Last week Jeroen posted up a poll asking which was the favorite of the Nissan cars currently competing in the D1 Grand Prix, and I can't really say that I was surprised to find out that you guys picked Yoshinori Koguchi's 180SX as your favorite. That actually worked out pretty well for us since we had been saving Koguchi features for Nissan month. The man and his cars achieved have hero status among hardcore drifting fans, and in an era complex pro drifting, the guy from Tochigi-ken continues to keep it real. I'd say his current car is one of the finest 180's in the world without a doubt and it's built on years of experience. And now a closer look at the car built and driven by the man who is known as the king of 180SX drift style....

Nissan month is November... and as I pack up my gear for tomorrow's shoot at Buttonwillow Raceway's Super Street Superlap Battle, I just can't help but think of Ebisu Circuit, one of my favorite racetracks that I've ever experienced. Anyway, looking back through photos on one of my hard drives, I thought I'd post up a photo that I snapped in 2005. This photo was a view of the pit area at Big X, the first fusion of drifting with other extreme sports, like freestyle motorcross,...

Because it is Nissan month I thought it would be a good idea to let you choose which Nissan you think is the best car in the 2008 D1GP season. I'm not interested in which car has the most top 3 finishes or the car with the most horsepower. I just want to know which one is your personal favorite. The car in the opening picture has seen a lot of transformations and belongs to crowd favorite Ken Nomura. Of course it's my favorite car because I have driven his Street legal version for a few years...

Throughout this month I'm going to be digging through my archive of old photos and posting up some of my favorite Nissan shots from various events and track days here in Japan. First up, I wanted to look at some the Nissan Silvia and 180SX grip/time attack cars that I have seen at Tsukuba Circuit over the past several months. When it comes to time attack cars, the AWD GT-R, Evo, Impreza, and the FR S2000 and FD3S come to mind, but the S-chassis also has very large following among grip racers in Japan....

Because it is Nissan month I will be making a few random snaps with Nissans only and other Nissan related posts. First up is this S13 that Mike could have taken during one of his visits to Tsukuba or a similar race track in Japan. At first I was not sure which side of the car I would post because I'm a sucker for the rear of a car. In the end I decided to go with the front. The wheels are a set of Volk Racing CE28n, just look at the fitment in the rear, that's close to perfection right? I...

When I mentioned to my good friend Felix Tang that I'd be interested in shooting some garages and car shops that were relatively close to where I live, he mentioned that I should check out Smoothlinez , which is in San Gabriel Valley. I had never previously heard of Smoothlinez, because apparently the way they get most of their customers is from word of mouth advertising; people posting photos of their engine builds or swaps on the internet, etc. I'll admit that I don't normally check...

I was just going through some more photos from last weekend's MSC event at Nikko Circuit and realized I have some more cool stuff to post. I can't say enough how fun MSC events are to shoot. The vast number of cool-looking cars and exciting driving provides a wealth of good shooting possibilities, and even though Nikko is a small course, there are still tons of nice angles to be found all over the place. In the shot above we have the Spirant JZX100 Chaser with it's sexy shade of red paint and ZG style overfenders. We talk about JZX's all the time on Speedhunters, but this car is certainly one of the best I have ever seen......

Last weekend was a busy one for drift events around the world, and with the coming of fall, many of the international series are starting wrap up their seasons. The fifth and final round of the '08 Drift Australia series was held at Oran Park Raceway last weekend, and not only was the national title up for grabs, but a pair of invitations to the Red Bull drift event in Long Beach were on the line for the top two finishers in the season points standings. How would things down?...

Time for more some more action from last weekend's MSC Challenge event at Nikko Circuit. There is just something about these MSC events that offer the perfect balance of talented drivers and impressive cars without the drawbacks of a "pro" drifting event. MSC events are run on smaller courses meaning there are few grandstands or other amenities seen at the larger circuits. While there are many big sponsors of the series, MSC is still about the drivers first and foremost. I feel that the above photo does a good job of portraying the atmosphere of MSC. Everyone is just chilling in the gravel spectator area taking in the action while standing only about 20 feet from the track....

What is your idea of the perfect first wedding anniversary? A gourmet dinner and a walk on the beach perhaps? Maybe some soft piano music and glasses of wine? What about taking a trip to see the best grassroots drift series in Japan tearing it up on one of the world's most iconic drift courses? That is just where I found myself yesterday as I somehow convinced my wife to not only let me go out and shoot drifting on our anniversary, but also to tag along with me on the trip. I guess I am pretty lucky sometimes....

Yeah, that's right, I said it. It had to be said. I wasn't the only one who noticed it... just maybe the only one who outspoken enough to say what's really on my mind. As we watched the tandem battles in the Formula D Top 16 eliminations at Infineon Raceway this past weekend, the lead car brake checking the following car seemed like the new fad in Formula D - almost everyone was doing it. If you're not familiar with the term brake checking , it's when the lead car in a tandem...

Right now I'm sitting in Kumakubo's office, which is perched high above Ebisu's East Course, with a stunning view of the circuit's back side. However, right now I'm not too interested in taking in the view, as I'm soaking wet from shooting in the heavy rain that plagued today's D1 Street Legal event - my socks and shoes are ruined with mud and rain... my t-shirt and shorts are soaking wet, as is my designer leather wallet, and my small Canon point-and-shoot digital camera...

As you all know, Rod and I have been at Ebisu Circuit every day for the past week - it's been super fun! So I just wanted to share some photos with you from this past week... we met up with some very good friends at Ebisu. Two of my friends, Chris and Jody (from The Speed Lounge ), decided to come to Japan and visit our friends at Ebisu Circuit for their honeymoon!!! Yeah, I thought it was crazy... they just got married (in Las Vegas, the day before Formula D) and instead of going to Hawaii or...

Just uploaded a couple new desktop wallpapers for you guys. This time we have a shot a of an S13 Silvia drag car blasting down the 0-400 at the Trust Zeroyon Festival, as well as a vintage Alfa Romeo action photo from Tsukuba Circuit. Ahh, Ebisu. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm absolutely in love with this place. It's not just the cars... it's the sights and sounds... and the people at Ebisu Circuit that make this place so special. We've been here at Ebisu Circuit for the past few days, hanging out with good friends from different parts of the world (namely, Los Angeles and Athens), and of course, my close friends from Team Orange. The annual Ebisu Circuit 36 Hours Natsumatsuri (aka "Summer Drift...

As another introductory article for our focus on drifting this month, we wanted to do an overview of some of the popular drift car platforms seen around the world. It has been said that any rear wheel drive car as well as many AWD cars or even FWD cars can be "drifted" with the right amount of driver skill, but keep in mind that for this article we are focusing on the most commonly seen platforms in the grassroots/privateer scene. Also we are not dealing with pro cars here, so don't expect to see cars like the Viper and Porsche from Formula D or Kumakubo's Evo as part of this article......

At this year's Tokyo Auto Salon there was a simple looking red 180SX parked amongst the group of flashy drift cars in Drift Tengoku booth. While this car may not have received a second glance from many show goers, long time drift enthusiasts instantly knew what this car is all about. As current drift car style is seemingly getting wilder and wilder, this car was done in replication of the style seen in the early days of the Japanese drift scene when there was no D1GP or any sort of "pro" drifting for that matter......

We've been getting a pretty good response on the photos I shot at the JustDrift/Ziptied All Star Bash 4, so I thought I'd post up some more photos for everyone to check out! Here's the starting grid at the Willow Springs Balcony... it was like a Good Offset Festival , so that definitely brought a smile to my face! It's like... the paint is cool, the aggressive and low aero kits are cool, but the stance is the main thing that makes me think a car looks cool or not. It still holds true...

Everyone's been waiting for more photos from this past weekend's JustDrift/Ziptied.com AllStarBash 4 presented by Federal Tires, so here are some more for ya! I really gotta give props to the drifters and drifting fans from all over the West Coast who braved the 100+ degree heat in Southern California's Mojave Desert; it was ridiculously scorching hot - the type of heat that leaves you sunburnt and sunstroked with heat exhaustion. One thing I feel the need to mention too... even though...
