THE PROCESS: WE CAN REBUILD HIM – THE CRASH TEST

THE PROCESS: WE CAN REBUILD HIM – THE CRASH TEST

The weekend had been going great for AMD Tuning. Just two hours previously their BTCC Golf had finished the morning race in first place. But in front of my eyes the front of this previously pristine racing car had just been reduced from a potential double winner to several large pieces after barely 100 yards [...]

V8 SUPERCARS: PIT GARAGE LIFE

V8 SUPERCARS: PIT GARAGE LIFE

As Australia’s premier championship race series, V8 Supercars has a huge following down under, and if you’ve experienced it in the flesh I’m sure you’ll know why. The category might be far removed from the production-based racing and the exclusive GM Holden versus Ford rivalry it was forged upon, but to me it’s no less [...]

V8 SUPERCARS: THUNDER IN THE PARK

V8 SUPERCARS: THUNDER IN THE PARK

For a couple of countries at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, Australia and New Zealand are pretty lucky when it comes to motorsport. Beside annual appearances from F1 and the WRC, the Australasian region is home to one of the best touring car championship series anywhere in the world. It’s called the V8 Supercars [...]

THE NEW GODZILLA?

It’s been a long wait for Nissan and even a longer wait for racing fans, but we’re getting closer and closer to finally watching the Japanese manufacturer take on Ford and Holden in their own backyard once more. With the pre-season test day taking place this Saturday, followed by the Adelaide Clipsal 500 a little under two weeks later we can finally see if the Altima will live up to the legacy of the Skyline GT-R. So what do we need right now? That’s right, a MONTAGE.

NZFMR 2013: WHERE CAN-AM MEETS GROUP A

NZFMR 2013: WHERE CAN-AM MEETS GROUP A

Since 2010, over two weekends in January the Hampton Downs Motorsport Park has played host to the New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing. A celebration of circuit racing both past and present, in its inaugural year the event recognized the achievements of New Zealand’s own Bruce McLaren. In 2011 it was Kiwi-born Ferrari works driver [...]

ONE TRILLION PICTURES LATER

ONE TRILLION PICTURES LATER

When I started writing this post I figured it would be a great to include the exact amount of photos I shot this entire year. Well I got halfway and realized that it might as well be one trillion, because that was how many it felt like I had shot. This past year was a growing year [...]

TWO THOUSAND MILES IN TWENTY FIVE HOURS

TWO THOUSAND MILES IN TWENTY FIVE HOURS

I was really excited to cover the 25 Hours Of Thunderhill, as I have heard about the race for years. It is relatively local to me (a seven-hour drive), so I figured this would be the perfect time to see what all the fuss was about. According to the guys who have been coming for years, I [...]

THROUGH MY LENS: HANGIN’ AROUND IN ASIA

THROUGH MY LENS: HANGIN’ AROUND IN ASIA

During my career I’ve mostly followed car culture in North America; I’ve only recently experienced what’s going on over in Europe and I’m pretty late to the Asian automotive scene, so this recent Asia tour was the perfect time for me to do a bit of catching up. I have always wanted to shoot wheel-to-wheel racing in [...]

DRIVING THE MEAN STREETS OF MACAU

DRIVING THE MEAN STREETS OF MACAU

Back at the ninth round of the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship at Sonoma in the USA I hooked up with professional race driver Charles Ng: I knew him from his involvement in Formula Drift, and figured he could be my guide for my first touring car race. I immediately became a fan of [...]

MACAU GRAND PRIX: THE ART OF STREET RACING

MACAU GRAND PRIX: THE ART OF STREET RACING

I’ve been to a considerable amount of races all over the world, but nothing could have prepared me for the Macau Grand Prix. The uniqueness of this street race comes from the nature of the course. To the locals it is known as Circuito da Guia. To put it lightly, this track is a little rough around the [...]

UNDERGROUND GARAGES AT THE MACAU GRAND PRIX

UNDERGROUND GARAGES AT THE MACAU GRAND PRIX

This year marks the 59th running of the Macau Grand Prix and this will be my very first year covering this historic race, so there’s lots of catching up to do. I arrived in town a few days before the race, fresh from covering Super Taikyu in Japan. As soon as I stepped off the [...]

BTCC TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION

BTCC TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION

So what do you do when times are tough? When manufacturers are pulling out left, right and centre and the international rule makers seem to be adopting a head-in-the-sand policy, pushing ahead with rules changes that by their very nature can only increase costs? You do what’s right for your teams and drivers: you go [...]

FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS: THE BTCC FINALE

Sitting in the lines of traffic on the way to the finale of the 2012 British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch, it struck me that I hadn’t been to a BTCC for race for over two years – a shocking statistic for someone who used to regular attend at least two or three rounds [...]

FIA WTCC: A WEEKEND WITH CHARLES NG

FIA WTCC: A WEEKEND WITH CHARLES NG

I have been following Charles Ng ever since I met him at Formula Drift Pro-am back in 2009. He was drifting in a mostly stock, SR20-powered S13 and he was killing it on the notoriously hard Irwindale Speedway banking. Little did I know that he was already a seasoned driver in the Asian Touring Car [...]

WORLD TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP LANDS IN SONOMA

WORLD TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP LANDS IN SONOMA

After seven years the curb-jumping cars of the FIA World Touring Car Championship land on the shores of North America. Alain Menu took the very first pole position in Sonoma with a flying last lap in his Chevrolet Cruze. Second place went to Gabriele Tarquini in a SEAT and third went to points-leader Yvan Muller, also in a [...]
