Hello all Speedhunters fans out there. My fourth attempt to win the 24 Hours at the Green Hell was a real disappointment: even though we were right up amongst the front runners during whole weekend, we failed to finish. I’ll try to point out and describe why it was so difficult this time. At the [...]
Hello Speedhunters fans! It’s been a while since my last blog from the Spa 24 Hours. Well, my season has now finally come to an end. It was supposed to be over after the finale in the Blancpain Endurance Series at Navarra in Spain, but plans changed and I did two more races before the [...]
It’s a very modern world we’re living in today and technology is advancing at an alarming rate. Chances are that the device you just pulled out of your pocket to read this very post on has more computing power than the F1 paddock in the ’90s. This never ending desire for improvement is human nature [...]
The Spa 24 Hours is one of the most gruelling races on the calendar alongside the Nürburgring 24, and like the ‘Ring is held on one of the world’s legendary circuits. The Belgian WRT team won the race last year by just a lap from Edward Sandström’s BMW Z4; this year Edward switched across to [...]
The safety car is requiring as much mechanical attention as the race-cars at this years Spa 24 Hours – it’s been out on track almost as much as the GT cars. Those that survive that is: it’s been a race of attrition so far, with the weather and traffic mashing minds and cars. The rain [...]
WRT’s video crew have been hard at work again, and this is their latest clip showcasing the team’s efforts at the Blancpain Endurance Series race at Silverstone last weekend. You get to ride on-board with the WRT Audis during dry practice as they scream round Silverstone in the middle of big packs of GT3 cars, and then during the race the video gives you a great view of just what you *can’t* see from the cockpit of a GT car at speed in the wet.
Welcome to the second part of my blog from the Nürburgring 24 Hours. In this part I’ll talk through the race weekend itself, starting on the Saturday morning before the Nürburgring 24 Hours. There’s a long time to wait until the 4pm start time, but there’s still plenty to do before the race. Audi held an [...]
Hello again all Speedhunters fans! Yet again I’ve been trying to nail a 24-hour race. It isn’t easy, that’s for sure, but if I compare this year with how I felt in 2010 when I made my first attempt at the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours, experience can’t be underestimated. I hope you enjoy this summary [...]
The Nürburgring Norschleife is a challenge for one lap, let alone 24 hours, but it’s made even tougher when the pressure is on for qualifying. WRT have released this video of on-board footage from Edward Sandström’s Top 40 qualifying lap in the WRT Audi R8 LMS Ultra on Friday, where he put the car 11th on the grid, just four seconds off pole. That’s four seconds over a 25km lap, after eight and half minutes of the most difficult track on the planet. In some shots the car looks like it’s running at double-speed: the tunnel-like, narrow, sinuous track demands a no-compromise, all-out approach – and luckily that’s how Edward drives, as you can see here. The Audi looks obscenely quick at times, despite the bumps, jumps and turns that constantly try to throw the car off line.
A new season – and new surroundings. It’s been a long time since my last blog on Speedhunters, but don’t think I have been lying on the sofa since the Dubai 24 Hours back in January! I’ve been busy preparing for the start of the main racing season and also having some fun on frozen [...]
Hello Speedhunters! I hope you’ve had a good holiday season and are looking forward to the new racing year. I've just returned from the Dubai 24 hours and have written up this driver's blog of my time in the UAE. One thing new for this year is that I arrived in Dubai as the reigning [...]
Hello again Speedhunters fans. After being totally dehydrated and pushed to my limits of human endurance, I’m now back in shape and will tell you the story behind the Spa 24 hours. It takes place at most magical and lovely Grand Prix track you can find: Spa Francorchamps. The landscape is beautiful and the [...]
What’s up Speedhunters! It's me Edward, typing away on my computer again to report on my recent race in the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone. Time is as always flying and at the moment I’m visiting a sunny Sweden, but will soon pack my bags and head over to Germany. This Friday I will [...]
After a brief hiatus, the GT3 European Championship returned to Silverstone this weekend. In a close fought Race 1 today, The Team Need for Speed BMW Z4 driven by Edward Sandstrom/Abdulaziz al-Faisal finished 4th and Csaba Walter/Claudia Hurtgen finished 6th. As a treat we've uploaded some raw, unedited footage of Edward Sandström's practice lap on the new [...]
