewels in the UK show calendar. Awesome cars, plentiful public track time and of course the setting [...]
As July turns to August we put behind us what has been one of the busiest months of the year. Whether it was the madness of Gatebil, the marathon of Spa, or any other global activity the Speedhunters crew took part in – a lot went down this month. Before we attack August, here’s some [...]
The safety car is requiring as much mechanical attention as the race-cars at this years Spa 24 Hours – it’s been out on track almost as much as the GT cars. Those that survive that is: it’s been a race of attrition so far, with the weather and traffic mashing minds and cars. The rain [...]
Norway is one of my favorite places in the world to visit. The sun seems to kind of just hang there when the light is just right. The clouds are amazing and the air is so crisp and clear. It’s a photographers dream. After traveling for a grueling 20 hours I met up with Mr. [...]
Righto, well that was the month of May. It’s been quite the crazy thirty-one days which has seen the Speedhunters crew attend just under twenty events worldwide and published one hundred and fifty stories. But before we welcome aboard June 2012, we thought to take a few minutes to sift through our archive of unused [...]
There was a whole lot more going on at the Nürburgring than the fastest 30-odd GT3-spec cars battling at the front for 24 hours. In the build-up to the race there was a whole slew of events to keep the fans entertained – and that’s just as well, as at the Nürburgring 24 Hours there [...]
This year’s 40th edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours served up all the usual things: the expected unexpected. To start off with there was the entry list: more compact than normal, but with an insane spread of cars and classes who would be fighting for the same piece of narrow tarmac. There was 24 hours [...]
The Nürburgring Norschleife is a challenge for one lap, let alone 24 hours, but it’s made even tougher when the pressure is on for qualifying. WRT have released this video of on-board footage from Edward Sandström’s Top 40 qualifying lap in the WRT Audi R8 LMS Ultra on Friday, where he put the car 11th on the grid, just four seconds off pole. That’s four seconds over a 25km lap, after eight and half minutes of the most difficult track on the planet. In some shots the car looks like it’s running at double-speed: the tunnel-like, narrow, sinuous track demands a no-compromise, all-out approach – and luckily that’s how Edward drives, as you can see here. The Audi looks obscenely quick at times, despite the bumps, jumps and turns that constantly try to throw the car off line.
What an opening period for this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours! Hours before the start the officials started assembling cars on the grid: all three starting groups were crammed onto the length of the entire start-line, with the pole car right down on the sloping approach to the first turn and the third group stretching [...]
Paddy McGrath has already talked about the irresistible pull of the Nürburgring 24 Hours and how drivers, teams and fans come back to it year after year. But what’s it like for the first timer? The Nürburgring newbie? The 24-Hour ‘Ring rookie? Well, I’ll try and give you a sense of being introduced to it, this [...]
Coming up this weekend is the big one: the 2012 edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Around 600 drivers will tackle a whole day of racing around the full 25km combination of the Nürburgring Nordschleife ‘Green Hell’ and Grand Prix track at the most gruelling 24-hour event out there. The 2012 running is the 40th [...]
