If you’re like me, then you probably can’t get enough of seeing the awesomeness that always shows up at events like the idlers Games. As we have seen over the last few days it is very much all about the passion for racing, how people approach it and what they do with their cars. It’s [...]

“Hi Freddie! How’s it going?” It was a Sunday afternoon in May, I was back in Norway preparing for the Gatebil season opener and I had just picked up a call from an unknown number. It was my Formula Drift team boss, Stephan Papadakis. He likes to be on the cutting edge of technology and [...]

After taking a look at the colorful mix of big and small cars that were hard to ignore at this years idlers Games in Tsukuba, I’m going to continue things with a second Spotlight-O-Rama, starting off with the Outer Plus with Ti Lotus Exige S. Yes yes I know, I have promised I will visit [...]

I’ve decided to kick off this first Spotlight from the idlers Games in Tsukuba with what was physically-speaking the largest car there, and probably also the biggest surprise. I mean, if you asked me to name 50 cars I thought were the best fit for an idlers Club event, I would never, ever, utter the [...]

Japan for some reason manages to do grassroots racing so much better than any country I’ve seen. It might be the incredible mix of cars, the balls-out and skilful driving, the way in which they don’t seem to give a damn about tuning and losing authenticity for the pursuit of speed. Actually, it’s especially this [...]

I’ve met a few people in my time who really don’t like travel at all. They find the removal of their familiar day-to-day touchstones to be the cause of great distress. When faced with foreign food, alien languages and unknown rules, they clam up and panic. Thankfully I’m not like this at all. I really [...]

As I touched on during yesterday’s post , being at an MSC event is an many ways like stepping into a time machine and traveling back to the era when drifting was defined by what happened on the streets and small circuits of Japan. A lot has changed since then, even here in Japan, but [...]

Tsukuba Circuit. The modest race track located in the countryside of Ibaraki Perfecture outside of Tokyo is a place of legend. All across the world Tsukuba is known as the proving ground for Japan’s tuners and as the birthplace of Time Attack. Besides all of the history that’s been made at the track, Tsukuba has [...]

When I started writing this post I figured it would be a great to include the exact amount of photos I shot this entire year. Well I got halfway and realized that it might as well be one trillion, because that was how many it felt like I had shot. This past year was a growing year [...]

As I’m sure you guys are aware, the life of a Speedhunter is like that of a pinball. We spend our time bouncing back and forth between different automotive subcultures, never staying in one area for too long. A typical month for any one of us will include pointing our cameras at everything from rusty Hot Rods to jumping rally cars. Rarely though, do two events so different fall so close together.
You’ve already some of Larry and I’s exploits at the California Hot Rod Reunion, but that eardrum blasting insanity was just half of our Speedhunting adventures last weekend. On the opposite end of Kern County from Famoso , All Star Bash was also going down at Willow Springs. Larry will be contributing his own take on the event, but for my end I’d like to focus on one of the best parts of ASB – the cars.

As each week passes, the popularity of the #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER program grows steadily. I know some of you may have little interest in social media, but #IAMTHESPEEDHUNTER goes far beyond the social networks. Blake Williamson is about to provide you with a perfect case in point of this with his complete coverage of the recent Drift Matsuri which took place in Queensland, Australia not too long ago. If you feel up to the challenge of being the Speedhunter, all the details you need are at the bottom of this post. Blake, take it away … – PMcG.

Here at Speedhunters we are always on the look out for things that stand out, be it cars, shops or individuals. The other day at Mobara I noticed a particular Silvia that just didn’t sound right. Sure, not every S15 we come across in Japan is the top of the line Spec R; there is [...]

It might not be as high profile as the D1 Grand Prix but I still hope you guys enjoyed the more grassroots Street Legal East coverage from Nikko this week. To finish up I’ve selected five of my favorite shots from the day, like Andrew Gray above getting on the power hard as he exits [...]

Each of the 46 entrants at the D1 Street Legal East in Nikko this past Sunday got three qualifying runs to show Koguchi, and the rest of the judges, if they were good enough to make it into the top 16. For those that made it through it was a scramble to get ready for [...]
